Pre-service teachers please complete this Interim Review and discuss it with your mentor teacher.
The purpose of this review is to ensure that you can accurately assess your own performance and
develop a plan for your personal development over the remaining weeks of this professional
experience.

Please provide written reflections regarding your areas of strength and areas needing
improvement:
Use the headings: Professional Knowledge, Professional Practice and Professional
Engagement.
Professional Knowledge
Areas of strength:
1.1 Reflecting on conversations with Sheridan, I believe I demonstrate a good understanding of the physical, social
and intellectual development and characteristics of students and how they may affect learning. For example, I have
worked alongside Sheridan to scaffold students learning in the classroom by allocating students particular seats. I
have also designed differentiated literacy tasks for guided reading to support and extend some students.
2.2 According to feedback from Sheridan, I organise activities into effective learning and teaching sequence. I have
structured my lessons to ensure they include a learning intention in the beginning, followed by a meaningful task and
a reflection at the end.
2.6 When I design lessons I try to incorporate as much ICT as possible. I believe implementing ICT provides
opportunities to expand learning for students.
Areas needing improvement
1.5 I would like to work on using varied strategies for differentiating teaching to meet learning needs of students.
While I differentiate literacy tasks, I would like to learn more ways in which I can extend students or alter tasks that
cater for lower students across all curriculum areas.
Professional Practice
Area of strength:
3.2, 3.3 and 3.4 With the help of Sheridan, I have developed lessons using my knowledge of student learning,
content and effective teaching strategies. These lessons use a range of resources, especially ICT (use of YouTube
videos, etc.). I also seek feedback from Sheridan in order to ensure that the lessons are as engaging as possible.
4.2 Sheridans feedback indicates that I am able to organise classroom activities and provide clear directions. I am
aware of the importance not to overload lessons and provide simple instruction. I ask students who appear not on
task or disengaged to repeat my instructions to ensure they understand my expectations.
4.3 Over the past few weeks I have worked on improving my behaviour management strategies. I am confident in
behaviour management and believe I use practical approaches and the schools policies to manage especially
challenging behaviour.
Areas needing improvement:
3.7 I would like to improve my professional engagements with parents and caregivers in the educative process.
Sheridan emails parents a minimum of once a week, however, I would like to incorporate my own reflections as well.

Professional Engagement:
Area of strength:
6.3 When creating lessons, I actively seek advice from Sheridan and discuss various options. I alter the lessons
according to her suggestions and feedback. By doing this, I improve my teaching practices.
7.3 In the mornings, there are plenty of conversations with parents. I have also sat in on parent meetings after
school, to discuss behaviour and academic concerns for children. By participating in this meeting, I am beginning to
develop my understanding in using strategies for working effectively, sensitively and confidentially with
parents/carers,

A copy of this plan should be discussed with and approved by your mentor teacher by Friday
20th May. Please forward a copy to your university liaison by Monday 23 rd May 2016.
Please provide a list of your learning goals for the remaining weeks of this professional experience
together with a brief explanation of how you plan to achieve them (hand written or typed):
In the remaining weeks, I would like to achieve some personal learning goals.
I expect to take on more responsibility in completing day-to-day tasks. For example, I would like to start creating the
homework contracts emailed to parents at the end of the week. I will start undertaking these tasks without Sheridan
asking me to do so.
- I would like to increase my awareness of every student in the class (behaviour/engagement). Sometimes I work with
a small group on the floor and become unaware of others. It has been pointed out to me that I need to be aware of all
students as they may move off task or finish the task set for them early. To improve this I would like to incorporate
some strategies that Sheridan shared with me. For example, when working in a small group, get them to
independently work on a page or section of the task, allowing me time to and check on the other students.
- I would like to improve on the quality and creativity of my lessons. Sheridan has always offered great suggestions
that have helped me give authentic meaning to lessons and tasks. However, I would like to start thinking on the same
level. In order to do this, I will think creatively, research various websites for ideas and try and incorporate crafty,
hands-on and engaging learning tasks
- Behaviour management: I am confident in my ability to manage behaviour appropriately, however, I believe there is
room for improvement. I would like to take more control of their noise level when transitioning between classes, and
lessons or outside going to their. I believe this will naturally happen as I work on becoming aware of every students
(as stated above).
- Time of lessons: Judging from observations and discussions with Sheridan, students are starting to move off task or
get lost after a certain amount of time. We have decided to cut some lesson times from 50 minutes to 30 minutes.
This means my lessons have to be engaging and meaningful to ensure they are getting the most out of the shorter
time frame. I will work alongside Sheridan in making sure the lessons are as positive as they can be.
