Welcome to the Navori QL User Manual

Navori QL User Manual covers the use of the QL Manager application and includes all user configuration
options for QL Server and QL Player.
QL SERVER
QL Server is a back-end application that manages communication, data storage and reporting for your
Navori digital signage network. This application has no user accessible interface. It is the heart of the
Navori system that operates in background on any local or remote PC.
QL Server is available in two versions. SAAS and self-hosted.
SAAS (software-as-a-service) is a version that is hosted on Navori's own servers. Customers
download and install Navori QL Player on their own hardware but there is no Server application to
install. Instead, users login using accounts provided by Navori SA to manage their Players.
Advantages are: ease of deployment and lower up-front deployment costs.
In the self-hosted model, customers purchase, download and install Navori QL Server on their own
hardware. Advantages are: complete control of their entire network and no monthly access fees.
Unless specifically indicated, all information in this manual applies to both types of installations.
QL MANAGER
QL Manager is the front-end application that users launch to perform all administrative duties.
This application is web-based and is compatible with most popular web browsers and operating
systems. Through Navori QL Manager, users may manage all aspects of their digital signage network.
Users can upload, create and schedule content. Users may also create and manage other accounts
according to their assigned rights.
QL PLAYER WINDOWS
QL Player Windows is the playback application that displays your scheduled content on any Microsoft
Windows equipped PC.
This application is in constant communication with the Navori QL Server, updating its status,
performing updates and managing all on screen activity.
QL PLAYER ANDROID
QL Player Android is the playback application that displays your scheduled content on any compatible
Android device.
This application is in constant communication with the Navori QL Server, updating its status,
performing updates and managing all on screen activity.

Android users: Important update
Please contact Navori Support if you require assistance with upgrading your Android Players.
QL Server / Manager:
New features:
New monitoring interface designed to simplify DS operations for large Player networks. The QL Server
Administrator can create and store predefined queries that users can call up to get a quick view of their
network's status: Dynamic period, download status, Player status, screen status and software version.
Number of players displayed. Sender now shows the users first and last name instead of the user login
name.
User rights, Playlist Window: Read only rights can be assigned now. A new Playlist tab has been created
in the User Rights Management.
Location specific content can now handle up to 25 items (was previously 8 items).
USB program update: Requires an add-on module.
User can now perform two types of updates:
1. Admin updates can be performed using an additional application (USB Update.exe). This application is
only compatible with QL Player 1.0.0.28 Windows version. Content, program, Server feeds and QL Player
software update are all supported. This add-on module must be launched with UAC disabled or using the
right mouse click > Open > Administrator.
2. Data feed user can update server feeds exclusively through the QL Manager UI. Server feed profile:
Menu, USB Zip will trigger the download of a Zip file to copy on the USB drive's root.
Server feed profile interface: Display all and options buttons removed from the interface.
Scalability:
QL Manager is now certified for 50.000 Players. The layout, web service and database access has been
totally revamped so a large number of players can be displayed in less than 2 seconds.
Highly complex program grids:
A new communication method for QL Player Windows MTOM (ds web.config) has been implemented which
enables profile instruction file downloads that are 5 times larger than with the previous method. QL Player
can now download and store more than a year of complex programming.
Bug Fixes:
QL Manager: In some circumstances, templates would fail to save.
Content and Playlist option: Revised. The application now shows details about the latest user who
modified the object.
Categories listed in Player properties are now common to multiple users who belong to the same
domain.

Whenever a RSS/XML feed previously loaded is no longer accessible and if the feed refresh interval if
over, QL Player will keep the current feed in memory and display it until the PC Player reboots ensuring
data is always displayed.
Some feeds were not displayed when data included fields with multiple spaces between words. This
issue has been corrected.
QL Player update patch file size may in some circumstances grow indefinitely on QL Player. This issue
has been corrected.
QL Player may crash on complex template playback that includes multiple Flash content and content
with many validity periods. This crash happened randomly, once each five days on 15% of Pc Players. This

the application. Navori implemented the catch and graph + window destruction.
Flash Playback issue: Conflict between instructions deleted Flash Player and setMedia in FlashController.
This issue has been corrected.
QL Player Android:
Important Bug Fixes:
Low quality Wi-Fi Connections: If there is no Internet connection present at boot-up or if the device's time
and date is not set, QL Engine will launch and display the default content with a Network connection failure
icon. As soon as the connection to QL Server is restored, QL Engine will automatically resume its
scheduled playback. In previous versions, QL Engine would have stayed at the desktop until the next
restart.
Watchdog QL Engine: The method we use to confirm the Conductor service is up and running has
changed. The Conductor service always re-launches QL Engine whether it has been manually stopped or
not, except if the user clicks on an invisible part of the screen (from top left, X=, Y=) in a 100 pixel square
area located in the top left portion of the screen.

Watchdog on Wi-Fi: Upon launching QL Player, the application will reset the Wi-Fi or LAN connection, but
only if QL Server is not accessible or if the there is no access to the Internet. If there is no connection, the
Conductor service will attempt to reset the Android device's LAN connection only if a LAN adapter is
detected. In this case, QL Player will retry to connect every 15 minutes.
Playlist content ranking when merging schedules were not displayed in the proper order. This issue has
been corrected.
If QL Player can't retrieve NPK upon Conductor service launch, it will no longer crash.
QL Engine would shut down on specific system events such as USB device or HDMI
connection/disconnection. The Conductor service now prevents the system from shutting down the QL
engine.
During URL content playback, media will skip if a 404 Error is detected.

New Features:
Full support for the Media RSS standard

QL now supports Media RSS which is the standard used by most major content providers.
Beginning with this release, QL users can integrate live Media RSS content purchased online from
third party providers using QL Designer. Weather forecasts, traffic information, news with images,
financial and sports oriented content can all be played in QL.
QL can display two types of feeds:
o Media RSS: This content is created and controlled by the provider. It is embedded in the
RSS feed. Integrating this content in a QL template only takes few minutes; this is the
simplest method.
o XML content with graphics links that users can integrate in their own designs with QL
Manager (for example, weather forecast icons). This option will be especially useful for
content creation professionals.
Note: The software automatically resizes media graphics according to QL Players playback
resolution.
Full support for html5 content (hosted on a web server or download and play)
HTML5 animation files must first be zipped and then uploaded using QL Manager.
QL Server will generate a thumbnail and will list all html files available in the root folder
All associated files are sent to QL Player for play-out.
Content interactivity respected.
New HTML playback engine (IE 10 Active-X on Windows) improves content rendering and
transitions. The Active-X limitations in previous QL versions have been bypassed.
Font sub-families are now supported in QL Designer.
Datafeed transposition is now supported in QL Designer. You can display within a single template
records from multiple feeds simultaneously without the use of a data grid.
User interface improvements in QL Manager, especially when using data feeds or text fields.
The QL Manager interface is now available in Chinese.
QL Player Android:
Template rendering with all the features of our QL Player Windows are now supported by QL
Player Android, including: automatic layout resize, xml and Media RSS support, multi-feed support,
datagrids, media and playlist zones, template images and more...

with content will have no access to the Android desktop.

A conductor setting (QL Player lockdown) must be activated manually for this feature.
Ethernet LAN proxy with authentication is now supported through third party software.
QL Stix 2400:
Image quality improvements: Navori implemented a proprietary color balance and brightness
algorithm which improves the quality of displayed content on the Android platform.
This proprietary code is embedded in the QL Player software and allows the contents color and
brightness to be displayed with the same quality level and finesse than in the Windows.
Watchdog improvements:
o Watchdog now checks to see if Wi-Fi is enabled (if not, QL enables this functionality)
o Watchdog checks to see if an Ethernet adaptor is connected to the device. If so, QL
monitors the connection and takes preventive action if required.
QL Stix now ships with an Ethernet adaptor by default.
QL Server SDK:
Web service that lets third party applications:

o Create groups and subgroups
o Copy content
o Create and edit QL Manager users views and rights
o Purge expired accounts and players with associated content
Bug fixes and improvements:

QL Server / Manager:
QL Manager, user management: The software can now handle more than 999 simultaneous user
connections due to QL Server code and database stored procedure optimizations.
QL Server upgrade patch used to reset default media and screen on/off values.
QL Player (Windows and Android):
RSS line break code is now supported (<br />). In previous versions this was only supported with
XML.
Arabic text splitting in Designer and Player now follows traditional usage.
Android:
QL Player could disconnect from QL Server if default content was displayed on screen for few
days.
An empty text field in Designer made QL Player Android crash. This issue has been fixed

Windows:
Shuffle playback: Navori added an exception preventing the same content from playing
consecutively.
HTML playback on 64 bit operating system was unstable and leaking handles.

VMLite VNC Server is now available from Google play. This is the first product you can use to
remotely control an Android device. The cost: Euro 6,00
Proxy Server with authentication support when using an Ethernet connection on an Android device
Issue:
QL Player for Windows supports direct connection and authentication through corporate proxy
servers. This feature is also supported on Android through Wi-Fi but not via Ethernet.
This article describes how customers can make Android comply with corporate proxies.
For digital Signage applications, the use of a third party proxy is highly recommended and often
mandatory.

New Features:
Navori introduces QL StiX 2400 Series media playback device. It a 100% plug and USB drive size
device, based on Android, that supports all QL player functionalities.
QL Player is now available on Android 4.1 Jelly bean running on tablets, smart phones and Google TV.
Navori QL Player Android retains all the features of Navori QL Player Windows simplifying content
management across both operating systems.
QL Server version 25 can handle simultaneously and transparently Windows and Android Players
(tablets) and QL-Stix 2400 series. There are no differences between managing either type of players.
Tickers designed in QL Manager will automatically rescale according to the Player's screen resolution.
Navori QL Server Feeds now support images. Users can upload images in server feeds and QL Server
will make the images available to their players. Images are automatically re-sized to fit their assigned
zone on screen and PNG transparency is supported.
This new version comes with updated documentation that can be downloaded from your Navori
extranet account.
Bugs fixes and improvements:

Navori QL Manager:
Issue corrected where event and alerts were sorted by date, not in chronological order.
When reviewing playback reports and aggregating results, media would appear multiple times in the
report. This issue has been corrected.
Player's free storage space alerts were not being sent out. This issue has been corrected.

Navori QL Player:
Text files attached to media content would not be transferred to Players when the file was empty. This
Corrected an issue where images delivered to players as part of XML feeds were not refreshed if
modified at the source.
In certain cases, players would have an issue with "Z" positioning (playing in the foreground). Issue has
been corrected.
When a media has been assigned a validity date in the future, the "Coming Next" feature still displays
the name of this media even though it is not shown on screen. Issue has been corrected.
Corrected an issue where images delivered to players as part of XML feeds were not refreshed if
modified at the source.

GPS Module:
Users can now create automated announcements for buses and other mobile applications with the Navori
QL Manager GPS Module. The Navori GPS Module can track a buss position and trigger an
announcement as the bus approaches the next stop. The user simply needs to assign an audio file to
each target location (bus stop) and specify a range in QL Manager. This is one example of the many uses
for this new module. You can use it in taxis, tour busses and any other mobile application
This feature is only available to users who have at least one player license with the GPS Add-On activated.
To confirm if the Add-On has been activated on your QL Server, log in using QL Manager and look under
MENU > Tools > Maps & GPS Trigger.
Refer to the Navori QL Manager GPS Add-On Manual for more detailed information.
Micros/Opera Parser for Meeting Room Management:
Navori QL Player is now compatible with Micros/Opera XML files and can display meeting room occupation
information according to the current date and time.
QL Player can display:
1. The list of all meeting rooms available including directions, customer/guest name and occupancy time
frame.
2. The guest's name and occupancy time frame per room.
Past events are automatically removed from the list of events shown on screen.
We provide a XML Parser Tool that converts Micros/Opera data files into multiple dedicated XML file (one
for each booked room) and the content is updated automatically in real-time.
Navori QL Player:
Navori QL Player is now compatible with Microsoft Windows 8.
Navori QL Server:
Navori QL Server is now compatible with Microsoft Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 and Microsoft SQL
Server 2012 (all editions).
Data Feed Manager:
Navori QL Manager now provides the following new features in the Data Feed Manager:
You can now choose to display an embedded image in the description field within any RSS feed by
selecting the box named: Image within a Cell. Uncheck the box to hide the image.
You can now choose to ignore HTML carriage return codes in a RSS or XML feed (>br codes) by
selecting the box named: Ignore HTML Code. Uncheck the box to apply the codes.
You can now select all the records in a RSS-XML feed at once, instead of having to select each one
individually. To do so, select the box named: Display All.
QL Manager:

You can now cut and paste multiple media items into different group or sub-group media folders
simultaneously. Older versions would only let you perform this task one media at a time.

o Navori introduces a new Ticker feature that lets you announce which media is currently playing
and which media will be played next on your screens. This feature reads metadata you assign
to each media you upload to the Content Library (these are the contents Name and Keyword).
This feature is great for entertainment venues or anyone who wishes to display the name of the
currently playing content on screen and the name of the media coming next.
This new feature is compatible with the Ticker and you implement it as follows:
Add a new zone to your ticker called Content Playing. When the ticker is displayed
on screen with your content, the name of the media currently shown on screen will be
displayed in the ticker.
Add a new zone to your ticker called Coming Next. When the ticker is displayed on
screen with your content, the name of the next media to be shown on screen will be
displayed in the ticker.
In the event the item shown on screen is a template and not a full screen media, the
Content Playing and Coming Next zones will display the name or keyword of the item
to be shown in the largest template zone.
These new dynamic text zones can only be assigned to a Ticker and like other text
zones you can assign them any color, size, font type, etc Also note text transition
effects (Fade, Fade & Grow, etc) can be applied as well.
Bugs fixes and improvements:
QL Player is now better optimized for small format PCs running on Atom/ION configurations and it
offers better performance with MPEG4 Full HD video on these platforms.
In certain cases, especially on small format PCs, viewers sometimes noticed a very short media clip
appear between two other content. This issue has been corrected.
In certain cases, a RSS feed can show a very small image that is not displayed and move the text
away from its original position. QL Player is now able to identify these types of images (that have no
name extension) and hide them automatically.
QL Player can sometimes take a long time to validate all the media that is contained in very long
playlists. This issue has been corrected and QL Player will validate this content much quicker than
before.
In rare cases, an RSS feed data record could contain an empty line which would cause QL Player to try
to reload the record several times before it would move on to the next record. This issue has been
corrected and the empty record will be skipped.
When users sent an update to their Players and no content was scheduled they would sometimes find
the Player had restored itself to its initial post-installation state. This issue has been corrected. QL
Players now display the default media when no content is scheduled after an update.
Users can now add a new command line to a QL Players Conductor.ini file that will give it the ability to
switch between Wi-Fi and 3G mobile connection. You must add the following line to the Conductor.ini
file, under the section Every Process: wifi_ssid=true
This feature assumes your PC player is equipped with a 3G mobile chip that is activated under
Windows.
When a tag inside a XML file showed a dot (.) the line or records were not recognized. This issue has
been corrected.

New QL Manager User Profile

New user profile created. Users who are assigned this profile can only access the Datafeed Manager.
This user can type or edit text message in a self-hosted Datafeed. The interface is configured as a
spreadsheet so the user simply enters the information and presses OK to confirm the changes and update
the feeds on their assigned Players. Every player displaying this feed will be updated automatically.
Uses: Posting a message in a hotel lobby, corporate reception desk. Change prices or post an instant
message on a quick service restaurant menu board either in a template or in a ticker.
How do you define this type of profile? Select: User Management > User Properties > Assign Profile,
Type=Feed Only
Navori Trigger SDK
The Navori Trigger Software Development Kit (SDK) is offered as an option in version 1.0.0.20.
Users can use dll files that are included with the Trigger SDK with any .NET compatible languages such as
C#, Visual Basic .NET, C++/CLI, etc...
The Trigger SDK enables to play any media, playlist, and triggered media, on the fly html or video stream. It
basically comes with a set of 5 functions that let you take control of QL Players playback at any time.
QL Player version 1.0.0.20 is delivered with an application that lets you manually trigger content on the
player. It can be used on any given player that has the Trigger add-on installed. The source code sample
(C#) for this application is delivered with the SDK that you can download from the following link: Download
Navori provides support for the trigger. Trigger support is charged at a rate of $399 per hour.
Email alert notifications
Automated email alert notification system updates: SMTP and SMTPS protocols are supported.
QL Manager
The software can send an alert if the player goes offline during the normal hours of operation. This
feature configured in the User's Alert Notification Profile under: "Trigger an alert if the player is
offline for more than HH:MM:SS". This feature is operational as soon as an Administrative user is
connected to QL Manager. NOTE: Alerts will only be triggered when the player's screen is ON
(according to the settings defined in the Player Technical Profile or in the Player Properties, if the
default operation times were overridden).
The system will prevent a user from deleting a template while another user is editing it.
Trigger feature: If a group has at least one QL Player with Trigger add-on activated, the content library
window will show a new set of folders under the heading "Trigger". The sub-folders contained under
Trigger are: "Published" and "Not Published". This feature works as follows: The system will send to
all the players in the affected group all of the content listed under the Published folder so the content is
available when a trigger event is detected. This feature can be accessed via the
ThirdPartyTestApp.exe located in QL Player root folder or by developing a third party application
using the trigger SDK.
File attachments: In previous versions, the system appended a time stamp to the file names. This
resulted in playback issues with interactive content that relied on external files. This issue has been
corrected. There is no more limitation in terms of how many files can be attached to content.
When using the right mouse-click in the QL Manager interface, users would often see the Silverlight
pop-up menu. This issue has been corrected when the latest version of Silverlight is installed and
running.
Double-clicking on a player name, on a media item in the content library, on a playlist icon or on a time
slot in the planning window will now open the item's respective properties window.
You may now copy a schedule for no more than 12 weeks at a time.
A new tab has been added to the Player technical profile window. This tab lets your specify the
number of days worth of content QL Player should download. In previous versions, players
downloaded 20 days worth of content by default. This new feature lets users change how much
programming data the player should download and store locally. This feature has been developed for
offline players.

Playback reporting accuracy: In previous versions, interrupted content was reported has having fully
played. Playback reports window includes the ability not to display playback reports of content with
partial playback. To avoid partial playback you must proceed as follows: Under Playlist Properties,
select tab = Playback Options > Give priority to = media.
When adding images to the content library, the system now detects and rejects CMYK files. Since we
have detected playback issues with certain CMYK files, the system will detect these images and
deactivate them permanently. RGB files are fully supported and will not be affected by this change.
Users are no longer permitted to copy/paste content between groups belonging to another branch or
the tree structure.
Deferred Player Updates: The date is now set to the current day when deferring player updates.
Template enhancements:
o The system will now resize templates according to the player PC's display resolution. This
means that players within the same group can use different resolutions. Templates sent to the
group will be resized on the fly and display according to each player's resolution.
o Templates that include playlist zones now update their duration as new content is added or
removed. This was not the case in previous versions.
Video content properties: Few users of previous versions had an issue when users modified the
start/end frames. This could cause problems at the player end. This issue has been corrected.
FLV content is no longer supported and the system will no longer let users add these files to the
content library. We have discovered this video file format creates serious memory leakage issues on
the Players and we have yet to see this issue resolved by the video filter producers. NOTE: Any FLV
media uploaded under previous versions will still work in the new version but you cannot add new FLV
files.
Corrections have been made to the German language version of QL Manager
QL Player
QL Player is now delivered with a dll that lets the software retrieve the screen's ON and OFF schedule
in order to launch RS232 commands. Click here to download.
Screen status monitoring: An xml file is included which users can use to update the screen status in
real time. This status will be sent to the QL Server and displayed in QL Manager under the Monitoring
window.
A command has been added to the QL playback engine's INI file that lets users deactivate the EVR
(Enhanced Video Renderer) when two consecutive MP4 files are played. This is to prevent a black
screen from appearing during the transition between media items.
To perform this change you must edit the QL Engine ini file and add the following line:

Detailed playback reporting: This is new for advertising network users. You can now enable detailed
playback reporting in addition to the current playback reporting information available in QL Manager by
default (for example, content has played 322 times). In certain cases, users are asked to deliver
additional playback details for specific players as a proof of the accuracy of Navori QLs playback
reporting. To enable detailed playback reporting, proceed as follows.
Add the following section to the QL Engine web configuration file:

There were some potential synchronization issues when displaying RSS or XML feed data records that
had empty cells. This issue has been corrected.
Data feed synchronization is now available in multi-threaded mode. In previous versions, QL Player
would set the data feed refresh time out to 2 minutes if at least one data feed was unavailable. This
new architecture is much more tolerant to feeds that become unavailable.

configuration. The file is called QLPlayerDiagnosticTool.exe. This program tests about 50 key points
of the PCs configuration. It can be used to test a PC after QL Players installation or for
troubleshooting.
QL Server software installer
Automatic configuration of secure communication via HTTPS is now available. The ConfigHelper
application lets administrators switch between HTTP and HTTPS as required. The installers now
generate log files that document each step of the installation process. This is so administrators can
review the information once the installation is completed.

launch this tool and it will collect information about the PC on which it is running, including information

Our goal is to improve incident resolution times by gathering as much information as possible about the
player's hardware and software configuration.

New! Navori Trigger SDK
The Navori Trigger Software Development Kit features a DLL file and technical documentation.
Users can develop their own triggers and interface with the Navori QL software using Microsoft Visual
Basic, c# or Visual C++.
With this SDK, any third party application installed on the Navori QL Player PC can retrieve information
from the Player's database and eventually trigger the playback of any preloaded content and playlists.
In addition, this third party application will be able to trigger an IP TV stream which is not currently
referenced in the Navori QL Player database.
New Software Features

Real Time Monitoring of the RS232 serial port
QL Manager Users are now able to monitor the status of their screen network in real-time.
First, system integrators and technical users must create or use a third party application designed to
communicate with external devices like flat panel display screens via RS232. Navori QL Player v.19 is
compatible with any such application capable of editing an XML file stored on the Player PC in real-time.
The XML file has 3 values and when the file is edited, it will be synchronized in real time with the QL
Manager dashboard so end-users are always kept informed on the exact status of their screens as well as
the Player itself.
Media file attachments
Navori QL v.19 lets users attach up to 8 files to each media content. When updates are sent to the

Players, all media and attachment files will be uploaded.

For example, a user can now send a Flash SWF file with links to external files like videos, images or XML
data/ When the Players are updated, all content will be distributed to each Player.
QL Manager multilingual interface
QL Manager's user interface is now available in French, German, Arabic, Spanish and Portuguese. Users
simply select the language of their choice in the selection box on the login page.
In regards to RSS data feeds, the text scrolling and display durations will adapt automatically for nonRoman characters such as Chinese and Arabic.
Automated email alert notification system updates
The automated email alert notification system has now been updated and supports both http and https
SMTP email servers.
All alerts can generate automated notifications that will be sent by email to the designated user according
to his or her alert and event profile.
RSS/XML feeds with image links now supported
Live data feeds that contain links to images are now supported in the Data Feed Manager. Simply add the
column that contains the links to images then use it in the template or ticker. Navori QL will scale and
display the graphic in the corresponding zone on screen.
Template Designer updates
The Template Designer now supports shapes (just like the Ticker Designer). You can create and
position geometric shapes (rectangles, ovals) on their own layers with transparency.
You can display fully synchronized data from multiple feeds in the same Template.
You can now rotate any object in a template. This applies to graphical shapes and data feeds.
You are now able to enter a font size directly instead of using the pull down selection.
There are two new TV-like transition effects available.
New Media Properties
There are 5 new professional transition effects for images. The new effects are: zoom out, wipe, slidein. Transparency is supported and transition effect speed is fully controllable.

Port ranges now supported for user login IP restrictions
Navori QL now supports the use of Port ranges when assigning IP restrictions for user logins. This is
especially interesting for corporate environments.
Administrators can now assign IP restrictions using "wild cards". For example: 258.22.*.*
This functionality is used when you create or edit a user account and assign one or more IP restrictions.
Automated alert emails
Navori QL can now send out email alerts to one or more users based on their profile. The system uses
your existing SMTP server to send out email alerts.
The system is designed in such a way that alerts are only sent once so there are no repeating emails that
could trigger SPAM filters.
Media RSS feeds are now supported
Navori QL now supports the management and display of media items (pictures, bitmaps) via the data feed
manager. Users can now display images from a RSS feed in a template or ticker.
Images will be displayed in a zone and re-sized as necessary. The original image's aspect will be retained
and you can also apply transition effects such as fades between images in a feed.
Navori QL now lets users assign local and global Playlists
This latest version lets users create and share playlists between levels. For example, you can create a
global playlist at the top level and sub-group users will be able to use that playlists in their schedules.
Changes made to higher level playlists will flow down to any sub-group that have scheduled these playlists.
A visual indicator will inform the user when a playlist is inherited from a higher level.
Group/Sub-Group tree in Player window
Modifying the Group/Sub-Group/Player structure would cause the Server to create virtual folders names
"Temp". This has been corrected in the new version.
Deleting a user in the User Domain window
Administrators were not able to delete user accounts the in the User Domain Window. Once a user
account was created, it was not possible to delete it. This issue has been corrected.
Playlist window
In certain instances, the order of the media items in a Playlist could change from the order that was
originally set by the user when the window was refreshed. This issue has been corrected.
QL Manager connections
In certain cases, QL Manager could randomly lose its connection with the QL Server. This issue has been
corrected.
Flash media
When a user adds Flash media where the duration is less than 10 frames or 2 seconds, QL will
automatically override the duration and set it to 7 seconds.
French keyboard issue
Users with a French keyboard configuration would have their numbers disabled in QL Manager. Users
with other keyboards were not affected. This issue has been corrected.
Location specific content in a playlist
When a user programmed a playlist zone in a template and the playlist contained location specific content,
this content was ignored at playback. This issue has been corrected.
Transferring multiple media items into a playlist (via multi-select)
When a user transferred multiple media items into a playlist using mutli-select, the order of the items would
be reversed. This issue has been corrected.

Server Properties

General
The General tab shows information about the physical location of the server hardware and the contact
information of the top level administrator.
The information on the left side is non-editable as it is retrieved from your Navori extranet account.
The information on the right side is used to configure your server's SMTP email settings.
PLEASE NOTE! You must configure these settings so your QL Server can send email alerts to your
users.
Configuring the automated email alert system

Navori QL Server can send out automated email alerts to any user based on their notification profile.
In order for this system to function properly, QL Server administrators must configure the system as follows:
1. Retrieve your SMTP server address (IP or DNS), login name and password. You will need this
information so Navori QL Server can login to your SMTP server for the purpose of sending out
automated emails. You will also need the Port used to communicate with your SMTP server.
PLEASE NOTE! You must select the Enable SSL option to enable secure SMTP.
2. You must create a new email account on your SMTP server for the Navori QL Server. This is the
SMTP account QL Server will use to send out automated emails. Assign to this account a name that
your users will recognize and not mistake as SPAM.

3. Enter this information in the E-Mail Settings area of the Server Properties > General window.
4. To test your connection, click the Test button. You will receive confirmation if your email settings are

Event & Alert

The Event and Alert tab lets you select at which interval you wish your Navori Server Events and Alerts to
be purged from the application database.
Recorded events and alerts can be accessed via Player > Monitoring tab. Purging the database will
remove all previously recorded events and alerts.
Database
The Database tab lets you enter the maximum database size before the server sends out an alert. Default
size is 2 Gb per database.
The Application Database is where all application settings, content list, template and ticker info,
playlist and scheduling data are stored.
The Playback Reporting Database is where the proof of playback data is stored.

Software Updates
The Software Updates tab lets determine at which interval should the server connect to the Navori
extranet to see if there are any updates waiting to be downloaded.

You set the interval and then check the Download Automatically selection box to let the server
download any new updates as they are published by Navori.
PLEASE NOTE: This tab only refers to the detection and download of Server and Player software updates.
It does not mean said updates will be installed. If you configured a valid email address in the License for
your server administrator will ensure they are automatically notified whenever a new update has been
downloaded. The administrator will then be able to launch the update process manually via direct or
remote access to the server PC.
Content Profile
The Content Profile tab lets you assign minimum/maximum content characteristics to prevent users from
causing issues with problematic content.
For example, you can set the Minimum Duration for all uploaded media. Any media with a shorter duration
will be rejected.
Setting the Maximum Bitrate value will prevent users from activating video files that exceed your
assigned value.
Setting the Maximum Frame per Second will prevent users from activating video or Flash files that
exceed your assigned value.
PLEASE NOTE: Users can upload media files that exceed these parameters. However, the file "Active"
check box (in the Media Properties to the right of the "Duration" value) will not be selected, nor will the
user be able to select it. It does not matter if the user's profile lets them activate content. They will not be
able to activate any media that exceeds the settings in the Content Profile.

Logging into Navori QL Manager

Users require a login account and password before they can access and use the Navori QL system.
Once your system or network administrator has provided you with the proper credentials, launch your
web browser and enter the Navori QL Server URL to get to the login page.
Enter your user name and password then hit Connection to log into the system.
Navori QL now supports 5 languages: English, French, German, Arabic, Spanish. Select the language
of your choice before logging in.

Managing groups and sub-groups

This section covers how to manage groups and sub-groups of QL Players.
Group / sub-group hierarchy

Navori QL lets users manage multiple players in groups and sub-groups. The software can support an
infinite number of groups and sub-groups that you create and manage in your Navori QL Server. You can
create multiple levels of sub-groups.
You are only limited by the Microsoft SQL Server version you are using* and your hardware storage
capacity.
*Microsoft SQL Server Express is limited to 4 Gb max. database size.
The hierarchy looks like this:

Depending on the user rights that you have been given by your Navori Administrator, you may have the

domain.

PLEASE NOTE: Players can only be added to the lowest branch of your group/sub-group tree. This
means you may have all your players under a group but if you plan to create a multi-level group/sub-group
structure, your players can only be placed under the lowest sub-group level. You cannot create a structure
where you would have players under a group that also has sub-groups under it. If there are one or more
sub-groups under a group, the players can only be added to the lowest level.

Using the search feature

Navori QL lets users perform searches across all groups and sub-groups at their disposal to quickly locate
players.
Simply enter the player's name, location or category in the Search field and hit enter. The results will
be displayed below.
When a search is active, the search field will turn blue and so will the results area.
When you are done and wish to restore the view to all available groups and sub-groups, hit the X key.

TIPS!:
1. To quickly select all the players in your network, simply click in the Search box and hit Enter. All your
players will be found and selected automatically.
2. To select all of the players that are currently running a specific software version, type in the full version
number in the search box. For example, to find and select all players running v.19 of Navori QL, you
would enter: 1.0.0.19 (this is the version released on March 15th, 2012).
Here is an example of a potential use for this feature. Lets say you have automated your player
software updates and you recently downloaded and installed a new QL Server update. To confirm the
player software updated itself as scheduled, wait until the day after the scheduled update was to take
place then do a search based on the new version number. All of your players should be selected.
Any players that did not install the update will be missing from the results. You may want to reschedule another software update or install the patch manually.
Adding a group
To add a new group to the player window, you right click in the tree structure and select New > Group.
If you right click on the Domain Name (root of the tree) you will create a new group.
If you right click on any existing group you will create a new sub-group.
PLEASE NOTE! Each group and sub group has its own content library, Playlists can be created at the
group or sub-group level.
Schedules are attached to the level where your Players are located regardless of how many levels of
groups/sub-groups/sub-sub groups you may have defined.

Deleting a group
To delete any group or sub-group in Navori QL Manager, right click in the tree structure on the group you
want to remove and select Delete.
This also applies any sub-groups and players below the item you are removing.
PLEASE NOTE! Use this feature with caution as any content libraries, playlists and planning that have
been created in this group will be deleted.
Group properties
To modify or review a group's properties in Navori QL Manager, right click in the tree structure on the group
you want to modify and select Properties.

Monitoring Players
This section covers how to monitor the status of QL Players.
Alerts
Examples of the type of alerts the system can detect:
Loss of player heartbeat (indicating loss of connectivity).

Abnormal application termination.
No content scheduled for player.
No data feed available.
Player PC is running out of media storage space.
Player PC's RAM, handles, GDI or threads exceed normal operating parameters.
Content playback error (video codec not recognized or corrupt media for example).
Alerts can be sent to users via email if the system is configured to do so. Also, the color of the status
indicator in the Management and Monitoring windows will change if any alerts are detected.
Alerts details can be accessed via the Monitoring window once you have generated a report. See
"Responding to alerts" for details.
The QL Player status color codes are:
GREY: Player has not been configured/activated yet. It has not begun communicated with the server.
BLUE: Player is functioning normally.
YELLOW: Player has reported an alert.
RED: Player has stopped communicating with the server. Possible causes: network or Internet
connectivity issue, player PC has been shut down, Navori QL Player application was terminated
abnormally.
When the system is configured to do so, users will receive email alerts according to their account's
notification profile.
A user's alert notification profile is assigned in the User Properties window (Menu > User Management >
Create/Assign User then right-click on a user name and select Properties > Assign Profile).
Once configured, you select if the alerts are to be sent via email or text messaging.

QL Administrators can select if a user is to receive all alerts, content related alerts or technical alerts
(default notification profiles). Administrator may also create custom alert profiles depending on the user's
particular needs.
Users will only receive the type of alerts they have been assigned. For example, a user who is in charge
of content and who has been assigned a Content Related Alert profile will only see alerts related to content.
This person will not receive any notifications for technical issues.
Note the following:
Alerts are only monitored during the period where screens are turned on (as set in the Player Technical
Profile). If an alert occurs while the screens are turned off, it will be ignored and it will not be recorded
in your reports.
Users who are logged on to the system via QL Manager at the time of the event will receive alerts in
real-time.
Users who have email configured will also receive notifications in real-time.
PLESE NOTE! Alerts are sent only once, even if an alert is recorded multiple times (for example,
player has failed to connect to the server according to it's heartbeat settings and the issue is not
corrected for many hours, only one alert notification email will be sent out).
Player monitoring
Navori QL Server can send out an alert if a player goes offline during the specified hours of operation
(periods when the screen is set to be "AWAKE" or "ON").
CONFIGURATION
You set up player heartbeat monitoring as follows:
1. Select MENU > User Management > Alerts > Connection
2. Next to "Trigger Alert if: No Player Heartbeat Within Last", enter the delay you wish to monitor for a
heartbeat from the players.
If a player under the user's control fails to communicate with the QL Server within this period, the following
will happen:
The respective player's status indicator (selection box to the left of the player's name) will change to
RED.
An alert will be recorded in the database (the table you access via the Player > Monitoring window).
An alert notification email will be sent (assuming the QL Server is properly configured to send out
emails and the user's email address was recorded in the User Account)
PLEASE NOTE!
This feature is operational as soon as an Administrator user is connected to the QL Server via the QL
Manager.
Alerts are only triggered if the screens are awake (turned ON). For more information, refer to Player
Technical Profile and Player Properties (if default screen suspend/awake times were overridden).

Reviewing the Player status

To review the status of your Players, proceed as follows:
1. Select the Players you wish to review.
2. Click the Monitoring tab at the top of the Player window.
3. The window will expand and reveal the Monitoring table.
You will see the following columns:
Group: The group name to which the Player belongs to.

Player: The Player name.
Date: The date of the last Player update event.
Sent By: The name of the user who sent this update.
Status: The status of the update. If the Player is currently downloading content, you will see the
progress bar otherwise you will see Done meaning all content has been downloaded.
Currently Playing Playlist: Name of the Playlist currently displayed on the Player's screen.
Status: The status indicator for this Player.
Alert: The number of alerts recorded since the last reset.
Screen Status: If configured, this column will display a status indicator for the Screen (requires
RS232).
Version: The version number of the Player software running on this PC or Android device.
Storing and using Player status queries

When you select Players and click the Monitoring tab, you end up with results for all the selected Players,
regardless of their status or monitoring period.
It is possible to restrict the scope of the results in the Monitoring table using stored queries. This way you
can filter results according to the criteria of your choice: For example you can select a specific period, by
Player Download Status, Player Status, Screen Status or Player Software Version. You can create new
queries and edit or delete existing queries.

To create a new query, click the + button. A new window will open.
Enter a name for the query and then select the criteria you wish to filter the results with.
Click Ok to confirm and save your query. Your saved query is now accessible from the pull-down

Monitoring screens via RS232

Introduction
Starting in Navori QL version 1.0.0.19, users have the ability to track the status of their screens via RS232.
In fact, this functionality extends beyond RS232 to any protocol used for monitoring or bidirectional
communications (like HDMI for example).
You are not limited to displaying just the screen status but you must first create a program or use a third
party application to pass along the values you wish to monitor to Navori QL via an XML file.
Features
The status of any RS232 device or other protocol can be polled and monitored using this feature.
For example, you could query the status of a screen or device and display the result in the QL Manager
Monitoring window.
Requirements
You must use equipment that supports serial communications via an RS232 port (or any another protocol).
If you choose to monitor activities via RS232, both your Player PC and screen will require an RS232 port or
some type of USB to RS232 adapter.
If you plan to use this feature with any other type of device, you must ensure it has a proper communication
port and that it can send and receive data through this port.
Implementation
There are many types of commercial grade devices and screens that support RS232 communication
for remote control and status monitoring.
Other devices can communicate via HDMI or other protocols.
Since each one uses it's own proprietary codes, system integrators and technical users will need to
create or use a third party application designed to communicate with external devices like flat panel
display screens via RS232.
Navori QL Player v.19 is compatible with any such application capable of editing an XML file stored on
the Player PC in real-time.
QL Player writes an XML file in the application folder (by default: C:\Program Files
(x86)\Navori\Navori QL Player).

The XML file is named RS232Result.xml and the syntax is as follows:
The colorId value can list one of 3 results:

1 = Will display the RED indicator in the Monitoring window
2 = Will display the BLUE indicator in the Monitoring window
3 = Will display the YELLOW indicator in the Monitoring window
The status value can be edited according to your needs.
The RS232result.xml file is sent to the QL Server and results are displayed in the QL Manager
Monitoring dashboard in as little as one second. Every QL Manager user will be able to see this
information in the Monitoring window, in real-time.
In order for this system to function properly, your 3rd party application must be capable of editing the
RS232Result.xml file and replace the status and colorID values according to your application's
requirements.
Be sure to respect the values listed above so the status indicator properly reflects the status of your
device.
Responding to alerts
Alerts are tracked in the Monitoring window when you have selected
your player(s). You can review any alert that was recorded in the past
and you can respond (reset) the alert as required by following these
steps:
1. Select the players you wish to review in the Player window.

3. To access alert details and respond to alerts, click any line.

4. Clicking off the check boxes in the left column and clicking the OK button will have the effect of
responding to the alerts.
5. This will reset the alert count in the Monitoring table to 0.

Email alerts
Navori QL Server can send automated email alerts to any user based on their notification profile.
The system works as follows:
1. An alert is reported by a player.
2. The alert is recorded in QL Server's database and the specific player status indicator in QL Manager's
player window is updated.
Alert details are also listed in the Monitoring > Alert table according to the user's alert profile.
3. An email is sent out to users who match the alert profile.
PLEASE NOTE! Only users who's alert profile match the type of alert will be notified (both in QL Manager's
dashboard and by email).
QL Server must be configured to send out emails through your SMTP server otherwise users will not
receive alert notifications by email. SMTP SSL/TLS protocols are supported.
Users will only be notified once by email even if the alert state is recorded more than once. This is so
users do not receive multiple email alerts for recurring issues that have not been responded to.
Emails will only be send out on the first recorded instance of an alert.
Email alerts are only sent to users while an Administrator is logged in. If you require continuous alert
email monitoring you must make sure you have an administrative account logged into QL Manager at
all times. Note it's possible to leave an administrator logged into the system for as long as required.
If the PC logged into the system ever loses connection, it will restore it's connection automatically.
You can simply log in and minimize your web browser to keep the account logged in.

Types of email alerts

"No Heartbeat" Alerts
This alert is sent out when a player has failed to send a "heartbeat" to QL Server within a predefined time
period. This period corresponds to the value entered under "No player heartbeat within last..." in a user's
alert profile. This alert will be sent in real time but only while there is an Administrator logged into QL
Manager. This would be any user with an Administrator profile. No alert emails are sent if there is no
administrator logged in. When this happens, alert emails will be sent out the next time an Administrator
has logged in.
The following alerts will be sent out by email regardless if an Administrator is logged into the system or no:
Player Offline (Code: A-01-01)
This alert is sent out when a Player is offline.
Download Error (Code: A-01-02)
This alert is sent out when a Player has failed to download a file.
Abnormal Termination (Code: A-02-01)
This alert is sent out when a Player has been shut down unexpectedly due to an unplanned PC reboot or
hardware crash.
No Timeslot on Schedule (Code: A-02-02)
This alert is sent out when a Player has no programming scheduled for the current day or if the Player has
run out of programming
(exceeded the number of days without an update as per MENU > Tools > Player Technical Profile >
Planning).
Content Playback Error (Code: A-02-03)
This alert is sent out when any content is skipped by a Player because it could not be played
(for example: Player received a video file encoded with an unsupported codec so it skipped the item).
Events
Represents the type of event notification a user is authorized to receive.
Events can be of a technical nature, management or content related.
Examples are:
New content has been published.

Content has expired.
A user requires authorization to activate content added to library.
Screens have been turned off (put to sleep) or turned on (awake).
A user's event notification profile is configured in the User Properties window (Menu > User Management
> Create/Assign User then right-click on a user name and select Properties > Assign Profile).

You can select if the user is to receive all events, content related events, management related events or
technical events.
Once configured, you select if the events are to be sent via email or text messaging.

About Navori QL Reports

Navori QL provides a powerful reporting engine that records the following data:
What content played.

On which player.
Was the content playing full screen or in a template zone.
The size and location of the zone.
How many times the content played (impressions).
All information is displayed in real-time and reports can be generated at the interval of your choice.
You may select a preset reporting period (current week, last two weeks, last month, last quarter, last
semester, last year).
You may also enter a specific date and time to set both the beginning and end of your search period.
You can search/sort the results based on a primary and a secondary key and you can aggregate your
results by group/sub group or category/sub category.
Reports can be exported in Microsoft Excel or CSV format for further manipulation or integration into an
automated invoicing system.

PLEASE NOTE! Each player processes its own reports and uploads the results to the QL Server at the
predefined interval. This means the server can support a large number of players with minimal impact on
performance.
ALSO NOTE! The playback reporting window now features the ability to disregard content that has not
played from beginning to end (for example, content that was cut off before the end of it's duration). This
can happen when a playlist's Playback Options are set to Give Priority to Schedule (default setting.)
To avoid partial playback to show up in your reports you must proceed as follows:
Under Playlist Properties, select tab = Playback Options > Give priority to = media.
Make sure you select the Played In Full option located above the "Search" button in the Playback
Reporting Window.
This ensures your reports will show complete playback times for your content.

Detailed playback reporting

A new feature has been added for users who operate advertising networks.
It is now possible to enable a more detailed type of playback reporting in addition to the current reporting
method. This feature is meant to assist users that must provide additional playback details for specific QL
Players as a proof of the accuracy of the software's reporting.
To enable detailed playback reporting at the player end, proceed as follows:

Searching
Report results can be searched/sorted by content name, customer name and advertising reference.
You may enter primary and a secondary search criteria in each of the fields. You are not limited to a
single criteria, you can use all of the fields for your searches.
Click the Search button to perform your search. The number of records that were found based on
your search parameters will appear below the Search button.
Aggregating
Report results can be aggregated by group or by category. Default option is "none".
Selecting one of the options will affect how the results are presented in your report (results listed by
group or by category).

All media content is uploaded and stored on the Navori QL Server using Navori QL Manager.
Streaming video and HTTP content is retrieved from remote servers and displayed in QL Player.
*PLEASE NOTE! If you assign an MP3 media to a playlist as a full screen item, the file will play but the
Player's screen will display a static image for the duration of the audio content.
This image is located in the root folder of the application.
If you wish to prevent this, Navori suggests assigning your MP3 media to a template. This way you will be
able to display other media on screen while the audio file plays.

You manage your media by creating folders in the Content window.
To add a new folder, simply right-click on the Media & Templates tab and select New > Folder.
You may create as many folders as you like and then add content in each folder as required.

All static images will be set to 7 seconds (default duration). Any media with a specific duration (video,
flash animations) will be set up according to their individual duration.
TIP! If you have a really large number of files to upload, you can launch multiple QL Manager sessions to
speed things up. Doing so will let you perform other tasks in QL Manager while the initial upload process
is still running. You can do this by opening a new browser window and logging in using a different user
account. This way you can perform other work on the QL Server or even upload other files while the initial
upload process is still running. This way you won't have to wait until the upload is finished to get back to
work.
If you are adding one file at a time, the Media Properties window will open and you will enter this new
item's name and other required information.
If you added multiple files using multi-select then you will need to right click on each media item in the
library and select Properties to edit the media clip's properties.
Items will be added to the list and from there you can drag and drop each one into the playlist window.

Remember that you have one content library per group and sub-group. For example, importing
content in a higher level group will make this content available to its sub-groups. Content imported
into a sub-group with no child group will only be available to that group.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR FLASH CONTENT USERS (SWF files):

Navori QL Manager can detect the duration of any Flash file accurately as long as the file was coded with a
specific duration. This applies to any Flash file that uses frame based animation or ActionScript animation.
If the Flash file lacks proper duration information then you may need to use the "override" feature and enter
the duration as the application will not be able to auto detect the file's duration.
If a user uploads a Flash file that has less than 10 frames or runs less than 2 seconds, the software will
automatically override the duration and set it to 7 seconds. However, the user can edit the duration at any
time by selecting the Override option.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR IMAGE CONTENT USERS:

Navori QL Manager can detect CMYK image files and these will now be automatically flagged as inactive
(the Active box will be empty and not selectable). We have detected issues when playing back some
CMYK content so the system will no longer support them. RGB image files are still fully supported.
These files are not affected by this change.
Special Considerations
Important notice concerning video content
M-JPEG is an older video codec that is incompatible with the filters used by Navori QL Player.
The M-JPEG codec is often used to encode videos on royalty-free content sites like iStockphoto for
example. This codec is mainly used to encode production files and should not be used for playback.
Files previously encoded in M-JPEG should be re-encoded using a better performing codec. More
modern/better codecs such as XviD or H.264 are recommended.

Beginning with version 1.0.0.20, the FLV video format is no longer supported. This video format has
been found to have memory leakage issues and there are currently no filters available that can correct
this issue. Any previously uploaded FLV videos will still play but you will no longer be able to upload
new FLV videos to the library.

Adding a URL
You add URLs (html, asp, jsp, php, etc...) in the Content window.
To add new items, right click in the Content window and select New > URL.
This will open the Media Properties window where you will enter this new item's name, URL and other
required information.

For example, importing content in a higher level group will make this content available to its subgroups.

Adding HTML5 content

Navori lets you import HTML5 media content. When dealing with HTML5 content served from a web
server, you may use the same steps as adding a URL. Simply right click in the content library and select
Add > New > URL. However, it is also possible to upload your HTML5 content to the QL Server who will
then send the content to your players just like any media file.
The trick is to package your HTML5 content into a ZIP file that will contain the main HTML page and the
folders containing the supporting files (images, scripts, css, etc...).
Prerequisites
In order to proceed, you must first make sure you have installed Microsoft Internet Explorer 10 on your QL
Server PC so the system can generate thumbnails for your HTML5 content. Your QL Player PCs must
also be running Internet Explorer 9 or 10.
Preparing your media

Here is the typical file and folder structure for your HTML5 content:
index.html is the root file (this is the file that Navori QL will play).
The images and script folders contain the files that will be called up by index.html each time it is
played.
NOTE: You do not have to use these folder names and you can have more folders or none at all. In
any event, HTML5 content will always be made up of a root file and referenced files.
In order to make this content uploadable you must compress it all into a single ZIP file.
1. Using Windows Explorer, select the root HTML file and referenced folders.
2. Right click the selection and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) Folder.

3. Once the ZIP file has been created, you may rename it.
Our ZIP file is now ready to upload to the QL Server.
Uploading the media

1. In QL Manager, right-click in the content library window and select New > Media.
2. Select the ZIP file you created earlier. Click Open to upload it.
3. Once uploaded, you will be presented with the Media Properties window.

If your ZIP file contained multiple HTML5 files, you can specify which one you wish to play via the
Default File field.
Simply select the arrow to see a list of all the HTML5 files you can select from.
You may now set the other properties (Playback, Validity, Advertising, Keywords) and click Ok when
you are done.
4. A new thumbnail for the media will be added to the library. You may now use it as any other media
item.

Adding a template
You add templates in the Content window.
To add new items, right click in the Content window and select New > Template.
This will open the Template Designer and you will be able to create a new template using image
backgrounds, text, date, time, live data, media and playlist zones.
Remember that you have one content library per group and sub-group. For example, creating a
template in a higher level group will make this content available to its sub-groups. Templates created
in a sub-group with no child group will only be available to that specific group.

Adding a video stream

You add a live video or IPTV stream in the Content window.
To add a new live live video stream, right click in the Content window and select New > Stream.
Next the Media Properties window will open and you will enter this new video stream's URL. You can
type the entire URL or copy/paste it in the appropriate field.
Navori QL Player relies on Windows Media Player components to display your streaming video content.
To ensure your video streams can play in Navori QL Player, you must use a video streaming technology
that is compatible with Windows Media Player. The video stream's URL must match what you would use
in Windows Media Player to play the feed and the URL's structure will depend on your streaming server.
You can specify feeds streamed from a PC running VLC for example, or you can display streaming content
form an IPTV source.
PLEASE NOTE! All video streams compatible with Windows Media Player without any additional plug-ins
can be played back in QL Player. This includes unicast and multicast feeds.
Navori guarantees compatibility with Microsoft streaming servers. For unicast streaming services, users
can configure the Windows Media Services on Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition. The Windows
Media Services role is delivered with Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition so it only needs to be
configured. Users who require multicast streaming must use Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition.

This server supports multicast streaming and has been tested and certified for use with Navori QL Server.
There are many other streaming servers on the market that are compatible with Windows Media Player
(with or without additional codecs). It is possible some of these solutions are also compatible with our
software but we can only certify the Microsoft streaming solutions at this time.
For best performance, players must have Internet access with sufficient bandwidth at each location.
Streaming video content is handled like any other type of media. You may set the media validity,
advertising info and keywords.
Adding a TV Feed
You add live TV Feeds in the Content window.
To add a new live TV Feed, right click in the Content window and select New > TV Feed.
Next the Media Properties window will open and you will enter this new item's name and select the TV
channel.

The live TV feed module is compatible with any Happauge TV-Tuner card running Win-TV version
7.0.29160 or newer.
The module can display Analog, DVB-C, DVB-T (SD or HD signals when applicable).
TV feed content is handled like any other type of media. You can set validity periods, suppress the
ticker, etc...
Live TV can be displayed in full screen or in a template zone.
Channel selection has been simplified. Simply launch the NavoriQLTVScan.exe executable from your
Navori QL Player application folder.
The channel list will be sent to your Navori QL Server at which point it is available for selection by any
user.
This process allows for selecting the same TV network (e.g. BBC or CNN) for players in different
regions, despite their channel selection differences.
Live TV feeds will be added to the list and from there you can drag and drop each one into the playlist
window.
Moving content
You move content between folders using cut and paste.
First, you select the media that you wish to move. Right-click on it's thumbnail and select Cut.
You then select the folder where you want to move the media, right click on an empty area in the
Content window and select Paste from the pop up menu.
Your media will then be pasted into this new location.

It is also possible to select multiple media items to cut/paste by holding down the Control (Ctrl) key
while making multiple selections with your mouse.
Just make sure you hold down the Ctrl key and then right-click the last selected item to pick the
operation you wish to perform.
NOTE: You can cut and paste multiple items at one time between different groups and sub-group
media libraries.
Selecting multiple media items

You can select multiple media items and drag them together into a playlist. This is quicker than selecting
individual items.
Here is how you proceed:
Click the first media clip. Hold down the Ctrl key.

Continue selecting each subsequent media clip by clicking on them while holding down the Ctrl key.
On the last item you select, keep the mouse button down and drag and drop your entire selection into
the playlist of your choice.
PLEASE NOTE! If you don't hold down the mouse button on the last selected item, it will not be retained
after you drop your entire selection in the playlist.
The last item will not be part of the selection that is copied over to the playlist.
ALSO... This applies to dragging media items from the content library to playlists only. To move items
inside your content library folders you still need to cut/paste.

Adding trigger media

The Navori Trigger Software Development Kit (SDK) is offered as an option in version 1.0.0.20.
Users can use dll files that are included with the Trigger SDK with any .NET compatible languages such as
C#, Visual Basic .NET, C++/CLI, etc...
The Trigger SDK lets you play any media, playlist, html or video stream on the fly. It basically comes with a
set of 5 functions that let you take control of QL Players playback at any time.
QL Player version 1.0.0.20 is delivered with an application that lets you manually trigger content on the
player. It can be used on any given player that has the Trigger add-on installed.
The source code sample (C#) for this application is delivered with the SDK that you can download from the

DEFINING MEDIA TO BE TRIGGERED

If a group has at least one QL Player with Trigger add-on activated, the content library window will show a
new set of folders under the heading "Trigger".
The sub-folders contained under Trigger are: "Published" and "Not Published".

OPTION 1 - MEDIA ITEMS IN THE TRIGGER > PUBLISHED FOLDER

When media items are placed in the Trigger > Published folder, they are sent to all the players in the
affected group so the content is available when a trigger event is detected.
In order to trigger this content, the following requirements must be met:
1. Your QL Player must have the Trigger Media add-on enabled.
2. You must have written your own trigger code in a .NET compatible language. It is your code and the
Navori Trigger SDK that trigger the media. Your code can respond to any external event like a RFID
tag, motion sensor, key press, etc...
3. Once a trigger event is detected, the associated media item is launched immediately, temporarily
replacing the scheduled content currently playing.
TRIGGER TIPS
1. Removing a media from the Trigger > Published folder will prevent it from being triggered. To do so,
delete the item or cut/paste it to the Trigger > Not Published folder.
2. To send a trigger media to all the Players in your group/sub-group tree, make sure to add it to the
Trigger > Published folder at the root (top group in the tree).

content in your own code.

OPTION 2 - TRIGGERING MEDIA OR PLAYLISTS THAT WERE PREVIOUSLY SCHEDULED

(NOT IN THE TRIGGER > PUBLISHED FOLDER)
You are not restricted to content in the Trigger > Published folder. You can trigger any scheduled
content or playlist that have already been stored on your Players.
The process is similar to the one described above except you define in your trigger code media items or
playlists that are part of current or future schedules that have already been sent to the players.
You can also trigger the playback of any external media like web pages (HTML), streaming video (MMS)
and live TV feed (assuming the players are equipped with the proper hardware/software). External media
does not need to be part of any current or future scheduling.
You can test the Trigger feature is properly configured by using the ThirdPartyTestApp.exe which you will
find in the QL Player root folder or by developing your own software application using the Trigger SDK.

Media Properties
This is where you set the various parameters of the media content.
Double-clicking on a media item in the content library opens the item's properties window.
General
The General properties of any added media are the descriptive name you wish to assign (by default,
Navori QL Manager will use the file name but you can edit this field). Next is the media's duration.
Navori QL Manager will auto-detect the duration of all animated and video content and enter this
information in the Duration field. Any static content (images, web pages...) will be assigned a duration
of 7 seconds but you can modify as required.
The default status for any media is "Active", meaning this media can be used in your Playlists. You
can deselect this option to prevent this media from playing without deleting it from your content library.
Any deactivated content will appear in the Content window with its thumbnail grayed out. You can still
drag and drop the media into any playlist but the content will not play. The item will be skipped until
someone re-activates the content by selecting the Active box.
PLEASE NOTE!: Administrators can create user accounts that must get their content approved before the
material can be shown on screen. These users are permitted to upload content but the Active box will be
deselected and they will not be able to select it. These media items will be listed in the content library and
their thumbnail will be grayed out. These users can drag and drop these media clips into one or more
playlist but this media will not play until another user (with the proper user rights) inspects each media clip
and selects the Active box. Only then will these items play as part of your scheduling.

Playback
The Playback properties are:
Transition in: Select one of the following: Fade In, Slide Up, Slide Left, Slide Right, Slide Down,
Wipe Down, Wipe Left, Wipe Right, Wipe Up, Zoom Out.
This currently applies to all supported image formats on Player PCs that are running under Windows
Vista or Windows 7.
PLEASE NOTE! Transitions are not supported under Windows XP.
Start on Frame/End on Frame: Select on which frame to begin and end playback. This applies to
video files.
Crop: You may crop any web page. The X and Y values position the cropping box on your media and
the height and width values define the cropping box size. Use this feature to isolate a web page's
graphics or a portion of a page.
Loop: Defines how many times this content will play each time it is invoked in a playlist. The default
value is "1".
Hide Ticker: Selecting this box will hide any programmed ticker for the duration of this media.
Mute: Selecting this box will mute any audio in your content at playback.

Validity
The Validity properties are used to further enhance your scheduling options. By default, all content is
valid indefinitely but you can also program select periods where this content will be "valid" (or active).
When validity periods are defined, the content will only be visible on screen during these periods (as long
as the content is part of a scheduled playlist).
Think of validity as a set of rules that you can put in place so that your media behaves in a specific way
when it is scheduled.
For example, let's say you have a retail store and you wish to notify your customers the store will be closing
at 9 PM. You could prepare a template or other media with your message and assign a validity period
between 8:30 and 9 PM every day, for as long as you want. You can then insert this content into any
playlist scheduled to be shown late every day. This way, your content will only appear on screen between
the hours of 8:30 and 9 PM.
You can also use the validity period as a way to ensure a media that is loaded and placed in a schedule
playlist today only gets to play for a specific period sometime in the future. For example, you have an
advertising clip that must only be shown on screen in 6 months for a one week period. You simply upload
your media today and then set the validity period to last one week in 6 months. Then, you drag and drop
the media clip into a playlist and make sure this playlist is part of the schedule during that period.
You can add as many validity periods as you need. You can have content shown in the morning
during the week and in the afternoon on weekends, or any other combination.
Whenever the validity end date is exceeded, the content will no longer play unless you extend this
period or you remove all validity periods.
In the Validity properties window, right-click and select Add to create a new period.
Name the period and select the start and end dates.
PLEASE NOTE: Content will stop playing on the selected end date. In the example above, you would
select May 1st if you wanted your content to play on April 30th.

Right-click on the period you just created and select Properties to configure days and times.
Enter start and end times and then select if this period should apply to the full week (default) or select
days.
You can add as many days and time periods that you want. Just keep right-clicking and select New.

You can add as multiple validity periods for each media item. Simply right-click in the validity window
to add new periods.
When you are finished, simply click OK to save your settings.
Advertising
The Advertising properties is where you can enter references about a customer or an advertising
campaign.
These fields are then retrieved and stored in the Navori Report database.
You can sort your reports according to Customer Name or Ad Reference making it easy to determine
what played when, for any given client.
TIP!: Since these are alphanumeric fields, you are not limited to using customer name or ad references.
You could use these fields for project names or department references. You will still be able to sort your
proof of playback reports using these criteria.

Keywords
The Keywords properties is where you can enter a list of keywords (meta data) that will be used by Navori
QL Manager's powerful search engine. Searches can be performed by content name, type or keyword.
Using keywords will help improve your searches.

To assign keywords, select Media Properties and Keywords. Enter as many keywords as necessary
and leave a space between each one.
The more keywords you add, the easier it will be to find your content as your library grows.
Attached files
You can attach an unlimited number of files to each media clip. The software no longer limits you to 8
attachments.
The purpose of this feature is to let users send file attachments with their content to the QL Player. This is
useful for example when you need to publish a Flash file that requires external content like images, videos
or xml/data to be in the same folder as the media file.
Select the number where you want to add a new attachment and click the Upload Media button to
select the file to attach.
Click OK to confirm your selection.

Template Designer
This section covers how to use the template designer.
What is the template designer?

The Template Designer is where you create new original content or layouts where you can display media,
text, live data and playlists in zones that you position on screen.
Right click on in the Content window and select New > Template.
You can create simple message slides by combining text, date, time, live data, geometric shapes and
images:

Click the Template tab on the left to name your template. Only named templates can be saved.
Enter the resolution of the target screen. If you are creating a template that spans multiple screens,
make sure dimension extends to all your screens.
NOTE: template will automatically be sized according to the highest player resolution in the currently
selected group. However, he system will now resize templates according to each player PC's display
resolution. This means that players within the same group can use different resolutions. Templates
sent to the group will be resized on the fly and display according to each player's resolution.
If you are creating a template for multiple screens (video wall) then the template will be scaled to the
total area of your screens and you may position individual content zones on each screen.
Template duration will adjust automatically based on content added (media and playlist zones).
Default duration is 15 seconds and this is the default behavior. As you add more content, the duration
of the template will adjust to the content. However, you can at any time override this by selecting the
"Manual" duration setting at which point you can enter a specific duration in hours:minutes:seconds.
Click the Zone tab on the left to name the currently selected zone. NOTE: This tab will open whenever
you click on any zone on the stage.
A zone name is automatically assigned any time you add a new media or playlist zone. You may edit
this name field at your discretion.
The zone's size and position will automatically update itself as you drag or resize zones with your
mouse. You may also edit these values directly in each field by typing in dimensions or coordinates
(in pixels).
If the currently selected zone hosts a playlist, you can specify if it should loop continuously or play only
once and stop until any other content in the template has finished playing. Templates will take on the
duration of the longest media zone or playlist zone that it contains.
For example: You have two playlist zones in a template. Zone A has a duration of 30 seconds. Zone
B has a duration of 1 minute. Template duration will automatically be set to 1 minute and during this
time the contents of Zone A will play twice (unless you set the zone behavior to "pause" and not loop).
The contents of Zone B will only play once. This holds true regardless if the zones contain individual
media, multiple media or entire playlists.

You can set the angle of rotation of any zone by entering a value in the Rotation field (or by clicking on
the handle at the top of each zone and rotating it using your mouse).
Click the Text tab on the left to change the currently used font, typography, color and paragraph
settings.
The font drop down field will list all fonts currently available on your local workstation. NOTE: you
must ensure the font selected is also installed on your QL Server and your Player PCs otherwise a
standard Windows font will be substituted. It is up to the user to install fonts on the players or restrict
their selection to standard Windows fonts otherwise you may get unexpected results.

The Feed Effect pull down is where you select the transition effect to be used as the Player transitions
from one database or RSS/XML record to the next.
The Reading Speed option represents the delay between records. NOTE: Navori QL determines the
live data display period automatically based on the content (how much text to be shown in each field).
For this to work properly, you must first set which field in your data feed will be the Referent (meaning
the field on which Navori will synchronize the other fields). The reading speed value is set to 100% by
default. If you wish to "tweak" the time for which each text block will be shown on screen, you must
change this value. You may enter any value between 0 and 200% with the lower number representing
a longer display time on screen.

The Background tab lets you select the background type (image or solid color).
You use the Search field to find the image from your content library.
To bring up a list of all available images, click in the search field (leaving it blank) and hit the enter key.
NOTE: Background images are not stored/retrieved from the content library. They are uploaded and
stored to a template background image library.
You must add images to this library from within the template designer itself. You can add keywords to
these images and perform searches.

Creating a template
Templates are used to create sophisticated screen layouts that can include multiple media items,
background images, foreground images, playlists, time, date, text, shapes and live data feeds.
Since Navori QL is a multi-user/web based application, it is possible you can have have more than one
user editing the same template at the same time.
If one user attempts to delete a template while another user is editing it, the user trying to delete the
template will be prevented from doing so.
Template name
You must name your template before you can save it.
You enter the template name as in the example below.

Resizing the stage

The display area of your template is referred to as the stage. The stage's resolution is automatically set to
the current group's highest player screen resolution.
For example, if all the players in the currently selected group are set to full HD in poster (portrait) mode you
would see the template background shown in the proper orientation and the dimensions would be W: 1080,
H: 1920.
Modifying these values will change the size of the template area.
PLEASE NOTE: Beginning in version 1.0.0.20, templates are automatically scaled according to each
player's screen resolution on the fly. The default resolution will always be set to the highest available on
any player in the currently selected group/sub-group, however any player using a lower screen resolution
will see the template re-scaled to fit the screen.

Changing the duration

Template duration is set to 15 seconds by default. This is when you have no media or playlist zone in the
template or if the template has static content (text, date, time, shape or template image zones).
You can change the template duration by changing the entry in the Duration field.
If you add any media or playlist zone, the template duration will automatically adjust itself to the
duration of the longest media or playlist zone that you add.
PLEASE NOTE! You can manually override the duration at any time by selecting the Manual option and
editing the duration. If the manually entered duration exceeds the duration of the media and playlist
zones, they will simply loop or remain paused according to each zone's behavior setting (loop or paused).
One reason why you may want to edit the duration manually would be in the event you are creating a
simple template that does not contain any animated content (like with no Flash, video, etc...).
This would be the case where you are designing a template with a solid color or picture background and
static text. The default duration would be used unless you change it to a longer period.

Adding a zone
Zones are areas that you define in your template. They can contain typed in text, today's date, the current
time, individual media or entire playlists.
To add a new text zone you click the Text button and then position/scale the zone until you achieve
the desired effect. Text zones can overlap media and playlist zones.
To add a new date zone you click the Date button and then position/scale the zone until you achieve
the desired effect. Date zones can overlap media and playlist zones.
To add a new time zone you click the Time button and then position/scale the zone until you achieve
the desired effect. Time zones can overlap media and playlist zones.
To add a new data grid zone you click the Data Grid button and then Data Grid zones can overlap
media and playlist zones.
To add a new shape zone you click the Shape button and then position/scale the zone until you
achieve the desired effect.
To add a template image zone you use the Search box in the upper right corner. This will bring up all
the media that matches your search keyword. Note, clicking in the field and hitting the Enter key will
bring up all available media. This media is not stored in your content library. You must upload each
item and it will be stored with the template (similar to the background images) You drag and drop each
image into the stage area and position/scale as required. Template image zones can overlap any
media or playlist zones on screen. Use this zone to display a corporate logo over other content for
example. Transparency in PNG files is supported.
To add a media container you use the Search box in the middle right side. This will bring up all the
media in your content library that matches your search keyword. Note, clicking in the field and hitting
the Enter key will bring up all available media. You then drag and drop each item into the stage area
and position/scale as required. Media containers cannot overlap other media or playlist containers.
To add a playlist container you simply drag and drop the playlist icon anywhere on the stage. This
will create a new container that you can position/scale as required. Playlist containers cannot overlap
other playlist or media containers.

Adding text
Clicking the Text button will create a new free form text zone on the stage.
You can reposition and rescale the text zone anywhere in your template either by drag and drop or by
editing the coordinates under ZONE in the left tool bar.
To edit the text in place, click the check box in the upper right hand corner of the zone and then edit the
text inside.
To edit the text and modify the typographic settings (font type, size, color, alignment...) use the TEXT
settings in the left tool bar.
To rotate the text zone, click and drag the handle at the top of the zone or enter the rotation factor in
degrees in the Rotation field.

The Data Feed Manager lets you add as many XML/RSS live data feeds or self-hosted feeds as you
require.

To ignore any HTML code in your currently selected RSS or XML feed (like carriage return that show
up as ">br" codes in the text), select the Ignore Html code option.
You can also select which column will contain the leading records. All other columns will be
synchronized with this column. In the case of a live news RSS feed, you would select the Description
as the Referent column as this will usually be the field with the most data to display. This way all the
data in the field will always be shown and other selected fields will be synchronized with it.
When you are finished with your selections, you can confirm your changes by clicking the OK button.
The Data Feed Manager will close and you will return to the Template Designer window.
You can now select the feed you want to use and then position the fields on screen (or use the
DataGrid tool).

Using Media RSS

Navori QL supports media RSS feeds.
The method for inserting media RSS is similar to adding text RSS feeds to a template with the following
difference:
You can add a field that will display images and graphics from a remote source.
Images and graphics will be scaled according to the size of the field that you place in the template.
The aspect ratio of the graphic will be respected so the image is not distorted when displayed on
screen.
Media RSS uses one or more links that point to images or other media files that are included in the feed.
Here is how you insert Media RSS fields into your templates:
1. Open an existing template or create a new one.
2. Open the Data Feed Manager.
3. Click + to add a new Media RSS or XML feed.
4. Type in a name for this new feed.
5. Copy/paste or type in the URL for the feed.
6. Look for columns that show URLs for the media you want to show. These are the fields you
will drag and drop in your template.
7. Make sure Image within a cell is selected (if not, select it) and click OK to save and continue.

Formatting XML data feeds

Navori QL supports XML data feeds with additional text formatting. An example would be a XML feed that
includes line breaks to format the text.
These data feeds are actually published as XHTML files (essentially a XML-based Web document) which
you can reference in Navori QL's Data Feed Manager like any RSS or XML feed.
You would use an XHTML file to display a list of items with a carriage return between each one so it looks
like a list when displayed on your player's screen.

The Data Feed Manager lets you create and store data in a table format directly in Navori QL Server's
database. You can then add this data to your templates as you require.
The process is straightforward.
You open the Data Feed Manager and then create a new server feed.
You are then presented with a table that you populate with data.
Once you have entered all your data, you select which columns to show in the Template Designer so
you can add these fields to your template. Any time you update the data in the table, Navori QL

You can add images to your server feeds. These images will be uploaded to the QL Server and served to
your players dynamically.

Setting feed effects and duration

Each time you add a new live or stored data field you can set a transition effect and change the display
time under the FEED EFFECT heading.
You may apply an effect (transition) to each field:
o First, select the field and then under FEED EFFECT select between: None, Fade, Fade &
Grow or Horizontal Wipe from the pull down menu.
o By default, each data record will be displayed based on the amount of data in the Referent
field. This is the field on which Navori QL will synchronize the other fields on screen.
You assign the Referent field in the Data Feed Manager.
The Referent field should always be the one that will display the most content. This is how
Navori QL determines how long to leave the data on screen before loading the next record.
This determines the time during which each record will be displayed on screen before moving

to the next one. PLEASE NOTE! The minimum length of time any data can be displayed is 2
seconds.
o As a rule, you should select the same reading speed value for all the fields in your template
otherwise they will not be synchronized.
o The reading speed value is not absolute (it does not represent minutes or seconds). This
value represents a percentage that affects the display time of each record as calculated by the
software (between 0% and 200%).
Lower values mean more time between records.
Higher values mean less time between records.
So a reading speed of 0 would leave the text on screen for a longer period than if you selected
a reading speed of 200.
o The language setting also has an impact on the time the text is spent on screen. Selecting
Roman, Asian or Arabic will modify how the software calculates the reading speed to
accommodate each type of text.
Advanced data feed features

Navori QL supports the display of multiple records (lines) of a data feed in the same template.
Let's say you have a RSS feed that contains the following data:
Current weather (line 1)

Extended weather forecast (line 2)
Hourly weather forecast (line 3)
Weather forecast for the next 36 hours (line 4)
Here is how this RSS data feed would look in the Data Feed Manager:

To display individual lines like the current and extended weather forecast in separate fields within the same
template, must proceed as follows:
1. Open the template designer.
2. Set up the background and other design elements that will "dress up" the template.
3. Select the data feed with the information we wish to display (in this example we would select our
weather RSS feed).
Drag and drop each field into our template. By default, each field will display all of the records in the data
feed, however you can restrict the scope via the # Lines field under Feed Effect.
In the example above, the selected field will only display the contents of line 1 of our weather feed. This
will correspond to the current weather in this RSS feed.
The field on the right will only show the contents of line 2 of our weather feed because it has been
configured to show line 2 and nothing else.
This will correspond to the extended weather in this RSS feed.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
You do not have to restrict the scope to a single line of data. For example, you could restrict the
scope to lines 1 and 2 for a 10 line data feed.
If the data feed is to display an image, you must check-off the Image option under # Lines.
Each time you select the Image option, the default duration for the content of this field will be set to a
minimum of 7 seconds. This is to prevent images from changing too quickly.
When this option is not selected, we assume we are dealing with a text field and in this case a 4
second minimum duration will be applied (unless there is another field from this data feed in the
template or ticker that is pulling content from a column designated as referent). See this page for
more information about referent data feed columns.

Using the Data Grid

The Data Grid feature is used to display a complete table of data. This is ideal when you want to show
content like menu items and prices, a list of conference attendees or airline departures.
You can drag and drop individual data fields onto the stage but to create organized and properly aligned
table form your feeds you use the Data Grid tool.
Here is how it works:
You input your data into the Data Feed Manager or you select a RSS or XML feed.
Click the Data Grid button at the top of the Template Designer window and then drag the corners of
the Data Grid field until you have positioned and sized the table area. Alternately, you can enter
actual coordinates for pixel precision under the Zone tab.
You then select the feed you wish to work with using the FEED pull down menu.
Drag and drop each field into the Data Grid area. If you make a mistake or if you wish to reorder or
re-size columns, simply click the edit box in the field's upper right corner and then you can edit the
columns via drag and drop.

You can edit the font size, style and color using the typographic controls under the Text header.
You can restrict the number of lines shown in the Data Grid area using the # Line field. Editing the
Height field will change the height of each cell in the table.

Note that we displayed the Data Grid on a solid color background but you can also use a photo/bitmap
as well.

Template background
Select the Background tab in the left side tool bar then pick a color and it will be applied to the template as
a background color.
To use a previously uploaded background image, type a search keyword in the Search field then hit
Enter
(click in the search field and click Enter to bring up a list of all available images).
Click on the image and it will be applied as a background image.
PLEASE NOTE! Background images are not taken from your content library. Instead, images you want
to use for your template backgrounds must be uploaded separately by right clicking in the area under
the Search box and selecting New.

You will then select a file to upload and once the file has been received by the server, you will be
allowed to name the picture and add keywords to assist with your searches.
Adding a template image

Template images zones can be positioned on top of any other content. This is different than a media zone
in the following way:
1. Template images can overlap any other zone on screen.
2. Template images are managed like background images. You must upload and save these images
inside the template designer. These images are not stored in the content library.
3. PNG files with transparency are supported.
This type of image can be very useful. For example, to display a corporate logo on top of the template
content for branding or identification.
To add a new template image, proceed as follows:

Select the image you want to add and click Open to upload it to the server.
Rename the image or use the existing file name.
Add one or more keywords (optional). When entering multiple keywords, leave a space (no commas

Adding media
To add individual media containers, proceed as follows:
To look for a specific media item, type a keyword in the Search field and hit Enter. To bring up all
available media in the current content library, click in the search field, leave it empty and hit Enter .
PLEASE NOTE! Any time you perform a search, the search field and the search result area turns blue.
This is to indicate a search is in effect. Clicking the small "X" button to the right of the search box will
end the search and return the default view.
Drag and drop the media's icon anywhere on the stage. A new container will automatically be created.
Resize and reposition the container manually or edit it's height, width, X and Y coordinates to achieve
the desired effect.
MEDIA CONTAINER BEHAVIOR

If a template has no assigned background image Navori QL Manager will display the default icon in the
content library.
If a template has a background image, Navori QL Manager will display this image as the template icon
in the content library.
Rotating content
You can rotate many template elements a full 360 degrees.
Any item that can be rotated will display a small "handle" in the top center header. You can click and drag
the handle around to rotate the element or you can type in the angle in the Rotation field on the left.

How to publish a template

Templates are treated in Navori QL Manager like any regular media.
Templates appear with their own distinctive icon in the content library so you can identify them easily.
Simply drag and drop your templates into any scheduled playlist and publish to display on your players.
To add multiple templates at the same time, follow these instructions.
Template features
Here are some important template features and properties:
The default template background color is black. If you do not select a different color or background
image, the template's background will remain black.
The last used font typographic styles in your text, date, time and data fields are stored in memory and
will be automatically selected when you create your next template.
This applies for the previously selected font style, font size, color, boldface, italics, underline and text
alignment.
You can suppress (hide) any programmed ticker from playing for the duration of any template. When
the template has finished, the ticker will automatically return.
Text zones can be placed on top of any media and playlist zones (this is referred to as "titling"). This
applies to static text, time, date and live text data feeds.

Duplicating templates
Any template can be duplicated.
To duplicate a template, proceed as follows:
Right-click on the template you wish to duplicate. Select Copy.
Right click on an open area in the content library and select Paste.
The copy will be listed under the original. The duplicate template name will show the suffix _Copy.
You may now right click on the duplicate template to edit and save it under another name.
It is also possible to select multiple templates to copy/paste by holding down the Control (Ctrl) key
while making multiple selections with your mouse.
Just make sure you hold down the Ctrl key and then right-click the last selected item to pick the
operation you wish to perform.
NOTE: You can cut and paste multiple items at one time between different groups and sub-group
media libraries.

Deleting a template
Any template can be deleted.
To delete a template, right-click it's thumbnail and select Delete.
PLEASE NOTE! Navori QL Server will prevent a user from deleting a template while another user is editing
it.
Editing a template
To edit a template you can either right click it's icon (in the Content Library) and select Properties or
double-click it's icon.
Double-clicking a template icon in a playlist has no effect.

Selecting templates
You can select individual templates to copy, delete or add to a playlist (via drag and drop).
To select multiple templates at once, hold down the Control (Ctrl) key on your keyboard as you select each
templates then right click to select an operation to perform (cut, delete or copy).

If you let go of the Ctrl key before you release the mouse key on the playlist, only the currently selected

Managing fonts for your templates and tickers

When you select fonts to display any text or live data feeds in the template or ticker designer, you see the
list of all the fonts currently installed on the PC you are currently using. This list may be different from
what is installed on your Navori QL Server and Players. If you select any font not currently installed on the
Server and Players, the system will use the closest default Microsoft font so it's important to install any
special font you wish to use in your templates and tickers.
This must be done on both Navori QL Server PC and Player PCs.

you must be an Administrator on the target machine to install fonts.

To install a TrueType or OpenType font on Windows Vista, right-click on the font file and then select
'Install'. You can also drag or paste a font into the Fonts Control Panel.
Note: In Windows Vista if you double-click on a font the 'Install' button is not available in the font preview.
This is a new feature in Windows 7.
Windows XP
To add a new font to your computer:
1. From the 'Start' menu select 'Control Panel', then select the 'Appearance and Themes' category.
2. Select 'Fonts' from the 'See Also' panel at the left of this screen.
3. On the 'File' menu, select 'Install New Font...'
4. Click the drive and folder that contain the fonts you want to add.
5. To select more than one font to add, press and hold down the CTRL key, click the fonts you want, then
click on 'OK'.
PLEASE NOTE! Always reboot your Server and Player PCs after installing new fonts to ensure Navori QL
has access to them.
If you can't reboot the Server PC, you must at the very least re-start the IIS service otherwise the fonts will
not be displayed.

To add a new font to your Android device:
1. Copy the TrueType font from your Windows PC to a USB stick.
2. Insert the stick into a free USB port on the Android Player.

In this section we provide a series of "real world" template examples and explain how each was created so
you can incorporate some of these techniques in your own templates.
Airline departure template with weather

In this example we will look at the Airport Departures template with weather feed:
The first step is to start with a blank template and assign the background image. It's always a good to plan
ahead and integrate some of the graphical elements in your background image. In our example, we
created the image in Photoshop, making sure some of the base text and graphical elements were already
placed in position. This will save us time later when we add the live data and media container zones.

Ticker Designer
This section covers how to design and publish a ticker.
What is the ticker designer?

The Ticker Designer is used to create overlays that can display static text, the current date and time,
graphics and live (RSS/XML) or any data feeds stored on your QL Server.
Tickers can be used to display live news RSS streams, sports scores, weather information, linked graphics
or any text information that you can store in Navori QL Server's database.
By default, tickers have a transparent background. However, you can define a solid shape as a
background element and layer information on top if this is the effect you require.
Tickers always appear above your scheduled content and you can create and show as many tickers as
you want. They will each play in sequence.
The duration of the ticker will be set to the duration of the data feeds it contains but you can override
this and set the duration of your choice. If you are creating a ticker that does not contain any data
feed, its duration will be 15 seconds by default. You can also set your own duration.
Similar to the template, the default ticker stage size (width) will match the current group's highest player
screen resolution. However, you can adjust these settings to get the visual effect you require.

Ticker folders
Navori QL Manager uses folders to store and publish Tickers.
In the Content library you will notice two folders when you click the Ticker tab. The folders are called
Published! and Not Published.
Any ticker saved in the Published! folder will automatically be shown on your player any time you
schedule a playlist.
(Please Note! The ticker will be removed each time a media file in the playlist has the "Hide Ticker"
option turned on in its Media Properties > Playback window).
You can list one or more tickers in the Published! folder and each will automatically be shown on
screen whenever you have playlists that are scheduled. All tickers listed in the Published! folder will
play in sequence just like media in a a playlist. The duration of each ticker will relate to how many
records there are to display in each data field or to the duration entered manually.
You can create sub-folders below the Not Published folder (you can't create sub-folders in the
Published! folder).

You can easily tell when a ticker is published as there will be a gray bar appearing any time you have
scheduled playlists in the Planning window.
PLEASE NOTE!
If you want to create new tickers but not display them right away, you must save them in the Not
Published folder. If you want to remove a ticker currently published and save it for later, you must
cut/paste the ticker from the Published! folder to the Not Published folder.
The only exception is when you assign a ticker to a specific playlist using the "Assign Ticker" option.
When one or more tickers are assigned to a playlist, they will be added to any currently published tickers
(the assigned tickers will be shown first, followed by the tickers in the published folder). Once the playlist
with the assigned ticker ends, only the tickers in the published folder will be displayed.
If the next scheduled playlist also has tickers assigned, they will again take precedence over any ticker in
the Published! folder.

the order they are listed. Each ticker will display all live data or self-hosted (server) feed in sequence.
Creating a ticker

Adding an image
To add images, you must first perform a keyword search of your content library or click in empty field and
hit enter to see all images.
You then drag and drop the desired images right on the stage. You can resize and reposition the
images until you achieve the desired effect.
Note you can use the Aspect Ratio option in the left side tool bar to lock in the aspect so you do not
distort the image when you resize it.
PNG files with a transparent background are supported and the transparency will be preserved when
you position these images in your ticker.
Transparent areas in your PNG files will be shown in black in the thumbnail picture but will appear
transparent as soon as you drag and drop them into your ticker.
To rotate the image, click and drag the handle at the top of the zone or edit the value of the Rotation
field.
Adding Content Playing/Coming Next field

The Content Playing and Coming Next fields are used to achieve broadcast TV-like effects on your
players. Examples would be commercial music video TV channels that show the name of the currently
playing video and the name of the next video at the bottom of the screen.

The Content Playing field

The Content Playing field can only be assigned to a ticker. Since tickers are overlays that display on top of
any media or template shown on screen, the information will always be visible at the assigned coordinates.
The Content Playing field will display the name of the media that is currently being displayed on screen.
This can be any type of supported media and not just video clips. The media's descriptive name will be
shown and if there are none assigned, we will display the media's keywords.
When you are showing templates, the Content Playing field will list the names of the media playing in the
largest container on screen:
Media Container: the Content Playing field will list the name or names of each media playing in this
container.
Playlist Container: the Content Playing field will list the name of all media playing in the playlist for this
container.
To use this feature, proceed as follows:

1. Drag and drop a Content Playing field into your ticker. You may resize and reposition the field as
required.
2. Format this field as you would for any text, time, date or data field by using the typographic controls on
the left of the Ticker Designer.
When your ticker is active, you will see the name of the currently displayed media appear in this field.
The Coming Next field

The Coming Next field behaves exactly like the Content Playing field except it will show the name of the
media that follows the currently playing media.
To use this feature, proceed as follows:
1. Drag and drop a Coming Next field into your ticker. You may resize and reposition the field as
required.
2. Format this field as you would for any text, time, date or data field by using the typographic controls on
the left of the Ticker Designer.
When your ticker is active, you will see the name of the next media appear in this field.
PLEASE NOTE! In order for this to work properly, you must ensure the Hide Ticker option is not selected
for any media or template.
Adding live data

This section covers using live data feeds and media RSS feeds in a ticker.

Using Media RSS

The method for inserting media RSS is similar to adding text RSS feeds to a ticker with the following

Images and graphics will be scaled according to the size of the field that you place in the ticker.
The aspect ratio of the graphic will be respected so the image is not distorted when displayed on
screen.
Media RSS uses one or more links that point to images or other media files that are included in the feed.
Here is how you insert Media RSS fields into your tickers:
1. Open an existing template or create a new one.
2. Open the Data Feed Manager.
3. Click + to add a new Media RSS or XML feed.
4. Type in a name for this new feed.
5. Copy/paste or type in the URL for the feed.
6. Look for columns that show URLs for the media you want to show. These are the fields you
will drag and drop in your ticker. Click OK to save and continue.

Formatting XML data feeds

Navori QL supports XML data feeds with additional text formatting. An example would be a XML feed that
includes line breaks to format the text.
These data feeds are actually published as XHTML files (essentially a XML-based Web document) which
you can reference in Navori QL's Data Feed Manager like any RSS or XML feed.
You would use an XHTML file to display a list of items with a carriage return between each one so it looks
like a list when displayed on your player's screen.

you select which columns to show in the Ticker Designer so you can add these fields to your ticker.
Any time you update the data in the table, Navori QL Server will update the ticker on your screens

Setting feed effects and duration

Each time you add a new live or stored data field you can set a transition effect and change the display
time under the FEED EFFECT heading.
You may apply an effect (transition) to each field:
o First, select the field and then under FEED EFFECT select between: None, Fade, Fade &
Grow or Horizontal Wipe from the pull down menu and specify a reading speed (this
determines the time during which each record will be displayed on screen before moving to the
next one).
o PLEASE NOTE! you should select the same reading speed value for all your fields on the
same template otherwise they will not be synchronized.

o The reading speed value is not absolute (it does not represent minutes or seconds). This
value represents a percentage that affects the display time of each record as calculated by the
software (between 0% and 200%).
Lower values mean more time between records.
Higher values mean less time between records.
So a reading speed of 0 would leave the text on screen for a longer period than if you selected
a reading speed of 200.
o The language setting also has an impact on the time the text is spent on screen. Selecting
Roman, Asian or Arabic will modify how the software calculates the reading speed to
accommodate each type of text.
Positioning on screen
By default, tickers will be displayed at a width equal to the widest player screen resolution in the current
group and positioned 5 pixels from the bottom, centered on your screen.
If you don't modify this ticker size, your ticker will always be positioned properly, right at the bottom of the
screen. However, you can create tickers that exceed the screen size and are truncated.
Note it's possible to create a ticker that extends across two or more screens which is sometimes useful in
multi-screen / single player installations.
The ticker stage area is transparent (checkered background).

You can position text/data fields, time, dates and even shapes.
Shapes can be rectangular or oval.
Rectangular shapes may be solid (color) or transparent.
Rectangular shapes can have rounded corners.
Shapes can also have a solid or transparent border.
Simply enter the size of your ticker in pixels and the system takes care of the rest.
However, if you want to position your ticker elsewhere on screen then you should proceed as follows.
Set the ticker size to match the resolution of your screen.

Position all the graphical and text elements exactly where you want them.
When you publish your ticker, all the elements will be displayed with pixel perfection.

Ticker duration
By default, tickers will last 15 seconds when they only contain static elements (text, date, time or shapes).
If you add RSS/ XML or server feeds, the ticker duration will be adjusted to match the time required to
display all the elements in your data feed.
You can also set a fixed duration by clicking Feed Completion, selecting Manual and entering the duration
in the field below.
Matching your screen's resolution

Tickers can be made to adapt to the Player's screen resolution automatically.
To do so, you must select the Auto Scale option which can be found under the Duration setting in the
Ticker parameters.

How to create a mask for your content using the ticker designer
Anyone familiar with Photoshop masking understands how you can create a mask layer for creative effects.
You can use Photoshop and Navori QL's Ticker feature together to create masks for your content.
Here is how:
1. Create a graphic that will be your mask. You can use various tools but Photoshop is always a favorite.
Start with an image area that matches your Player screen resolution. Next, create your mask and
delete the background layer so you can see the transparent area. In the example below, we applied a
Gaussian Blur to soften the edges of the mask and create a more dream like effect.
2. Save the Photoshop file in its native format first (PSD) so you can re-open it later and modify it. Next,
save the file in PNG format for use in Navori QL.

3. Create a new ticker in Navori QL Manager and size it to match your Player screen resolution.
4. Import the PNG file into the ticker designer.
5. Drag and drop the PNG file into the ticker stage and position it at coordinates 0,0.
6. Make sure the new mask ticker is located in the Ticker > Published! folder.
7. Update your Player. Mask will appear as an overlay with your content showing through the
transparent area(s).
TIPS! Be creative with your mask designs. Create masks for various holidays, special events, etc...
You can create masks out of text, geographic shapes and even add multiple transparent areas or create
grids for special effects. Remember you can turn off the ticker for any content so the mask can be used
sparingly.

How to display a permanent watermark logo on screen

It is sometimes useful to display a permanent logo or graphic on screen, regardless of the content being
shown. This is similar to TV stations that show their logo on screen.
To achieve this effect, you use the Ticker feature. By default, tickers are scaled to the Player's screen
width and have a height of 200 pixels. When left in the default configuration, tickers are designed to
appear across the bottom of the screen. Since tickers are overlays and always display their graphical and
text elements on top of any playing content, we simply create an empty ticker and scale it to the size of our
Player screen.
TIP!: If you want to show a logo with an irregular shape, run it through Photoshop first and knock out the
background then save the image as a PNG file. The ticker designer will retain the transparency and your
logo will "float" over your content.

Playlists
This section covers how to create and use playlists.
What is a playlist?
A Playlist is a list of content that you program to loop over a
certain period of time.
The basic steps are:
You import your content into the library.

You create playlists.
You drag and drop content into the playlists.
You may create as many playlists as you want. Some users

may find they are fine with one playlist scheduled to run 24/7
while other users may require multiple playlists for different
days or even times of each day. The Navori QL Manager lets
you create and manage playlists according to your respective
needs.
Each playlist is represented by a colored square in the playlist
window. This same color is then shown in the planning
window so you can easily identify when your playlists are
scheduled.
By default, playlists will display all content in the order in
which they are listed. However, you may invoke the Shuffle
function in the Playlist Properties to randomize playback.

Creating a new playlist

To create a new Playlist, you proceed as follows:
1. Right click in the upper area Playlist window and select New.
2. Give your new playlist a name (this can be any descriptive name like morning, monday, weekend,
specials, etc...)
3. The new empty playlist will be added to your list.

4. Clicking on the playlist icon will open up the content area below it.
This is the area where you will drag and drop your content from the library on the left.
5. Drag and drop your content to populate the playlist. You can move content around until you get the
order you want.

Multi-level playlists
Navori QL supports multi-level playlists. Playlists can be created at each level (group, sub-group, sub-subgroup, etc...) and each playlist is associated with the content library from the same level.
Content can be added from the level where the playlist was created. Content can also be added from
any level above but not from any level below.
Users who attempt to add content from a lower level to an upper level playlist, will see the following
error:
When a playlist is created at a group level, it is automatically available to any sub-group below (within
the same group/sub-group tree). Sub-group users who have been granted access to the levels above
their own will be able to drag and drop playlists created at a higher level into their own planning grid.
They will be able to modify these playlists by changing the content order or by deleting items. They
can only add items from the same level the playlist came from or from any level above that (assuming
they also have access to these higher levels).
Sub-group users who have not been granted access to the levels above their own will still be able to
use the playlist from a higher level. They will be able to reorder the items in this playlist and even
delete items but they will not be permitted to add any new content because they don't have access to
the higher level library.
Here are some practical examples:

Let's say you have a complex, multi-level sub-group structure. The top level group is called International
and you have sub-groups below for various countries, languages and cities. You have a sub-group for
Germany, one for Spain and another one for Switzerland. Each of these sub-groups has another sublevel. Under Switzerland we have French, German and Italian. Under each of these sub-groups we also
find levels for various cities.

In QL Manager, the structure would look something like this:
In the example above, players in the Geneve sub-group are 3 levels down from the group International.
If we chart a path to the 3 players shown above, we would go through: International, Switzerland, French
and Geneve.
o Each one of these levels has its own content library and users can now create one or more
playlist at each level.
o Playlists created at the Switzerland level or at the French level can be used in Geneve's
schedules. These playlists would be indicated as such and every user with access to Geneve
would be able to use and modify these playlists (modify content order or delete content).
o Any user with access to Geneve and the levels above would also be able to add content taken
from each level where the playlist came from (or content from any level above to which they
also have access).
A playlist created at the French level can receive additional content from the French,
Switzerland or International content libraries (as long as the user has access to these
levels.
A playlist created at the Switzerland level can receive additional content from the
Switzerland and International content libraries (as long as the user has access to these
levels). However, a user at the French or Geneve level cannot add content from their
respective libraries to this playlist. Only content from Switzerland or above can be
added.
o If we had players under Lausanne, users could also use playlists from the levels above as long
as they are given access to these levels by their QL administrator. The sames rules described
above would apply here as well.
This "top down" playlist inheritance is extremely powerful for larger organizations where it is not alway
feasible to visit each bottom level individually to make programming changes. Users with access to the
higher levels can manage content and create playlists which can be accessed by users at lower levels.
Once a multi-level playlist has been scheduled, users at the higher level can add or delete content to the

playlist and the content changes will be inherited by the levels below.
How can you tell these playlists apart?

Multi-level playlists are identified by a second color indicator.
Single level playlists are identified by a single color indicator as

Playlist properties
This is where you set the various parameters of each playlist.
Double-clicking on a playlist icon in the top part of the playlist window opens the item's properties.
Editing a playlist's properties

To edit a playlists Properties, you proceed as follows:
Right click on the playlist icon.

Select Properties.
General
The only editable field in the General properties is the playlist name.
The other fields (revised by, on) are filled by the application automatically.

Playback options
In Playback Options you define how the playlist will behave when it is scheduled (Priority) if audio should
be muted or if the contents of the playlist should play as listed or randomly.
The priority options are:
Give priority to Schedule: This means the playlist will stop to play at the exact time specified in the
schedule, regardless of what is currently playing. For example: You have a playlist that is scheduled
to play from 8 AM to 10 AM. At 10 AM the playlist is 10 seconds into a 30 second video clip. The
video clip will be cut at 10 AM sharp and if there is another playlist scheduled to begin, it will do so at
that exact time. If you do not select another option, priority will be given to the schedule by default.
Give priority to Media: This means Navori QL will let whatever content currently playing at the
moment the playlist is scheduled to end finish playing, thus deferring the start of the next playlist. For
example: You have a playlist that is scheduled to play from 8 AM to 10 AM. At 10 AM the playlist is 10
seconds into a 30 second video clip. The video clip will continue to play to the end. The other playlist
scheduled to begin at 10 AM will instead start after the video clip has finished playing.
PLEASE NOTE! When you give priority to media, your proof of playback reports will show results for
media files that have played for their entire programmed duration (not cut-off). If you select Give
priority to Schedule your reports will include results for media files that may not have played in their
entirety.
If you tend to play mostly short clips and are concerned with having content cut because you have
scheduled many short playlists then you may want to give priority to media. On the other hand, users who
schedule mostly long content (30+ minutes video clips for example) should probably leave the default
setting (give priority to schedule). Otherwise their playlists may end up seriously shortened.

To mute the audio (turn off the sound) for the entire playlist, click Mute Audio.
To play the contents of the playlist at random, click Shuffle. Note that by default, all playlist items will
play back in the order listed.
Rights
Playlist Rights is where you can select who else in your user list will be able to access this specific
playlist.
This is a great feature when
you want to restrict some
users from gaining access to
some playlists and making
unwanted changes. For
example, you could have a
store manager with access to
all playlists and one or more
employees with access to
one playlist only. This way
the store staff cannot alter
global content, just the
playlist they have been given
access to.
By default all users who

are part of the same
domain will have access to any new playlist by default.
Their user names will be listed in the Rights page and they will be selected (meaning they have access
to the playlist).
To exclude them from the list, de-select them. This way, next time they log on, they will no longer
have access to this playlist.

Restrictions
Users can apply the following restrictions to a playlist:
Restrict the maximum number of media items allowed in the playlist.

Restrict the maximum content duration allowed in the playlist.
These restrictions are cumulative. You can restrict a playlist to 3 items who must not exceed 15
minutes for example, or simply limit one option or the other.
If no values are entered, default will be no restrictions.
Location specific content

Feature details
Each player can be assigned up to 25 specific and unique media content which can be called up in a
playlist via a placeholder (Add Player Specific Content). Whenever the playlist encounters one of these
placeholders it calls up and displays the corresponding content that was assigned to the player. If a player
in the same group has nothing assigned then it will skip the placeholder and play the next media or
template listed in the playlist.
You assign player location specific content as follows:
1. You can assign one or more media files and URLs to any QL Player (there are up to 25 "slots"
available total for each player).
To assign location specific content you begin by right clicking on the player name (in the Player
window in QL Manager) and select Properties.

2. Next, click the Location Specific Content tab.
3. Click the location (number) you wish to assign a media for and then click the Upload Media or
Add URL button on the right side to add the media to this player. You may add up to 8 media
files for each player and you will be able to reference each one using the Add Location
Specific Content menu in your playlists.
Adding location specific content to your Playlist

You add the location media to your playlists as follows:
1. In any playlist, right click in the playlist area and select Add Location Specific Content.

2. Select which content you wish to play. This will insert a placeholder that will call up any media
that was programmed for this location.
If the Player has no media programmed then this placeholder will be ignored and the next item
in the playlist will be shown.
Suggested uses
Wayfinding - You have multiple players located in the same group and you schedule the same
content across all player screens with the occasional media that is specific to each player based on
their location. For example, the screen near the lunch room could show an arrow pointing towards
the entrance while another screen elsewhere on the same floor would show an arrow pointing to a
lounge or other area.
Location based advertising - You have players installed in a store across various departments
and you are showing common programming. You can show location specific media in each
department using the technique described above. For example, you could play a fishing video in
sporting goods, fashion advertising in women's apparel, or any other media based on the player's
physical location.
Assigning a ticker
Tickers can be assigned to any playlist.

Whenever one or more tickers have been assigned they will be
shown each time this playlist is scheduled.
If you have already published tickers (in the published folder) the
assigned tickers will simply be added to the published ticker.
Assigned tickers will be displayed before any published tickers for
the duration of the playlist (Assigned tickers are shown first
followed by any published tickers). When the playlist with
assigned tickers ends, only the published tickers will be shown.
To assign a ticker to a playlist, you click the Assign Ticker button
in the playlist area.

This will open the Assign Ticker pane where you can drag and drop tickers from the Content window.
When you return to the previous view (showing media in the playlist) you will notice a number in
bracket will appear after the Assign Ticker button.
This number indicates how many tickers have been assigned to the playlist. Click the text and you will
access the assigned tickers.

Planning your schedules
Playlists must be added to the scheduling grid to be played by the Players.
When a playlist is added to the planning grid, it occupies a specific area that represents it's scheduled
duration. This is called a "time slot".
Double-clicking on a time slot in the of the planning window opens the item's properties. You may also
right-click the time slot and select "Properties".
Zooming the scheduling window

By default, the Schedule window shows a 24 hour, 7 day grid however you can zoom in to see more detail
in the grid.
To do so, position the mouse cursor anywhere on the screen and use the mouse's scroll wheel to zoom in
or out.

You will have two options. You can program by start/end time or program by the number of loops of
the selected playlist.
If you pick the number of loops, the software will calculate the end time automatically based on the
duration of the playlist and the start time selected.
Copying schedules
You schedule your playlists on a day-by day basis.

To repeat one day's schedule you right click in the open area within the day you wish to copy (selecting
the Copy option) then right click on the next day and select the Paste option. All the day's scheduling
will be copied into the selected day.
To fill in the entire week with one day's programming, simply repeat the process until the week is filled.

The method described above is great when you only want to copy the scheduling from day to day within the
same week.
If you just want to duplicate a single playlist time slot and not the entire day's programming, right-click
on the time slot and select Copy / Paste.
Duplicating schedules
There are two methods you can use to program your scheduling for periods exceeding the current week:
You can duplicate a day's schedule or an entire week for as long as you want. Scheduling can be
programmed over entire weeks and months with a few mouse clicks.

DUPLICATING ONE DAY'S SCHEDULE

To duplicate a given day's scheduling over a long period, you proceed as follows:
Right-click in the open area within the day you wish to copy (selecting Duplicate > Current Day) and
the Duplicate Planning Items window will open.
On the left you can select which time slots you wish to duplicate. By default all the day's time slots will
be selected.
On the right you enter the dates for which this programming will apply.
Don't forget to click the "Replace existing playlist/time slots..." box if you want to replace any existing
scheduling during the selected period. If you leave this box de-selected, the current time slots will be
added and overlap any existing scheduling. Thy will not simply replace the existing scheduling.
Click Ok to confirm your selection and copy the scheduling.

DUPLICATING AN ENTIRE WEEK'S SCHEDULE

To duplicate a full week's scheduling over multiple weeks or months, you proceed as follows:
Right-click in the open area within the day you wish to copy (selecting Duplicate > Current Week) and
the Duplicate Planning Items window will open.

On the left you can select which days you wish to duplicate. By default the entire week will be
selected.
De-selecting Every Day will let you select each day you wish to duplicate the scheduling for. When
selecting individual days, you also have the option of selecting individual time slots in the day. There
is virtually no limit to the combinations of days and time slot selections that you can make.
On the right you can enter the dates or the number of weeks and days for which this programming will
apply.
Don't forget to click the "Replace existing playlist/time slots..." box if you want to replace any existing
scheduling during the selected period. If you leave this box de-selected, the current time slots will be
added and overlap any existing scheduling. Thy will not simply replace the existing scheduling.
Click Ok to confirm your selection and copy the scheduling.
PLEASE NOTE! You can duplicate a week's programming for a maximum of 12 weeks at a time.

Deleting schedules
Users can delete schedules according to the following pattern:
Current day
Current week
Period
To delete your scheduling, proceed as follows:
Right-click in an open area either on the specific day (or any weekday if you want to delete the entire
week's programming).
Select the type of deletion you wish to perform. Remember this cannot be undone so you must
confirm the action.

When selecting delete Period, the following window will open:
Select the date or time range to delete and click Ok to confirm. This process cannot be undone so
proceed with caution.
Merging playlists
Whenever you overlay (or stack) multiples playlists within the same time slot, Navori QL will merge together
their content according to the rules you select.
The default merging rule is called Merge Sequentially and works as follows:
The content of each playlist will be played in sequence for as long as there is a time slot overlap.
For example, all the content of playlist #1 will play followed by the all the content of playlist #2 and, if
present, all the content of playlist #3 (you can only overlap 3 levels).
The process starts again from the top of the first playlist until there are no more overlaps.
The second type of merging rule is called Reorder as Selected.
When selecting this option, only the number of items selected in the current playlist will play as part of
the merged content.
For example, Lets say you select 6 items and there are 8 items in your first playlist, only the first 6
items will play and then we switch to the next overlapped playlist.
If the next playlist is set to Merge Sequentially, all of its items will play. If it is set to Reorder as
Selected, only the number of selected items will play and we return to the top playlist.
On the next pass the last 2 items will play followed by the first 4 of playlist #1, and next we will play the
items in the second playlist according to its merging rule...
Merging options are accessed by right-clicking on each playlist time slot and by selecting Properties >
Merge Options.
You can layer up to 3 playlists and set the merging rules as required but the default behavior is to play all
the items in each playlist in succession.

Here is a visual description of the process:
Right click on any overlapped playlist and select Properties.
The first Merge Option (Merge Sequentially) is the default option whenever there is an overlap.
The number (in gray) under # Media will show the number of media items in the currently selected
playlist. In this option, you cannot edit this value.
With this option selected, all the content of the currently selected playlist will play in its entirety before
moving to the next overlapped playlist.
There are no settings you can change here other than selecting the Reorder as Selected option.

Selecting the second option (Reorder as Selected) lets you go one step further and specify the
number of items you want to play from this playlist during the overlap.
The number under # Media will show the number of media items in the currently selected playlist. With
this option selected you can edit the # Media value.
This is how you specify the number of items you want to play from this playlist during the overlap.
Any settings you change here will apply for the duration of the overlap.
Triggering media
Users can now trigger media items in the content library from external devices (motion or RFID sensors,
fire alarms, merchandise stock levels via POS systems and more).
Using the Navori Trigger SDK, users can develop their own trigger applications to launch any media or
playlist from any QL Player.
When properly configured, any third party application installed on the Navori QL Player PC can retrieve
information from the Player's database and eventually trigger the playback of any preloaded content and
playlists.
Your third party application can also trigger an IPTV stream which is not currently referenced in the Navori
QL Player database.
Typical uses for the Navori Trigger feature:
Launch a specific media item or playlist when a RFID tag or motion is detected by external sensors.
Tie-in your Navori QL software to a retail POS system and trigger content based on promotional prices,
stock levels, weather conditions, etc...
Link your Navori QL software to a fire detection system to alert viewers in case of fire or other
emergency.
Create a campus alert system to deliver urgent messages like evacuation alerts to students and staff.
Police and government officials can send out city/state/national alerts very efficiently by triggering any
content at a moment's notice.

The Trigger SDK

The Navori Trigger Software Development Kit (SDK) is offered as an option since version 1.0.0.20.
Users can use dll files that are included with the Trigger SDK with any .NET compatible languages
such as C#, Visual Basic .NET, C++/CLI, etc...
The Trigger SDK enables to play any media, HTML or video stream on the fly . It basically comes with
a set of 5 functions that let you take control of QL Player's playback at any time.
QL Player is delivered with an application that lets you manually trigger content on the player. This
application is called ThirdPartyTestApp.exe and you will find it in the QL Player root folder. You can
use this application to test the feature by triggering content on any player that has the Trigger add-on
installed.
The source code sample (C#) for this application is delivered with the SDK that you can download from

Navori provides support for the trigger feature. Trigger support is charged at a rate of $399 per hour.

For the Trigger system to work you require two components: The Navori Trigger SDK and the QL Player
Trigger Add-On.
To confirm if you have the QL Player Trigger Add-On activated on any player, proceed as follows:
Double-click on a player's name or right click and select Properties > License Information.
In the table on the right you will find every module installed on your player. To the right of Trigger
Media you should see: Activated.
If you purchased the QL Player Trigger Add-On and you do not see it activated, contact your Navori
partner.

Trigger folders in QL Manager

Once a user has QL Players with the Trigger add-on enabled they will see a new set of folders appear in
their QL Manager under the Content Library window:
Under the Trigger header you will find two new folders: Published and Not Published.
To add a media to be triggered, you either cut and paste it from your existing media library (Media &
Templates) or you right-click in the Trigger > Published / Not Published folder and select New >
Media / URL / Template / Video Stream / TV Feed.
You can add multiple media or template items to the Published folder and they will be shown in
sequence once triggered.
Moving media or template items to the Not Published folder will prevent them from being triggered.

User management
This section covers how you create user accounts and assign users domains.
User account hierarchy

The graphic below illustrates the user account hierarchy in Navori QL:
Essentially, a domain is a "view" of your network of Players. A domain can include one or more groups
and sub-groups. A user that has been given access to a domain will only be able to access the group(s)
and sub-group(s) that were assigned to that domain. If this user has Administrative privileges he or she will
be able to create sub-domains, essentially granting access to portions of their assigned domain. They may
give access to the group, a single sub-group, multiple sub-groups or a mix of both.

Since each level (group/sub-group) also carries its own content library, it is often useful to grant access to
the group as well as the sub-group so the user may access content that has been saved at the group level.
QL Server Administrator
This is the account assigned to the person who will be in charge of managing and administering the QL
Server application.
There can be only one QL Server administrator per installation.
This account is created automatically when the software is installed and the credentials are provided in
the software delivery email sent out by the Navori Extranet.
The QL Server administrator is automatically notified by email whenever a new version (patch) of the
QL software is available and ready to download/install.
The Server Administrator's contact information is retrieved from the Navori Extranet and this cannot be
modified in the QL Server application.

Beginning with version .29, QL Server Administrators can access their account settings via MENU >
Tools > Manager Account.
Domain/Sub-Domain Administrator
This is any administrator with an account assigned to any domain or sub-domain.

An administrator assigned to a top level domain can access his/her entire domain and sub-domain tree
structure without restriction.
Since this is an administrator account, this person can create and assign sub-domains. They can also
create and manage user accounts.
An administrator can create multiple domain/sub-domain administrator accounts. There is no limit to
the number of domain/sub-domain administrator accounts your server can support.
An administrator can create multiple user accounts. There is no limit to the number of user accounts
your server can support.
Regular User
This is any user with an account assigned to a group and/or sub-group. Once assigned this user
cannot access any of the other groups or sub-groups on the network.
A root-level user can access the entire group and sub-group tree structure without restriction.
Since this is a regular user account, this person cannot create/assign domains or create/manage user
accounts.
Assigning domains and sub-domains

Navori QL uses a simple yet sophisticated system to manage user access. Administrators can grant or
deny access to groups or sub-groups by creating domains.
Once a domain has been created, the administrator will assign the groups and sub-group it will contain.
Domains can have one or more users and any user account associated with the domain will share access
to its group/sub-group structure.

Here is how a group level administrator can create a domain and assign it to users or
other administrators
1. Access the Create/Assign User window.
2. The user domain window will open. This is where you assign groups and sub-groups to domains.
This is also where you assign users to domains.
In the example below, we have the ROOT domain (called Server in this example) visible on the left.
This is the topmost level in your server's domain hierarchy.
Any users created at the root domain level will have access to the entire group/sub-group
structure defined on your server.
You should usually only create top level administrators at this level.
There is nothing preventing you from assigning regular users to the root domain, but if you do so you
will not have any means to restrict their access to specific groups or sub-groups.

3. To restrict access to users, you must first create a domain. Next you must assign the group(s) and
sub-group(s) to this domain. The last step is to create new user accounts in this domain.
Users accounts that are assigned a domain can only see the group(s) and sub-group(s) it contains.
To create a new domain, simply right-click on the Root (In this case, Server) and select New.
Give this new domain a name. For this example we will call the domain MoviePlex.

Clicking the new domain name will select it. The list of groups and sub-groups in the middle window
will collapse.
You must select the Show all groups box to view the entire group/sub-group structure so you can
make your selection.

You will notice check-boxes to the left of each group and sub-group name on your server. Check-off
the ones you wish to assign to your new domain and then click Save.
You have now created a new domain. Right-clicking in the Add /Select User window will let you add
a new user.
All the users assigned to the currently selected domain will have access to all of its groups and subgroups.
If your assign your new user an Administrator profile, he or she will be able to create users and assign
sub-domains to these users.
However, the domain level administrator cannot assign groups or sub-groups outside his or her
domain.

In the example above, an administrator assigned the MoviePlex domain would show up as follows:

groups and sub groups:
1. Access the Create/Assign User window.
2. The user domain window will open. This is where you assign groups and sub-groups to domains.
This is also where you assign users to domains.
In the example below, we have the MoviePlex domain visible on the left. This is the topmost level for
this domain hierarchy only.
Any users created at the root of this domain will have access to the entire group/sub-group structure of
domain.
They cannot see other groups or sub-groups on the server unless a higher level administrator has
given them access.

3. To restrict access to users, you must first create one or more sub-domains. Users assigned to subdomains can only access the group and sub-groups you assign to them.
Using the same example, you could create a sub-domain called New York and assign it the New York
sub-group and nothing else. Users assigned to this sub-domain would "see" a higher level group but
they won't be able to access it. They will not see any other sub-group.
It is important to remember that each level has its own content library. If you wish to let your subdomain users access content at the group library above their level, you must give them access as part
of their sub-domain otherwise they can't access that content library.
4. To create a new sub-domain, simply right-click on the Root (In this case, MoviePlex) and select New.
Give this new sub-domain a name. For this example we will call the domain New York.

Clicking the new domain name will select it. You must select the Show all groups box to view the
entire group/sub-group structure so you can make your selection.
Selecting New York - Times Square only will restrict this sub-domain users to just that sub-group.
They will not have access to the MoviePlex Cinemas group above.

NOTE: You can edit domains and sub-domains at any time. Once your edits are complete, users will
see the changes next time they log on using their account.
You have now created a new domain. Right-clicking in the Add /Select User window will let you add a
new user. All the users assigned to the currently selected sub-domain will have access to its group
and sub-groups.
In the example above, a user assigned the New York sub-domain would show up as follows:

In conclusion...
Any type of user account (administrator or regular end user) that is created at the root level of the
server will have access to the entire group/sub-group hierarchy.
Only root level administrators can assign top level groups to a domain.
Administrators accounts that are created in a domain can create their own sub-domains and assign
users accounts to them.
You can have any number of user accounts created at each domain and sub-domain level.
You can make changes to a domain or sub-domain at any time. Users assigned to these domains and
sub-domains will see the changes next time they log on.
A user can only see the groups and sub-groups that have been assigned to his domain or sub-domain.
They cannot see other groups or other sub-groups.
Since each level (group and sub-group) features it's own content library, you must be sure to provide
access to the domain if you want sub-domain users to have access to content that is stored at the level
above their assigned sub-group.
Otherwise they will only have access to their own sub-group content and nothing else.
With the introduction of multi-level playlists, it is important to understand how playlists behave as you
move from one level to the next. User access is now an integral part of this function. Click here for a

Adding a user
Each person granted access to the Navori QL Server must have his or her distinct user account. Each
account must have a login and password.
To create a new user account, you click on the MENU icon in the upper left hand corner and select
User Management > Create/Assign User.
If you have been granted sufficient user rights, you will be able to create new users within your
assigned domain.
In the example below we have a root domain and two user created domains.
You must create a new domain for your new user and then assign the groups and sub-groups they can
access.

To create a new domain, right click on the root and select New.
You name your new domain.
Next, you select the new domain and then select each group and sub-group you wish to grant access
to.
You do not have to check off all the levels to grant access to a sub-group nested several levels down
from the top group. Just check off the nested sub-group and make sure nothing else is checked off.

You may grant access to multiple groups and sub-groups for any given user.
PLEASE NOTE! Click SAVE your selections before you exit. When you do so, you will see the
group/sub-group tree collapse indicating the selection was saved. You may now add users to your
new domain.
To add new users, right-click in the Add / Select User pane and select New to begin the user account
creation process.

You begin by filling in the user's contact information.
Next, you assign an expiry date to the account (default account duration will be set to 3 months), login
and password.
You also have the option of enabling IP restriction for this user. This means the server will only accept
incoming login requests from the specific IP addresses that you specify.
PLEASE NOTE! Use of wildcards (*) is permitted beginning with version .18 so you can enter an
IP range like 258.22.*.* instead of listing each individual IP address.
Default is to not restrict logins to specific IP addresses.
For example, you can force a user to login from your premises and nowhere else (for security reasons).
You may also enforce a storage quota to each user. If no storage quota is entered, the user will have
no limit imposed on his data storage.
You must assign profiles to every users. You have a series of options available from the pull down
menus.
PLEASE NOTE! Select the user type "Default" for most users who need to access the QL Manager's
complete interface. Selecting "Feed Only" means the user will only have access to the Data Feed
Manager and nothing else.

By selecting the proper rights and profiles you can create accounts for content administrators, creative
staff, network managers, technical staff, etc...
You may also configure this account to receive automated alerts and event notices via email.
The user will be added to your list. You must click Confirm to record the group and sub-group
selections before closing this window.
Adding a Restricted user (Feed Only)

You can create a restricted user who can access the Data Feed Manager and nothing else. We refer to
this a "Feed Only" user account.
Only QL administrators can create new user accounts. To create a Feed Only user account, proceed as
follows:
1. Select MENU > User Management > Create/Assign Users.
2. Select the Domain to which you wish to assign this new user account. If there are no available
domains, you can create one by following these instructions.
3. Follow these instructions to create a new user account.
4. Make sure you select user Type: Feed Only

5. Click Ok to complete the process.
Once logged in, this Feed Only user will see a simplified interface:
This type of account was created so casual users can quickly access the Navori QL system and update text
messages or other similar information in a template or ticker.
The user can only access the self-hosted data feeds in the group or sub-group to which they were
assigned.
The user can edit or add new items to the table, they simply select a feed from the pull-down menu and
then click in the desired cell and type their content.
Clicking the OK button at the bottom of the screen will save the changes and automatically update the
information on the Player's screen.
PLEASE NOTE! In order for this process to work properly, the following steps must have been be
performed:
1. Someone with normal end-user or administrator access must have created a server hosted data feed.
2. They must have created a template or ticker that uses the data feed in question.
3. The template or ticker must be scheduled/published and playing on the QL Players.
Once these conditions are met, the data feeds will appear on your screens and the Feed Only user will be
able to maintain the text displayed on screen.
The Feed Only user cannot change the graphical content, they have no access to playlists, planning or any
other aspect of the Navori QL software. They can only modify text in existing data feeds to which they
have been granted access.

This user can also refresh the data feed by clicking the refresh button in the interface or by selecting MENU
> Refresh.
When the work is completed the user can close their web browser window or select MENU > Log Out.
HANDY TIP!
Data feeds are read and displayed on the player screens from the top of the table down. Once the player
gets to the bottom of the table, it reads the first line again and the process repeats itself until there is a
change in the table.
If you leave an empty line at the top of the table, the Feed Only user can enter text in these cells and this
information will be posted on the player screens when they click the Ok button.
The information in the top cells will be the shown first so you can leave the top one or two lines empty most
of the time and whenever you need to post an urgent message you simply type it in the topmost cells to
ensure the message is shown immediately on screen. If you were to type the text at the bottom of the
table, the player would need to display all of the cells above before getting to it.

Accessing the Server Manager account

Upon installation, Navori QL is configured with a default Server Administrator account (also referred to as
the Manager Account). The account login name is Administrator and the default password will have been
included with your software delivery notice. This user has unrestricted access to all the software's features
and has the ability to create new User Right Profiles,User Alert Profiles and Event Profiles. This user also
has access to the Server Properties and will receive automated notifications when new software versions
are delivered so they can be installed.
Group-level Administrators can apply the profiles created by the Server Administrator but they cannot
create or edit them.
You can modify the Server Administrator Account via MENU > Tools > Manager Account.
The Server Administrator will appear under Create/Assign User at the top of the user list of the server's
root domain.

Users can be assigned a wide range of rights and privileges in Navori QL via user rights profiles.
Rights profiles are created and defined by the root level administrator. Group level administrators can
select from a list of predefined user rights profiles but they cannot create any new profiles. They can only
access profiles that were created by the root level administrator.
The software is installed with a few profiles already defined for you (administrator, end-user, power-user
etc...) and root level administrators can add as many profiles as they wish. In return, group level
administrators will be able to select and apply these rights to the user accounts that they create.

will not play until it has been activated by a user with the right credentials.

Alert Profiles

What are alerts profiles?

Alerts are generated any time there is an issue that can affect a player.
There are 3 modules that run on a PC Player: Navori QL Player (the playback engine), QL Conductor
(monitors communications and QL Player) and QL Guard (monitors QL Conductor).
If an issue is detected, QL Manager will display a status update in its interface. The status indicator is the
player selection box to the left of its name.
The indicator will change color to show the status of the player:

Red alerts trigger email responses from the server. Also, the alert will be recorded in the status reports
where you can retrieve more information about the problem.
Users receive notification based on their assigned alert profiles. For example, a network administrator
may want to receive technical alerts and a content manager may want to know if a media isn't playing for
some reason.
By assigning the right profile to each user, Navori QL administrators can direct the alerts to the right
person.
Creating a new alert profile

It is important to note that while group and root level administrators can assign alert profiles, only root
level administrators can create and delete alert profiles.
Here is how a root level administrator can create a new alert profile.
Select Menu > User Management > Alerts.
The Alert Notification Profile window will open. Click + to create a new alert profile.

o Trigger an alert if:

No Player Heartbeat Within Last: An alert will be triggered if a Player fails to report
back to your QL Server within the time you specify in this field. You can specify the
interval in hours, minutes and seconds.
Download Error: An alert will be triggered if a Player fails to download an update.
Data Feed Not Available: An alert will be triggered if a data feed used in a template or
ticker (RSS or XML) is no longer available.
Playback

Abnormal Player Shut Down: An alert will be triggered if a Player crashes.
No Content Scheduled: An alert will be triggered if there are no playlists scheduled in
the planning grid. If someone deletes all programming (by mistake) the default media
would be shown and nothing else.
Content Skipped, Playback Impossible: An alert will be triggered if a Player has
difficulty displaying any content.
System

Player's Disk Space Falls Below: An alert will be triggered if a Player storage
threshold is reached.

Events are generated and tracked on a continuous basis.
Users receive player event notification based on their assigned event profiles.
For example, a network administrator may want to receive technical events and a content manager may

person.

It is important to note that while group and root level administrators can assign event profiles, only root

3. Select the player you wish to update. You can select multiple players.

You may perform a player search by name, location or category.
Deferred player updates

Updates can be sent in two ways. You can send the update to your players immediately or you can defer
the update to another day and time.
This is useful for example when you need to send large updates to players that have limited bandwidth.
This way you can take advantage of times when there is less Internet traffic.
If Send Update > Now is selected, the server will send the update right away.
If Send Update > Deferred is selected, the server will send the update at the time and date of your
choosing.
NOTE: You can override a deferred update at any time by sending another update before the deferred
date and time.
If the update is to be processed now, the server will send an update and your deferred update will no
longer be valid.
If the update is deferred it will override the previously scheduled deferred update.

You can also use this technique to stop an update that is already in progress.
Lets say you send a very large update by mistake (several HD videos for example) and you wish to
stop the update right away.
Simply send another update with a different playlist. This will immediately stop the current update and
replace it with the new update/content.
Download status
The progress of your downloads to each player can be seen in the Status column.
You will see as each player downloads their updates via progress bar and will be notified when the
download is completed.
Important considerations when you don't plan to update Players often

By default, QL Players will display content for a period lasting up to 20 days and if no new updates
are received, QL Player will start showing the default media content.
If no updates are sent after 20 days, the player will display the default media content assigned in its
Player Technical Profile and an alert will be recorded (Yellow status).
Any recorded alert can be reviewed in the Monitoring window (select the player, click the Monitoring
tab, click the line showing the player status and a report of recorded alerts will be displayed).
To remove the default media from the screen and return to the scheduled content, you must send a
new update to this player.
PLEASE NOTE! If you do not send any updates to a player within a 20 day period, the default media will
be displayed on the 21st day and remain on screen until you send an update.
This applies even if the Player has scheduled content stored on its hard drive past the 20 day period.
If you do not plan to update your players frequently (less than once every 20 days), you can extend the
range in the player's settings by modifying a setting in the Player Technical Profile under the Planning
tab.

Open the Player Technical Profile window (Menu > Tools > Player Technical Profile).
Select the player profile you wish to modify.
Select Planning.
Use the up and down arrows to edit the number of day's worth of programming the player should
store.
Click Ok to confirm.
All the players that share this profile will now retrieve programming based on the number of days selected
in this window.
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
If you do not plan to send weekly updates, you may want to increase the Planning value. There is no
exact setting we can recommend as the optimal number will depend on several factors (number of items in
your playlists, complexity of your programming, etc...). In many cases, you can extend the Planning value
to 30,60 or even 90 days with no negative impact on Player performance.
However, Navori QL lets users copy their programming for blocks of 12 weeks at a time so it's not
necessary to go over 90 days.
Update type
Updates can be processed by the player in two ways.
If Restart Playlist is selected, the player will restart the playlist from the beginning as soon as it has
received an update from the QL Server (this is the default value).
If No Media Interruption is selected, the player will receive the update and process it in background
and the currently running media will continue to play uninterrupted.

GPS Trigger add-on

This section covers how to configure and use the GPS Trigger add-on.
About the GPS Trigger add-on

The GPS Trigger add-on is designed for mobile digital signage applications.
It's primary function is to allow a user to create and manage a series of automated announcements that are
played out when a bus approaches a predefined stop, however the GPS Trigger add-on is also useful for
taxi cabs or other types of mobile applications that require location awareness to trigger content. COntent
can be an audio file or an image.
Technical Requirements:
Each vehicle must be equipped with:
A mobile PC with a GPS tracker.

A copy of Navori QL Player that has the GPS Trigger add-on enabled.
Once a Player has had the GPS Trigger add-on activated, a new menu option will appear in QL Manager
under Menu > Tools > Maps & GPS Trigger.
You must have at least one Player with the add-on activated for this menu to appear in QL Manager.
Usage:
Once all of the technical requirements have been met, the system will operate as follows:
The system will start tracking the location of the vehicle along it's route.
A preprogrammed media file will be triggered each time the vehicle approaches a designated waypoint.
In most cases, this will be an audio file that will announce an upcoming bus stop but it can also trigger
image if the vehicle is equipped with flat panel display screens.

For the system to operate properly, users must set a range or "action area" for each waypoint in Navori
QL Manager. This ensures the content will be triggered before the vehicle arrives at the designated
location.
PLEASE NOTE: For the purpose of this document, the terms "waypoint", "designated location" and "bus
stop" are all interchangeable. When you add a new bus stop in Navori QL Manager, you are in fact
designating a GPS waypoint on a map.
The GPS Area Manager

The GPS Area Manager is where you designate your waypoints and assign which media will be triggered
when the vehicle arrives at each location.
To open the GPS Area Manager window, select Menu > Tools > Maps & GPS Trigger.
The GPS Area Manager window is divided in the following areas:

1. Map area (uses Google Maps with all is functionality. You can zoom in or out, use the map or satellite
view, etc...)
2. The Bus Route Search field and pull-down menu.
3. The Bus Stops list.
4. The Content to Assign search field and list.
5. The Assigned Content list.

Creating a new Bus Route

Using the GPS Area Manager, users create bus routes and assign one or more stops (waypoints) where
content will be triggered.
There can be multiple routes and each can have it's own list of designated stops and assigned content.
To create a new bus route, proceed as follows:
Select Menu > Tools > Maps & GPS Trigger. The GPS AREA MANAGER window will open.
Click the plus (+) button located right of the pull down menu under Bus Route.
The Bus Route window will open.
You must assign a descriptive name and unique alpha-numeric code to the new Bus Route. Click OK
to confirm your entry when you are done.

You may now proceed and add a new Bus Stop.
Adding waypoints
Each Bus Route can be assigned one or more waypoints (Bus Stops).
Users can add a new waypoint by entering an address in the Map Search area or by scrolling and
zooming the map until the location is visible on screen.

Since the GPS Area Manager uses Google Maps, you can select Map, Satellite or Street View to identify
locations where you wish to assign waypoints.

Once you have identified where you wish to assign a new waypoint, click its location on the map. This will
place a flag on the map that will correspond to the your new waypoint.
Don't worry if you make a mistake and need to reposition your waypoint. Simply click the flag and hold the
mouse button down as you reposition it.
When you let go, the flag will be dropped in its new location.
Each waypoint can contain the following data:
Descriptive Name for this waypoint

Internal Reference Code (your own internal reference)
Waypoint Latitude (this information is automatically entered for you according to the location you
clicked on the map)

Important considerations when laying out a bus route:

When laying out a bus route in the GPS Area Manager, you should add one waypoint for each bus stop
and this includes stops in both directions.Otherwise your audio announcements will play for the routes in
one direction but no the other.
What is the Action Area

The Action Area is a range that is assigned to each waypoint.
The default range is 100 meters (roughly 328 feet) and you can modify this value in the waypoint
information window which you access by clicking on a waypoint flag on the map.
The value can only be assigned in meters.
How does the Action Area work?

The media item assigned to the waypoint will play anytime a vehicle equipped with the Navori QL GPS
Trigger is within the Action Area distance (also referred to as the range from the waypoint).
Assigning content to a waypoint

The most common type of media you can assign to a waypoint would be an audio file.
This could be as simple as a prerecorded announcement to alert passengers of an upcoming stop (ex:
name of bus stop, subway station, point of interest, etc...). Any Navori supported audio file can be used
(MP3, WAV), in fact all audio files part of the selected Group's Content Library will appear in the Content
to Assign list on the right side of the GPS Area Manager window.
In the event your mobile application also uses flat panel screens, you will be able to trigger images as well
as audio files.

To assign an audio file to a waypoint, proceed as follows:

1. Select the waypoint to which you wish to assign an audio file from the list under STOPS.
2. Right click on the audio file you wish to assign and select Assign to current bus stop.
3. Repeat for each waypoint in the route.
YOU MUST SEND AN UPDATE TO YOUR PLAYERS TO COMPLETE THE PROCESS. Only then will
the players be able to retrieve the audio files, store them locally and start playing the content as the vehicle
approaches each waypoint.
Technical details
The GPS Trigger add-on relies on the Navori QL Positioning application.
This application uses the NMEA protocol to read GPS location data from a PC's serial port.
By default, the application will use the COM4 serial port at a baud rate of 9600 bps. However, these
settings can be modified by the user.
To do so, proceed as follows:
Locate and edit the file named "NavoriQLPositioning.exe.config". By default, this file will be located
on the Player PC in the QL Player application folder.
Using Windows Notepad, edit the following parameters:

Upon launch, NavoriQLPositioning retrieves the Bus Route's name from a file named BusLine.xml
(this file is located in the application's folder). This file is required so the application can retrieve the
waypoint list from the database.
BusLine.xml is formatted as follows:

The Name parameter in this XML file must match exactly what was entered in the Name field in the
GPS Area Manager. Note this field is case sensitive.
NavoriQLPositioning functional details
The application monitors the BusLine.xml file in real-time so it can react to any waypoint/route
changes.
The application assumes the vehicle starts from the first waypoint in the list (waypoint 0). If the vehicle
starts from another location, the application will enter path recovery mode.
The application waits for the next waypoint in the list and starts playing the assigned audio file when
the distance to the waypoint is within the predefined range set in the Action Area of the GPS Area
Manager (100 m by default).
Once the vehicle has passed a waypoint and started moving towards the next one, the application
stops playing the current audio file and waits until it comes within range (Action Area) of the next
waypoint. This process repeats for as long as the application is running.
Sometimes, waypoints will be located very close to one another. Such is the case when one waypoint
is assigned to one direction and the other is for the opposite direction of the same route. So the
system must be able to determine if waypoints are placed along the same direction or if they are on
opposite direction of any given route.

In order to determine the route direction, the application applies the following logic:
o If the latest waypoint reached is in the proper sequence (1, 2, 3, 4...), the system determines
the waypoints are all in the same direction. In the example above we see this happening
between waypoints 8, 9 and 10. Since these 3 waypoints are in sequence, the system can
determine they are in the same direction. Each time the vehicle passes one of these
waypoints, the application resets it's current position and is now ready to trigger the next
designated media as it approaches the next waypoint.
o If the waypoint reached precedes the one before, the system will determine they are each in an
opposite direction. In the example above, waypoint 2 precedes 15 so if the vehicle is on the
last part of the route, driving back to it's origin point, the system will detect the second waypoint
and determine it is in the opposite direction. It will then remove it from it's list of waypoints that
have been reached.
o This process is called "path recovery mode". It allows the application to recover from a loss
of position in case the vehicle did not start from the first waypoint, or if the GPS device had lost
it's signal while the vehicle passed the station that was expected. By applying this logic, the
system can recover determine in which direction the vehicle is moving along it's predetermined
path.
It is important to note that the NavoriQLPositioning application is in permanent communication with

NavoriQLConductor. Each time the Player has retrieved new location data from Navori QL Server,
an event is triggered in NavoriQLConductor and the NavoriQLPositioning application is reset.
One important note. Make sure Action Areas (ranges) of two close waypoints do not overlap as this
could cause the wrong announcement to be triggered. This is a rare occurrence but still it is best to
avoid these situations.
GPS Trigger and normal playlist content

In certain cases, users may only want to play audio announcements but it's important to know this does not
exclude scheduled media displayed on a flat screen. GPS triggered media can play simultaneously as
normally scheduled content so vehicles equipped with screens will show both scheduled and triggered
content while other vehicles without screens will only play GPS triggered audio announcements.
The GPS Trigger Add-on does not interfere with normal digital signage content that is scheduled and
played on the same Navori QL Player.

Using the MF Feed Parser Service

The MF Feed Parser Service is an optional add-on that works with the Micros Systems Inc OPERA Suite
which is used in many hotels and convention centers.
The MF Feed Parser Service parses room schedule information from Micros/Opera software and exports it
as a series of Global and Per-Room XML files that Navori QL can use.
Software requirements: OPERA Suite PMS/Sales & Catering version 5.0.x

This application works exclusively within a LAN or a WAN and must be installed on the computer hosting
the QL Server software.
Using this technique, any information in the Micros OPERA Suite can be extracted and displayed on your
QL Players in real-time and the process is fully automated.
REQUIREMENTS
Before you can proceed, you will need the URL or network path that points to the XML file generated by the
system. This XML file will be usable in QL Manager's Template Designer and Ticker Designer.

Creating Player Technical Profiles

Each player on your network must be assigned a technical profile.
Technical profiles were designed so users can apply a common set of technical parameters to many
players at a time, such as:
Player's screen power settings: sleep mode scheduling. If no setting set for the week, screens will
not be controlled by the application.
PLEASE NOTE!!! This feature is currently not supported in Windows 8. To manage your
screen's sleep mode scheduling under WIndows 8 you must use the Navori Screen Schedule
Service. This service will let you send RS232 commands to your screens so you can put them
in sleep mode and wake them up according to the Technical Profile. You can download this
service via the following link (note the file contains all necessary software including the
installation and user manuals):

Default media file: content that will be shown on the player's screen if nothing is scheduled (assuming
the screens are turned on or "awake").
Software updates: how to deal with player updates, check periodically for updates and run updater
unattended.
Date - Time sync: if player is to synchronize its clock with the server's.
PC Reboot: players automatically reboot every day. You must set at what time you wish this event to
take place.
Purge unused content: if player is to perform a periodic audit of stored media and purge any files not
part of a current or future schedule.
Playback reporting: at what interval player is to upload its reports back to the server (default setting is
every hour).
Player storage threshold: if player is to alert users when free hard drive space falls below a
predefined level.
Planning: specify the number of day's worth of content the players can download and store at one time
(default is 20 days but you can change this setting here).

You can create as many profiles as you need by clicking the (+) button and then configuring each
parameter as required.
Once your profile has been saved, it will appear in the Player Properties > Technical Profile window.
PLEASE NOTE!
1. It is important to "stagger" the times for each programmed event. For example, setting the Player
update download time to midnight means you should set the automated player update to take place at
least 15 minutes later. Next, make sure the player does not synchronize its clock at the same time it is
performing another task. As a rule, you might want to program each task at a 30 minute interval.
2. Player Technical Profiles can only be created or edited by the root level administrator (Navori QL
Server Administrator). Users who have been given the right to access the Player Properties will be
able to select from any available player profile but they cannot create a profile from scratch.

Navori QL Player Windows

This section covers the Navori QL Player application for Windows based PCs.
Player Properties
Navori QL Player properties are accessed via Navori QL Manager in the Player window.
To open the Player Properties window, navigate to the desired player and right click on its name then
select Properties.
NOTE: You may also access the Player Properties by double-clicking on the Player name.
General
The General tab shows information about the physical location of the player hardware and the contact
information of the person in charge of this PC.
At the very least, each player must be assigned a Name, a Country and a Technical Profile.
However, we highly recommend you also fill in the other fields as this will make it easier to trace back
which PC goes which license.
Also note Navori QL Player reports back the Windows playback resolution (desktop settings) in this tab.

Player PC.
The Product Name, Version Number, Serial Number, Activation Date and Expiration Date fields
cannot be edited. This information is provided automatically by the system.
o PLEASE NOTE! Beginning with version .24, software version numbers now include a
suffix which identifies if the license is for QL Player Windows or Android.
Version numbers ending in ".100" indicate a Windows Player license and numbers ending in
".200" indicate an Android Player license.
o The Player's Serial Number is used to activate your QL Player licenses upon installation. You
can copy and paste this number in the appropriate field when requested by the Player installer.
If you want to type the number, remember to include all spaces and dashes or the serial
number will be rejected.
Note that any add-ons not purchased will be listed as non-activated in the Status column.
Technical Profile
The Technical Profile tab shows information about the Player PC itself.
You may create one or more profiles that you can later apply in the Technical Profile tab. These are
meant as a time saver when deploying multiple players as you don't have to re-type the same
information over and over.

Location Specific Content

As a rule, all the players within a group share the same playlist and scheduling so if you want to display
different content within the same group of players you must use the Location Specific Content feature.
Here are some examples of what you can achieve using this feature:
You have 4 players in a department store and all the Players are in single group. Each player is
located in a different department, let's say Men's Wear, Electronics, Sports Apparel and Ladies
Fashion. Since all the players are managed in a single group, they all share the same playlist and
scheduling. By using the location specific content feature you can assign individual ads to each player
at different intervals within the same playlist. The player in Men's Wear can display an ad for suits while
the player in Electronics can display an ad for a home theater receiver, and so on...
You want to display directional information on multiple players in a group based on their physical
location. For example, you have displays in an office tower and you want to indicate the location of
each elevator (north, south, east, west...). Since all the players are managed in the same group, they
all display the same mix of information and advertising but by invoking location specific content in the
playlist, each player can display unique information specific to their own location. The player near the
North Elevator can display a graphic that points to that elevator, and so on...

Categories
The Categories tab is used to assign categories and sub-categories to each player. By tagging players
with these categories we can select players across groups and sub-groups.
Categories are used to select players for monitoring, reporting and updating. You use the Search box
in these windows and enter the category (or sub-category) to search for.
In the example below, we created a category called Outdoor. We can also create other categories
and give them names like "indoor" or any other name that we wish to search.
You can also create sub-categories in the second drop-down field and use these terms for searches..
By using this technique, we could select all Outdoor screens regardless of which group or sub-group
they are located in.
We can send updates or perform proof of playback searches for all these screens via the Playback
Reporting window.
Use of categories is optional but as your network of player grows, this feature can be very useful when
you need to quickly select a specific set of player.
Categories and sub-categories can be tagged with the criteria of your choice.
In the example above we used the screen location but you could specify any criteria that is relevant to
your application (like screen orientation or format for example).
USB Player Updates

Navori QL version 1.0.0.30 users who purchase the USB Update add-on can now update their Windows
based QL Players via USB storage device. This is ideal for users who deploy players in locations where
Internet or network access is unreliable, unavailable or not practical. For example trade shows, elevator
cars, geographically remote locations, etc...
Requirements:
Users must first purchase the USB update add-on for each player they wish to update via this method.
Contact your local Navori office or distributor for more information about purchasing this add-on.
Once you have purchased the license add-ons, you will receive 2 files: Navori USB Update.exe and a
software key file unique to each QL Server (this is the software activation file).

Using the USB Player Update application

NOTE: Make sure both files are in the same folder on your working PC.
Insert a USB key into your PCs USB port.

Launch the Navori USB Update application by right clicking on the file name and selecting "Run as
Administrator".
The code in the Connection Key folder should match the text in the QLExportKey.txt file.
Click the Activate link and the IP or URL of your Navori QL Server will appear in the field below.
Type in your Administrator login name and password.
NOTE: for security reasons, you cannot use the default Navori QL admin password (VD29330) as this
will not work.
Select the player(s) you wish to update via USB and browse the location of the USB key.
Click Export.
Once the export process has completed, a new window will appear to confirm. Click OK and remove
the key from your working PC.

Insert the USB key in the Player PC to update it.

NOTE: The Player PC must be running QL version 1.0.0.30 and have the USB Update add-on
enabled.
Updating Server Data Feeds via USB

Navori QL users who have purchased the USB Update add-on can also perform QL Server data feed
updates via USB drive.
The process works as follows:
The Data User will see a new option in the MENU pull down menu (USB Zip).
Clicking this option will open a new dialog box. Select Save File and then OK.
The data feed file will be automatically created and saved in your browser's Download folder. The file
will have a ".dat" extension.
Copy this file over to a USB drive.
To update the data shown in your template or ticker on your screen, simply plug the USB drive into
your Windows QL Player.
o Note 1: This process only works for QL Server Hosted Data Feeds.
o Note 2: This menu option is only visible to Data Feed User accounts once the feature has
been enabled for the server.

3. Conditions of SUPPORT AND MAINTENANCE.
3.1. Terms of Maintenance. Navori agrees to provide Maintenance (as defined herein) to You pursuant to
the terms and conditions set forth herein provided that You pay the Maintenance Fee (as defined herein)
for each Product for which Maintenance is required and as further described in Section 3.4 below.
Maintenance will be provided for a period of one year, unless otherwise agreed to by the parties in writing,
from the date of purchase of the Product (the "Initial Support and Maintenance Term"), and with renewals
("Subsequent Support and Maintenance Term" and together with the Initial Support and Maintenance
Term, the "Support and Maintenance Term"), annually from the expiration date of the prior Support and
Maintenance Term. Failure to renew annual maintenance may result in You having to purchase a new
license in order to receive future versions of software and associated ongoing support and maintenance.
3.2. Maintenance Services. In exchange for the annual Maintenance Fee, Navori agrees to provide to You
during the term of this Agreement support and maintenance (collectively "Maintenance") as follows:
3.2.1. Support: Navori will provide Online support to You for current versions of the Product. Navori will
investigate and respond to all of Your reasonable questions and problems promptly. You agree to provide
adequate information to Navori to assist in the investigation and to confirm when problems have been
resolved. Navori does not provide a guaranteed response time but will make good faith efforts to answer
emails and voice mails within twenty-four (24) hours or less during weekdays, excluding all holidays.

3.2.2. Maintenance: Navori will supply to You any improvements, software updates that Navori makes
generally available. Any such improvements or modifications shall become part of the Product for all
purposes of this Agreement.
3.2.3. You acknowledge and agree that the Maintenance to be provided by Navori hereunder is limited to
the most current version of the Product and the immediately preceding version.
3.3. Exclusions. Navori's obligation to provide Maintenance is contingent upon proper use of the Product
and full compliance with this Agreement. Moreover, Navori shall be under no obligation to provide
Maintenance should such services be required due to (a) failure to operate the Product within the systems
requirements provided for the Product (b) any modification or attempted modification of the Product by You
or any third party contracted by You or Your failure or refusal to implement Product changes
recommended by Navori.
3.4. Consideration. In payment of the Maintenance services to be provided by Navori hereunder, You shall
pay Navori, or its authorized agent, the applicable fee for the Initial Support and Maintenance Term as
indicated on the related invoice, receipt, purchase order, or other ordering document ("Initial Maintenance
Fee") and the applicable fees for any Subsequent Support and Maintenance Term ("Subsequent
Maintenance Fee" and together with the Initial Maintenance Fee, the "Maintenance Fee"). At the end of
the Initial Support and Maintenance Term, or any Subsequent Support and Maintenance Term, You may
renew participation in Maintenance services for additional annual term(s) provided You (a) are current on
all payments due to Navori and (b) pay Navori, or its authorized agent, the applicable Maintenance fee,
which Navori, or its authorized agent, shall invoice prior to the end of the preceding term, unless terminated
by You at least 30 days prior to the expiration of the then current Support and Maintenance Term. In
addition, Maintenance shall be discontinued for any and all subsequent Support and Maintenance Terms
for which You fail to pay Navori the invoice within ten (10) days after the prior Support and Maintenance
Term expiration date.
4. PAYMENT TERMS. Unless explicitly set forth in this Agreement, all fees and other amounts due under
this Agreement are non-cancelable and non-refundable. Unless otherwise agreed to by the parties, You
shall pay all fees or amounts within 30 days of the date of the invoice. A late fee shall be charged on any
overdue amounts and any other fees and expenses not paid as provided under this Agreement will be
charged the rate of one and one-half percent (1%) per month, or the highest rate allowable under
applicable law, whichever is less, commencing with the date payment was due.
5. TAXES. The fees and all other amounts due as set forth in this Agreement are net amounts to be
received by Navori, exclusive of all taxes, duties, and assessments, including without limitation all sales,
withholding, VAT, excise, ad valorem, and use taxes (collectively, the "Taxes"), and are not subject to offset
or reduction because of any Taxes incurred by You or otherwise due as a result of this Agreement. You
shall be responsible for and shall pay directly, any and all Taxes relating to the performance of this
Agreement, provided that this paragraph shall not apply to taxes based solely on Navori's income.
6. CONSENT TO USE OF DATA. If Navori provides any support services to You, You agree that Navori
and its affiliates may collect and use all information You provided as a part of any such support services
related to the Product.
7. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS. Subject to the license grant hereunder, all right, title and
interest in and to the Product, the accompanying printed materials, and any copies of the Product are
owned by Navori and not You.
8. WARRANTY
8.1. Warranty. Navori warrants that for a period of 90 days from the date of delivery ("Warranty Period"),
under normal use, the Product will perform substantially in conformance with the specifications published in
any documents provided by Navori to You with respect to the Product. During such period, and as the
sole obligation of Navori and Your sole remedy under the warranty in this Section, if You provide written
notice of Navori's failure to comply with the above warranty, Navori will use reasonable commercial efforts
to correct such nonconformity in the Product as in accordance with the terms of the Maintenance and
Support Policy provided to You.
In addition, if Navori determines it is not commercially reasonable to correct the nonconformity, Navori may
elect to terminate the license to such Product. Navori will return within 60 days to You, all license fees (and
any unused support fees) paid to Navori by You for such Product. This warranty set forth above does not
apply to, and Navori shall have no obligation with respect to, any non-conformity arising as a result of (i)
use of the Product other than as specified under this Agreement and the related Documentation; (ii) any
modification or alteration of the Product performed other than by Navori or its agents, or (iii) transfer of the
Product to any computer system other than the ones on which Product is authorized to be installed, except

as permitted in this Agreement.

8.2. Disclaimer. Other than the warranty set forth in Section 8.1 above, and to the maximum extent
permitted by applicable law, Navori, its authorized resellers and its subsidiaries provides the Product and
any support services related to the Product ("Support Services") AS IS AND WITH ALL FAULTS, and
hereby disclaim all other warranties and conditions, either express, implied or statutory, including, but not
limited to, any implied warranties, duties or conditions of merchantability, of fitness for a particular purpose,
of accuracy or completeness of responses, of results, of workmanlike effort, of lack of viruses, and of lack
of negligence, all with regard to the Product, and the provision of or failure to provide support services.
9. LIMIT OF LIABILITY AND EXCLUSION OF INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL AND CERTAIN OTHER
DAMAGES. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL
NAVORI, ITS AUTHORIZED RESELLERS OR THEIR SUBSIDIARIES BE LIABLE FOR ANY SPECIAL,
INCIDENTAL, INDIRECT, PUNITIVE OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES WHATSOEVER (INCLUDING,
BUT NOT LIMITED TO, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF PROFITS OR CONFIDENTIAL OR OTHER
INFORMATION, FOR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, FOR PERSONAL INJURY, FOR LOSS OF PRIVACY,
FOR FAILURE TO MEET ANY DUTY INCLUDING OF GOOD FAITH OR OF REASONABLE CARE, FOR
NEGLIGENCE, AND FOR ANY OTHER PECUNIARY OR OTHER LOSS WHATSOEVER) ARISING OUT
OF OR IN ANY WAY RELATED TO THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE PRODUCT, THE
PROVISION OF OR FAILURE TO PROVIDE SUPPORT SERVICES, OR OTHERWISE UNDER OR IN
CONNECTION WITH ANY PROVISION OF THIS LICENSE, EVEN IN THE EVENT OF THE FAULT,
TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STRICT LIABILITY, BREACH OF CONTRACT OR BREACH OF
WARRANTY OF NAVORI, EVEN IF NAVORI HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH
DAMAGES.
9.1. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY AND REMEDIES. Notwithstanding any damages that You might incur for
any reason whatsoever (including, without limitation, all damages referenced above and all direct or
general damages), the entire liability of Navori, its resellers and their subsidiaries under any provision of
this Agreement and Your exclusive remedy for all of the foregoing shall be limited to the amount actually
paid by You for the Product. The foregoing limitations, exclusions and disclaimers shall apply to the
maximum extent permitted by applicable law, even if any remedy fails its essential purpose.
10. WHO YOU ARE CONTRACTING WITH, NOTICES, GOVERNING LAW AND JURISDICTION
10.1. General. Who You are contracting with under this Agreement will determine, who You should direct
notices to under this Agreement, what law will apply in any lawsuit arising out of or in connection with this
Agreement, and which courts can adjudicate any such lawsuit.

10.2. Manner of Giving Notice. Except as otherwise specified in this Agreement, all notices, permissions
and approvals hereunder shall be in writing and shall be deemed to have been given upon: (i) personal
delivery, (ii) the second business day after mailing, (iii) the second business day after sending by confirmed
facsimile, or (iv) the first business day after sending by email (provided email shall not be sufficient for
notices of termination or an indemnifiable claim).
10.3. Agreement to Governing Law and Jurisdiction. Each party agrees to the applicable governing law
above without regard to choice or conflicts of law rules, and to the exclusive jurisdiction of the applicable
courts above.
11. GENERAL PROVISIONS
11.1. Relationship of the Parties. The parties are independent contractors. This Agreement does not create
a partnership, franchise, joint venture, agency, fiduciary or employment relationship between the parties.
11.2. Waiver and Cumulative Remedies. No failure or delay by either party in exercising any rights under
this Agreement shall constitute a waiver of that right. Other than as expressly stated herein, the remedies
provided herein are in addition to, and not exclusive of, any other remedies of a party at law or in equity.
11.3. Severability. If any provision of this Agreement is held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be
contrary to law, the provision shall be modified by the court and interpreted so as to best accomplish the
objectives of the original provision to the fullest extent permitted by law, and the remaining provisions of
this Agreement shall remain in effect.
11.4. Attorney Fees. You shall pay on demand all of Navori's reasonable attorney fees and other costs
incurred by Navori to collect any fees or charges due to Navori under this Agreement.
11.5. Assignment. Neither party may assign any of its rights or obligations hereunder, whether by operation
of law or otherwise, without the prior written consent of the other party (not to be unreasonably withheld).
Notwithstanding the foregoing, either party may assign this Agreement in its entirety (including all Order
Forms), without consent of the other party, to its Affiliate or in connection with a merger, acquisition,
corporate reorganization, or sale of all or substantially all of its assets not involving a direct competitor of

the other party. For the purpose of this Agreement, an "Affiliate" shall mean an entity that is a subsidiary
entity of the other or two or more entities controlled by the same person.
11.6 This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between the parties with respect to the Products and
supersedes all prior written, oral or implied understandings between them on that subject matter. This
Agreement may be amended, modified or supplemented only by a writing executed on behalf of both
Parties.
11.7 The parties acknowledge that it is their express wish that this Agreement and all related documents be
