Q.1) Is the NHDC a distributional channel? Give


reasons for your answer.
Ans) Yes, NHDC is considered a distributional channel as
for the past two decades it has been acting as a major
intermediary in the area of yarn procurement and support.
This includes all activities related to the business of
buying, stocking, marketing or otherwise controlling the
distribution of all types of yarn for the benefit of
handloom sector as well as to procure, stock distribute
and sell all types of raw materials, dyes & chemicals
needed by the handloom sector.

Q.2) Analyze the activities of the NHDC in terms of


the basic discrepancies between the production
and the consumption function.
Ans) The Handloom sector provides direct and indirect
employment to more than 30 lakh weavers who are
scattered across all parts of the country and mostly exist
in village clusters with the activities varying from village
cluster to village cluster.
In addition, through financial assistance and
implementation of various developmental schemes, they
have increased the production of handloom fabrics more
than ten folds.
