Treaty of Versailles
The main purpose of the Treaty of Versailles was to sign a consensus document to bring
peace to the region for many years. Therefore, the countries involved in the conflict send their
representatives to consent this treat. Everybody was there except Russia that was involved in their
own civil war. At the end, I believe that most of the countries were not happy with the results of this
treaty.
Lets start talking about Austria-Hungary, which was divided into different countries. These
people lost their identity and had to regroup in a different nation. Russia lost territory due to the
independence of countries on its western territory. This caused a loss in natural resources for them.
Japan and Italy felt betrayed by the countries they allied to. They will promise territories that they
never received. Their gain in territory did not compensate in the minimum with their losses in the
battle field. Not even the United States felt happy with the decisions taken by their president at the
moment. A group of politicians in Washington had a different view of Europe. Americans wanted to
stay out of the conflicts in this part of the world. As a result, the United States signed secret
agreements after the Treaty of Versailles. In my opinion Germany was the country that lost the most
in this conflict. To start, they lost territory and were forced to pay back the losses of the allies since
they were named as the main instigators of World War I. Not happy with all these, the allies forced
Germany to reduce their military forces and be controlled and supervised by the allies. This cost a
feeling of anger and resentment in the German population.
To me the big winners of this conflict were Great Britain and France who stayed in control
of their colonies in Asia, Africa and the Balkans, according to them they were going to leave these

territories once the colonized people were able to auto-govern themselves. Do you think this would
ever happen? To add, these countries stayed with a strong military force. All these factors gave them
total control over the world during this period of time.
After all stated above I believe that the Treaty of Versailles instead of satisfying the needs of
the countries in conflict only brought a feeling of resentment, betray and anger. Countries felt that
they lost more than what they had gained. In this war millions of innocent soldiers were killed with
no reason but ambition. I strongly believe that this treaty only left a path to what was going to be
what we know as the Second World War II. Not even twenty years were going to pass before
Germany installed again its military machinery and look for revenge.
