UAA Students Setup Guide


Below is an overview and a step by step guide set by UAA eLearning concerning RPNow
proctored exams. These directions have been set in place to ensure a smooth experience for all
students interacting with RPNow. Questions can be directed to the eLearning office at

RPNow is contracted through the University of Alaska Anchorage. All University and Federal
guidelines, including FERPA and HIPAA, are upheld in this agreement. All recorded materials
are securely stored as documented in the contract.

Testing Pre Check List


Please review the RPNow: Student Policy and Procedures and UAAs Student
Code of Conduct.
Students will need a valid University of Alaska, state I.D., or drivers license to take
the exam.
a. Student will receive a zero for the assessment without proper identification.
Retrieve all approved exam materials prior to beginning the sign in and verification
process for RPNow. The instructor will make exam handouts available within
Blackboard.
a. Approved exam materials/resources will be communicated to the student by the
instructor.
Testing Environment and Etiquette
Students will be responsible for removing, clearing and covering up any non-approved
testing materials.
Students must test in a private setting isolated from others. Testing in public is
prohibited unless in an individual study room within the library.
To use of RPNow will require a computer or laptop (Windows 7 + or MAC 10.8 +
OS), microphone, webcam, and a stable internet connection.
a. RPNow will record and review audio, video, and desktop screen captures to
proctor the assessment.
Drinks and food are not permitted with the exception of non-alcoholic beverages.
a. All labels must be removed from beverages.
Breaks are not allowed. Students may not use the restroom once the exam begins.
With the exception of UAA Blackboard, close down all website tabs and applications
before downloading RPNow.
Scheduling Your BIOL A288 RemoteProctor Practice Test
Log into UAAs Blackboard
a. Students will use their UAA username and password
b. Once logged in, underneath courses find and select BIOL A288
c. In the BIOL A288 menu
i. click on Midterms and Final Exam
ii. This will open a window that features exam information. Locate and
open the folder called RPNow Practice Test. This includes a practice
exam and a link to the RPNow website students will be using.
iii. Press RPNow Student Setup, Blackboard will redirect to the RPNow
site.

2. Downloading RPNow
a. RPNow will give students an option to Play a Video or Download Software.
i. We encourage students to watch the video first.
b. After watching the video, press Download Software and open the retrieve and
open the download.
i. When asked Do you want to run this file? Chose Run.
ii. It will take a moment to verify the internet connection and ask students
to disable multiple screen setups.
c. Set by step Remote Proctor Now Instructions will open separate from the
browser.
i. Read these and select next.
d. RPNow Microphone Check
i. RPNow will verify that there is a functioning microphone.
3. RPNow Exam Information
a. The student will be prompted to provide the name of the instructor, pick the
exam and complete the Test Taker Information. Click next when finished.
b. A Pre-Exam Advisory will appear next detailing how the assessment will go.
The first screen explains how the student will be monitored and recorded. The
second screen will present the exam guidelines.
4. RPNow Interview
a. The student will need to hold up their identification card to the camera.
b. Next, do a full scan of the room
i. This will need to verify the following:
1. The test area is void of restricted items
2. All approved resources/materials are neatly laid out
3. There is nothing on the walls or floors
a. Underneath the keyboard or table
4. Ensure there are no prohibited test items. Review the footage
and press Confirm Room/Desk Scan.
5. The testing area is clearly visible in the room scan recording.
c. Students will need to capture a clear image of their identification card and their
self.
d. After the interview process, UAAs Blackboard will reopen.
i. A Start Exam screen will appear acknowledging the student has 5
minutes to start their exam.
1. Students will have to redo the RPNow download process if they
exceed this time limit.
ii. Log back into UAAs Blackboard with your username and password.
iii. Navigate back to the BIOL A288 course exam within the Midterms
and Final Exam menu option.
iv. Press Insert Exam Password at the top of the screen.
1. Press submit on UAAs Blackboard.
a. Contact the instructor if the password is incorrect.
Taking, Completing and Submitting Exam

While taking the exam, abide by the RPNow: Student Policy and Procedures and the
guidelines mentioned above.
Failure to adhere to the policy will result in investigation, disciplinary actions, and or
termination of the exam.
After completing the exam submit it. RPNow will not conclude its monitoring and
recording until the student exits out of it.
Student should allow anywhere between 5 to 90 minutes for their exam data to upload
to RPNow.
Note, it will take at last 3 5 business days to review exams flagged for rules
violations or suspicious behavior.
Grading of the exam and posting of the results will reside with the instructor.
