Terrorism
Summary

Philippines are composed of 7,107 islands that are rich in natural resources
and beautiful sceneries. This makes the country attractive and magnetic to tourist
that helps the country improve its economy, provide job opportunities to the
Filipinos and strengthen the relationship also to other countries. But what if the
whole Philippines would be wrapped with the situation like what the southern part of
Mindanao has. Will the country be still attractive to the tourists? Will the Filipino
people still be able to work for a living to improve the economy of the country?
It is not undeniable that the country is facing a problem in terms of peace and
discipline. Bomb attacks, kidnappings, human trafficking and murder govern some
parts of the country particularly in Mindanao specifically in the southern area.
Terrorism as what other people define it, it is already a known problem in our
country for it brings everyday horror to the people living in the area not only the
people but the whole country as a whole. What does terrorism really means?
Terrorism is defined as; Criminal acts intended or calculated to provoke a state of
terror in the general public, a group of persons or particular persons for political
purposes are in any circumstance unjustifiable, whatever the considerations of a
political, philosophical, ideological, racial, ethnic, religious or any other nature that
may be invoked to justify them.
Mindanao has been a home of some terrorist group for almost a decade it has also
been one of the challenge that the government is facing and trying to resolve. Some
of these terrorist organizations are Abu Sayyaf Group, New Peoples Army and
Jemaah Islamiyah. But after the 2007 report from the Congressional Research
Service, two more militant groups are being monitored later on: the Moro Islamic
Liberation Front (MILF) and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF). These
organizations have been fighting for years along with the other organizations
against the government resulting to uncontrollable death of innocent civilians from
Mindanao.
Recently, more than 30 Philippine commandos killed in search for top terror suspect
known as Marwan in Mamasapano these commandos were called the SAF 44 or the
Fallen 44. Dozens of commandos had entered the far-flung southern village of
Tukanalipao at dawn looking for a terror suspect, but had a misencounter with
members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, the mayor of Mamasapano town. The
whole country grieved for this tragic incident especially the families of the forty four
commandos. The government as expected did not take charge of the incident and
pointed at each other while the families as of the moment are still seeking for
justice for their loved ones who have served the country in loyalty and committed in
their chosen career.

Terrorism had been the reason why people of such place develop fear and have lost
trust from other people. Why is this happening? Why are there people doing this?
What are the reasons?
Some experts say that lack of education is the reason why terrorists have done
these things. They are not aware of their actions and only focus on their interests.
Ethno-nationalism is also one of the reason, these groups arent in favor of the
government rules that is why they wanted to form their own government and make
their own rules. Another reason is discrimination, this result to isolation and leads
into misunderstanding and revenge. Discrimination is common among the country
considering the life status and beliefs of the Filipinos that creates issues. Religion is
another reason that also leads to discrimination especially between the Islamic
group and the Christians, nowadays even people from the same religion have
issues.
