The document summarizes key points from psychology course chapters on human sexuality and development. It discusses two topics that were found interesting from the readings: the culture of the Sambia people in New Guinea, and evidence that sexual orientation has genetic influences. It also provides an example of adaptation-level phenomenon from the author's life. Finally, it explains how knowledge about brain development and theory of mind in kindergarteners could be applied to a future career as a teacher.

From these chapters,
describe a couple of things that you found most interesting from the readings and lecture and explain why. o I found the entire culture of Sambia of New Guinea very interesting. Although they are not okay with gay men, they socially force boys to give older men blow jobs, in order for them to become men. However, once they are married to a woman, they are no longer allowed to have sexually relations with another man. It appears very hypocritical and confuses outsiders of their expectations. o Additionally, it is interesting to know that sexual orientation has some genetic influence. This just shows that it isnt a choice and those who dont support gay rights cannot try to change homosexuals. It makes sense to me that if one identical twin is gay then there is a 50% chance the other twin is also gay. Additionally, it was interesting to learn that the more older brothers a boy has, the more likely he is to be gay, and not because of environmental influences, but rather genetic. Im curious how they studied this and even concluded that this only applies to right handed males. provide an example or anecdote from your own life that illustrates a concept covered in these chapters. o My best friends father was hit by a car and paralyzed by the waste down. Youd think that this would ruin his life forever, especially because how active he was prior to the accident, but he seems to be happy once again. According to the adaptation level phenomenon, he seems to have returned to his natural happiness state. He has adapted to this new life style and has learned to think past his disability. describe how you might use information learned in the future or, alternatively, apply information learned to current events in the news. o I am interested in becoming a Kindergarten teacher so it is important that I understand the development of the brain. It will be vital to understand that children that age lack theory of mind and are very self-centered. They will have trouble understanding why it is important to share and be nice to others because they are egocentric; they cant grasp the concept that others think and feel differently from them. Additionally, I cannot get frustrated if the kids have trouble with counting. They lack conservation and thus have trouble understanding how quantities can remain the same despite different appearance Note you do not have to answer these questions for each chapter, but rather choose information from any of these chapters.
