NOTES :
*1.
Instructor availability: During the Summer Term Im teaching one online section. I am available by
appointment and would be happy to set a time to meet. I will also have office hours on Monday evenings from 6
p.m. to 8 p.m. unless otherwise announced. I will be traveling a few weeks this term and may hold office hours
electronically. In that case, I will be available by phone or in the moodle forums, but not in my office. The best
way to reach me is to send a note through the Moodle system or by texting me at the above phone number. I get
lots of spam in my regular e-mail account and your message may be missed. I try to check Moodle daily and will
get back to you no later than 2 days after I get the message. I also welcome calls and texts at the number above,
particularly if your question is urgent.
2.

Tips for success: Read this document and the course assignment schedule carefully. They contain
important policies you will want to know about for success in this course.
You must have regular and frequent access to a reliable computer with a reliable internet connection and
a working email account to participate in this course. Smart phones work for communication, but a
computer is needed for assignments.
Online communication with your classmates and your instructor are required and are essential for your
success in this course (see below).
Read the textbook chapters thoroughly and do assigned research and writing. Visit your course Connect
site and complete the online assignments.
Read and think about your course materials and assignment instructions, and keep up with assignment
and quiz deadlines.
Communicate regularly and respectfully with your instructor and other students.
Ask questions as needed and look for instructor feedback about your homework in your Moodle
assignment links.
Contact your instructor if you need help.

3.

Course Management: This course uses Moodle, a web-based program allowing registered students
to participate in the course using any computer connected with the Internet. Information about Lane distance
learning and a link to Moodle are available at http://www.lanecc.edu/distance/. You can also connect with
Moodle on Lanes main web page. If you are working on your own computer, you will want to bookmark the
Moodle page for easy access. The Moodle course site includes information about the required Connect web site.

4.

Communication: For success in this course, communication with your instructor and other students
is essential. You will be assigned to work as part of a team for a major course project, and you will be responsible
for regular communication with your teammates and for keeping them informed about changes in your email
address.
All communication in this course will be conducted in a professional and respectful manner.

Introduction to Business Online

Summer 2016

Be prepared to read and reply to email daily throughout the term. You probably will only need to e-mail
daily when a team project deadline is approaching but it is a good habit to get in to.
The quickest and most reliable way to communicate with your instructor is through Moodle system
above.
I read and reply to email typically very early in the morning (5-6 a.m.) and in the evenings after 8 p.m. I
also check e-mail and do the majority of the grading on the weekends and during office hours.
