Systems
Custom Insulated Steel Tanks
Highland fabricates and insulates steel tanks for a
wide variety of applications. Thermal insulation is
applied to tanks to help reduce energy costs associated with heating or maintaining heat in products
like heavy fuel oil, resins and asphalt binders. We
have multiple methods for insulating tanks depending on your specific requirements:
External Spray-on Insulation System
A complete 360 wrap of sprayed-on
insulating material (nominal thickness- 1.5")
A protective finish coating over the foam
insulation to prevent UV damage

Injected Insulation System


A complete 360 second wrap, steel skin
The interstice is injected with a special timeactivated foam insulating material that
expands to completely fill all voids and
eliminate air pockets.
External Batt with Jacket Insulation System
A complete 360 wrap with insulating batts of
mineral wool, fiberglass or ceramic material.
A complete 360 wrap with a 24-26 gauge
aluminum skin to ensure insulation integrity.
Options and Accessories
Aboveground UL-142 single or double-wall
horizontal and vertical designs.
Aboveground cylindrical and rectangular
design.
Underground UL-58 double-wall horizontal
steel design (Injected Insulation System only)
Steam, Hot Water and Electric heating
systems.
Manways, extra fittings, normal and
emergency vents.
Leak Detection, Level Sensing, Pumps and

External Batt - 4 per inch of insulation with a
variety of temperature resistance and moisture
barriers.
External Batt & Skin Insulation System

Injected or Sprayed on - 7 per inch of


insulation. Nominal 2" applied with top-coat
finishes available.

Horizontal Tank Design
Highland aboveground steel tanks provide superior
structural strength, product compatibility and durability for all your storage tank needs. Highland offers
a variety of industry-proven designs with single
and double wall options. Each tank is backed by
Highland Tanks team of professionals in design,
engineering, fabrication, delivery and service.
Highland aboveground horizontal tanks are available with or without supports to meet your requirements.
Highland tanks are constructed to be compatible
with the full range of petroleum products including
those with higher methanol and ethanol contents.

The UL Storage Tank Standards provide a long


history of construction dependability. In addition,
Highlands tanks meet or exceed the Federal
Environmental Protection Agencys regulations
for aboveground storage tanks for petroleum and
chemical products.

Each tank is constructed, tested, and labeled in accordance with Underwriters Laboratories Standard
for Safety for the Aboveground Storage of Flammable and Combustible Liquids UL-142.

Vertical Tank Information


Vertical Tank Design
Highland Vertical Storage tanks provide safe
storage using the least property square footage.
Available in both carbon and stainless steel,
Highland Vertical Tanks for the storage of flammable
and combustible liquids bear the Underwriters Laboratories UL 142 Label. Highland Vertical UL 142
tanks can be specified with a flat, coned, or dished
top and can be manufactured to a maximum vertical
shell height of 35'0".
Highlands Atmospheric Vertical Tanks are an ideal
solution for storage of a wide array of liquid products. Quality and reliability were designed into these
tanks with long-term service as our primary goal.
API650, Appendix J construction is also available.
