One and more than one.


Naming words can talk about one person or thing: girl, hand, cat , box. Naming words
can also talk about more than one person or thing of the same kind: girls, hands, cats,
boxes.
When we want to talk about more than one of something, we add s or es to the
naming word.

When we want to show that something belongs to someone or is owned by someone, we
use s.
Example : The girls bag was lost.
We are talking about the bag that belongs to the girl or is owned by the girl.
Look at these pictures:

We us an apostrophe () followed by s, when we show belonging or ownership.
Remember that just adding s to a naming word also means more than one. That is
why using the apostrophe is so important.
Look at these sentences.

2. This is my friends book. (Use an apostrophe.)

ACTIVITY ANIMAL PICTIONARY


Make an attractive animal pictionary and
enhance your vocabulary.

CAT (Pappu)

Read the story The Jungle Book. Collect


pictures of about 10-15 animals (including
birds) mentioned in the book. (Example:
Sher Khan Tiger; Mao peacock). Paste
them on A4 paper and write facts about
them. Use one sheet for each animal.
Arrange them in alphabetical order and
tie/bind the pages together. Your animal
pictionary is ready!
