To ensure safe operation of the entire optical path, the laser safety
shutdown must be activated and
the automatic cyclical laser start
must be disabled.
Even with this safeguard, fiber-optic cables which are open at one end should always be considered to be live.

Blei-Gel-Batterien verwendet. Lithiumund NiCd-Batterien dienen fast ausschlielich zu Back-Up-Zwecken beim
flchtigen Speichern von Daten auf
Baugruppen. Diese Batterien werden wegen der zum Einsatz kommenden geringen Kapazitten zu den Gertebatterien
gerechnet.

Hardware Requirements
SMA1K-CP Synchronous Multiplexer
Requirements
The SMA1K-CP Synchronous Multiplexer is to be mounted in a rack (if applicable).
The required interface cables are to be connected:
- Power supply
- User data (line and tributary)
- Craft terminal NCT or LCT (only required for configuration settings,
alarm display etc., see below)
- Possibly LZE and / or ZBBeo
The Commissioning Manual ITMN has been used for successful commissioning of
the SMA1K-CP.
If not all the required conditions are met, please note the corresponding instructions in
the Commissioning Manual ITMN.
3.1.2
An NCT or LCT craft terminal is only required for installation, configuration changes,
maintenance of the SMA1K-CP and for alarm monitoring and/or quality monitoring. For
ongoing user data transmission in the SMA1K-CP, the NCT or the LCT is not absolutely
necessary and can be removed.
In principle, both a laptop and a desktop PC depending on the software used can be
used as NCT or LCT. In general, for reasons of suitability, the above-mentioned allocation in 3.1.1, Requirements is selected.

The program start and start-up takes place automatically after the SMA1K-CP has been
connected.
The existing software state can be updated by File Transfer (software download).
The software is splitted into different components.
The software package is delivered on a CD-ROM.
The skindex.txt file contains information about the required hardware / software correlations.
This file is also stored in the VCDB.
Attention:
After performing a Reset NE-VCDB, this file must be reloaded. (The NE reports
SW incomplete when the LCT is opened.)
When the hardware is replaced / upgraded, the software checks the hardware data
and requests additional software, if required. (The NE reports SW incomplete
when the LCT is opened.)
When the software is upgraded, always all components are updated.

7.1.2
Alarm Severities
Depending on the significance of the alarm messages and the alarm severities assigned
to them, they trigger different reactions. A minor fault which, for example, has the effect
of degrading the transmission data (increased bit error rate) usually has no significant
effect on operation; for this reason, it results in a non-urgent alarm message. In contrast,
major faults can cause a service interruption and therefore result in an urgent alarm
message which requires immediate fault clearance.
Help The basic alarm severities - correlated with the alarm names - are explained in
the online help system of the SMA1K-CP application software: <Help> <Help
Topics...> <Index> <Alarm List>.
The Bw7R priority levels are explained in Tab. 7.3.
7.1.3
7.1.4
Alarm Suppression
With alarm suppression, specific alarms or all the alarms generated by the network element can be masked out on the user interface of the operating terminal.
7.2
7.2.1
The Bw7R alarm indication equipment and the LEDs (see Chapter 7.2.5) enable faults
and malfunctions to be contained even without an operating terminal.

Signaling Voltage +S
The +S signaling voltage is fed in from an external source via the non-grounded +S connection. It supplies power to the relay contacts of the LZE interface.
The signaling voltage level is between 10.5 V and 75 V, the maximum load carrying
capacity is 100 mA, the maximum switching power is 60 W. The signaling voltage is independent of the devices operating voltage.
There is no S signaling voltage at the SMA1K-CP.

8.1.1
A42022-L5927-B53-1-7619
If there is a light signal equipment LZE, you can easily assign the alarm to a specific rack row.
73
OGL
Operation
SMA1K-CP-3.3
With the aid of the card / battery alarm indication LEDs at the SMA1K-CP, assign the alarm to a specific SMA1K-CP. For basic details on the LEDs of the
SMA1K-CP, see Chapter 7.2.5.
By referring to the alarm tables in the on-line help, identify the alarm and initiate
the appropriate procedures in order to eliminate the fault.
Acknowledge the alarm via the LCT: (red-colored functional group symbol)
<Fault> <Acknowledge>.
This has the effect that newly signaled alarms can be displayed again by the
fault indication LED.
The possible display states of all card/battery alarm LEDs are listed in Tab. 7.5.
8.1.2
8.1.3
Raised alarms are listed in the general Alarm List window: <Fault> <Alarm
List...> <Current>.
In the Function View main window, you can discern the relevant functional
groups by the red color of one or more of these symbols.
With the right-hand mouse button, click on the red-colored functional group
symbol or module symbol and select the menu item [<Subview...>] <Fault>
<Alarms...>.
By referring to the alarm tables in the on-line help, identify the alarm and initiate
the appropriate procedures in order to eliminate the fault.
8.2
74
In addition to the general information given in this chapter, also refer to the Remedial Action columns in the on-line help alarm tables. They contain specific
instructions regarding fault clearance.

Check the electrical connectors to ensure that they are fully engaged and that
none of the pins is distorted.
Check the optical fibers and optical connectors according to the instructions given in Chapter 2.3.2.
Check the cable layout (copper and optical fiber) in accordance with the wiring
diagram.
Before replacing the SMA1K-CP hardware which is suspected of being defective, try to reactivate the SMA1K-CP by means of a hardware reset (e. g. switching off and on the power supply), but do not do this if the red fault-indication LED
on the front is illuminated.
8.3
i
You may disconnect the power supply to the SMA1K-CP at any time without
making any special preparations to the equipment (for example by disconnecting those fuses from the rack fuse panel which are assigned to the particular
SMA1K-CP).
When the power supply is restored, the SMA1K-CP will start up automatically.

Preceding Measures
Amending Undefined Software or Hardware Processes
Software or hardware processes running in an undefined way may cause even a faultfree device to indicate a fault status.
9.1.2
So, before replacing any hardware that you suspect of being faulty, first attempt to get the SMA1K-CP operating correctly again by performing a warm
start: press the RT key and if the problem is not yet solved a cold start
(switch off and on again the power supply).
