1. What do you think is the reason for the author to mention "The cost of a kWh not
supplied because of an outage is much higher than the cost of a kWh that is supplied when
needed"?
In normal operation the electrical system has costs associated it like operator, supervision,
cleaning, etc. When an outage is present costs increase due use of other equipment and extra
labor operations, this just talking about energy utilities.
Nowadays government protect consumers, since loss of many companies must be addressed
by utilities. A kWh not supplied implies a downtime of any equipment and faults witch should
be research some time by other companies increasing cost of kWh not supplied.
2. To your point of view and using your own words, explain about the impact on electrical
systems when having poor power quality.
Have a poor PQ is a reliability problem, because its very difficult to know about maintenance
and critical decisions in a plant or process. Designs are expensive because a lot of protective
equipment is required.
3. Detail 2 examples related to economical losses due to poor power quality.
Like first question the cost of a kWh not supplied is higher than one is it, this cost is taken by
consumers creating a chin to increasing cost of production and final products.
Repair costs and corrective maintenance many time is taken by government and it is not
solvent by self so needs a tax increase that affect major of population.
4. To the author, which are the most significant phenomena requiring power quality
mitigation?
Interruption in deregulated environments
5. What do you understand for downtime impact?
It is a cost of an inoperative system, plant or equipment which must be taken in order to
operate a integral system
