BASICS
Afamous NFL football coach described his success with four words
- "Major on the basics,as he constantly drilled the fundamentals.
After salvation, Christians follow the Lord in water baptism. It
certainly is a basic of believers and not “a Baptist doctrine.” It is a
Bible doctrine and command. Jesus had a ministry of only three
and a half years that began by being baptized in the Jordan River
by John. His last commission to His followers was to “go and make
disciples, baptizing them..." (Matthew 28:18-20). This is because
we are to be "teaching them to observe all things that He has
commanded.” Don't minimize what He has maximized and
authorized!
We are baptizing in the Gulf of Mexico this weekend. If you have
trusted Christ as Lord and Savior, | urge you to join us. You will
receive instruction and then we will go to the Gulf in the Venetian
Village area, giving a witness about Christ dying, being buried, and
raised for us and given a new identification and nature (Romans
6:47).
Citizens have the basic obligation of registering to vote and then
conscientiously casting their ballots. Next weekend will be an
opportunity to register in the Commons if you have not done so
before November's General Election. Our votes decide strategic
positions of power and will impact the future for decades to come,
including the White House and Congress. Those who are elected
will decide the appointment of Supreme Court Judges with the
composition of state and federal courts. Your vote matters because
all members of the U.S. House of Representatives are up for
election or re-election (435 in all). One-third of the U.S. Senate (34)
is up for election. Twelve state governorships will be decided. A
majority of state legislative chambers (86) and 100+ certified
statewide ballot measures in 35 states will be determined.
Don't forget that the lion's share of legislative activities is
accomplished not in Washington, D.C, but in Tallahassee.
According to the August 1 issue of Roll Call during 2015 - 2016,
state legislators have acted on 29,000 measures compared to
fewer than 200 in Washington, D.C. Christian citizens cannot afford
to “sit this one out.” “It is from the Lord that a man gets justice”
(Proverbs 29:26). Pray and trust Him and vote.
