PROPOSAL WORKSHEET TO USE IN CONVERSATIONS WITH TERRI

The current title of the essay I chose to rework for my Paper 1 assignment is
_________________________(tell us the title) If I had to summarize its contents in a
sentence, Id say its an essay about _______________________________ (tell us the
about the contents.) Right now, the essay is _______________ words long. The
original place this essay was submitted was
_________________________________________. I chose this essay to use because
________________________________________________________.

In class, we talked about the fact that most essays take the form of a narrative, an
argument, or a bit of both. Id say this essay reads like a
__________________________ (choose: narrative, argument or a bit of both.) The
reason I think that is because _____________________________________________.
Looking at the language in my essay, Id summarize its predominant
metaphor/analogy/message as follows:
_______________________________________.

If I had to critique this essay in terms of writing style or the thinking displayed
therein, Id say its predominate strength is

_____________________________________________. If I had to name a weakness

in its construction or argument, I think Id say:
____________________________________________________________.

In class, we talked about how a writers voice can be read as others as tone. In
this essay, my intended reader as __________________________________ (choose:
teacher, classmates, admission board, private self, etc.) I think this influenced things
like my choice of address, argument, language, pacing, and order of materials in
the following ways:
________________________________________________________________________
____________________.

For the re-done version of this essay, I can imagine different sorts of readers,
including my classmates, my professor, and even an older version of myself.
With regard to my voice, here are some things I think I still like, and would want
to keep the same (at least for now) :
____________________________________________________________. Here are
two things about my writerly voice I might consider experimenting with or even
changing for the next round :

________________________________________________________________________
______________________.

Im interested in redrafting this essay to make its metaphors richer and its line of
analysis more complex. Lately, Ive been interested in applying critical literature
about __________________ , ______________________ and ________________
(choose at least two: time, space, subject, markets) to this essay .

One concept/argument/idea I think might work well in my essay as a

springboard for deeper thinking is ___________________ s (name writer) notion of
______________________________ (name concept/argument/idea). In its simplest
form, this is the notion that
_____________________________________________________________ . Looking
over my essay, I realized I could apply this notion to
_______________________________________________________________ (name a
part of your essay where you might be able to apply the idea) in order to create new
questions for myself about ______________________(name an element of your essay
you think you might be able to complicate or make deeper by applying the idea youve
named) The reason I think this is
_____________________________________________ (give us a sense of your mental

process hereyou havent written anything, but you are thinking about writingtell us
about that thinking)

Although I wont really know what my new essay will become until I begin
writing it, I am hoping to craft something that takes the metaphors and messages
in my first essay, and uses critical thinking to ___________________________
(question/complicate/expand/deepen) them, by
_________________________________________________________ (try and name a
way you think you might be able to question/complicate/expand/deepen your essay, here.)
