Fashion is a popular style or practice, especially in clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, body or furniture.
Fashion is a distinctive and often habitual trend in the style in which a person dresses. It is the prevailing styles
in behaviour and the newest creations of textile designers.Because the more technical term costume is regularly
linked to the term "fashion", the use of the former has been relegated to special senses like fancy dress or
masquerade wear, while "fashion" generally means clothing, including the study of it. Although aspects of
fashion can be feminine or masculine, some trends are androgynous. The fashion industry is a product of the
modern age. Prior to the mid-19th century, most clothing was custom-made. It was handmade for individuals,
either as home production or on order from dressmakers and tailors. By the beginning of the 20th centurywith
the rise of new technologies such as the sewing machine, the rise of global capitalism and the development of
the factory system of production, and the proliferation of retail outlets such as department storesclothing had
increasingly come to be mass-produced in standard sizes and sold at fixed prices. Fashion trends are influenced
by several factors including political, economical, social and technological. Examining these factors is called a
PEST analysis. Fashion forecasters can use this information to help determine growth or decline of a particular
trend. The media plays a significant role when it comes to fashion. For instance, an important part of fashion is
fashion journalism. Editorial critique, guidelines, and commentary can be found on television and in magazines,
newspapers, fashion websites, Social network, and fashion blogs. In recent years, fashion blogging and
YouTube videos have become a major outlet for spreading trends and fashion tips, creating an online culture of
sharing one's style on a website or Instagram account. Through these media outlets readers and viewers all over
the world can learn about fashion, making it very accessible. At the beginning of the 20th century, fashion
magazines began to include photographs of various fashion designs and became even more influential than in
the past. Vogue, founded in the United States in 1892, has been the longest-lasting and most successful of the
hundreds of fashion magazines that have come and gone. Vogue is a fashion and lifestyle magazine that is
published monthly in 23 different national and regional editions by Cond Nast. The name Vogue means "style"
in French. The fashion industry has been the subject of numerous films and television shows, including the
reality show Project Runway and the drama series Ugly Betty. Specific fashion brands have been featured in
film, not only as product placement opportunities, but as bespoke items that have subsequently led to trends in
fashion. A fashion accessory is an item used to contribute, in a secondary manner, to the wearer's outfit, often
used to complete an outfit and chosen to specifically complement the wearer's look. The term came into use in
the 19th century. In fashion, a runway, catwalk or ramp is a narrow, usually flat platform that runs into an
auditorium or between sections of an outdoor seating area, used by models to demonstrate clothing and
accessories during a fashion show. A fashion week is a fashion industry event, lasting approximately one week,
wherein fashion designers, brands or "houses" display their latest collections in runway shows to buyers and the
media. The most prominent fashion weeks are held in the fashion capitals of the world, the "big four" receiving
the majority of press coverage being New York, London, Milan and Paris.
