MONSOON WATCH
· South-west Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of south interior Karnataka, entire Tamilnadu
some parts of Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh, entire southwest Bay of Bengal and most parts of
central of Bay of Bengal.
· The northern limit of Monsoon (NLM) passes through Lat.12.0°N/ Long.60.0°E, Lat.12.0°N/Long.70.0°E, Kannur,
Bangalore, Cuddapah, Bapatla, Lat. 17.0°N/Long. 85.0°E, Lat. 20.0° N/Long. 92.0°E, Agartala, Dhubri and
Gangtok.
MAIN WEATHER OBSERVATIONS(Recorded during past 24 hours)
· Fairly widespread rainfall has occurred over northeastern states, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim,
Himachal Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Kerala, south interior Karnataka, south coastal Andhra Pradesh. Andaman &
Nicobar Island and isolated over coastal Karnataka, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir. Chief amounts
of rainfall in cm (≥ 3 cm) recorded at 0830 hours of today are: Kailashahar, Madurai, Salem, Nancowry,
velparai-6 each Agartala-4, Hasan, Tuni, Bhuntar, Amritsar, Silchar and Lengui-3 each.
Synoptic features (based on 1430 hrs IST)
· The cyclonic storm “PHET” over northwest Arabian Sea remained practically stationery lay centred at 1430
hours IST of today, 5th June 2010 near Lat.24.5 °N and long. 61.0°E, about 120 Km southwest of Jiwani
(Pakistan), 600 Km west-southwest of Karachi (Pakistan), 300 Km northeast of Sur (Oman) and 800 Km
west-northwest of Naliya (Kutch, Gujarat).
· The western disturbance over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir persists.
Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) Guidance
· The cyclonic storm “PHET” over northwest Arabian Sea off Makaran coast would weaken further and move
east-northeastwards and cross Pakistan coast near Long. 64.0°E by tomorrow forenoon, the 6th June, 2010.
· The western disturbance would affect northwest India during next 2 days.

· A fresh western disturbance would affect northwest India from 7 onward.
Satellite Observations:
· KALPANA–1 Cloud imagery at 1430 hours IST shows convective clouds over parts of northwest & southeast
Arabian Sea, north & southeast Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea. Low/medium clouds are seen over parts of
northwest, west & central India, northeastern states, south Peninsular India, Orissa and Chhattisgarh.

Major features of weather forecast (upto 1430 hours IST of 08 June 2010)
· Widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over northeastern states.
· Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Lakshadweep, Kerala, coastal Karnataka and
Andaman & Nicobar Islands, scattered over interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema and Tamilnadu and isolated over
coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telengana.
· Scattered rain/thundershowers would occur over western Himalayan region, Gujarat state and Konkan & Goa.
· Isolated duststorm/thunderstorm would occur over Rajasthan during next 24 hours and increase thereafter.
· Isolated duststorm/thunderstorm would occur over Punjab, Haryana and Delhi during next 48 hours and increase
thereafter.

· Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and isolated over
rest east India and Uttar Pradesh.
· Maximum temperature would fall by 2-4°C over parts of northwest and west India.

Warning
· Sea condition will be rough to very rough along and off north Gujarat coast and adjoining north Arabian Sea
during next 12 hours. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea off this coast.
· Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur over Assam & Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh during next
48 hours.
· Thundersqualls may occur at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar,
Jharkhand, West Bengal & Sikkim and Orissa during next 48 hours.
Weather Outlook (upto 1430 hours IST of 10th June, 2010)
· Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Kerala, Lakshadweep, coastal Karnataka, northeastern
states and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
· Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over parts of northwest India and Maharashtra with isolated
heavy falls over Rajasthan.
