HOW TO REPLACE YOUR EMV WITH AN AFTERMARKET

AUDIO SYSTEM AND KEEP YOUR FACTORY VOLUME

CONTROL AND CLIMATE CONTROL

1. DISCONNECT YOUR BATERY AND Remove your old EMV and tape deck from the dash.
2. Remove emv from vertical mounting brackets
3. There is 3 plugs on the back of the tape deck (I) (G) (H) as indicated on the wiring diagram,
You will need to modify wiring on plug (G) and piggyback off plug (H)
On plug (G) cut the BLACK (1 ; Right+), WHITE (5 ; Right -), RED (2 ; Left +), BLUE (6 ; Left-) as
close to the plug as possible.
Using the loom from your new head deck attach and solder the wires as below BLACK -> GREY
WHITE -> GREY/BLACK
RED -> WHITE
BLUE -> WHITE/BLACK
if you are using a tablet or phone and require a 3.5mm jack only, cut the RCAs off a 3.5mm
to RCD cord, attach and solder the wires as below
BLACK ->Red (inner core)
WHITE -> Outer core
RED -> White (inner core)
BLUE -> Outer core

On plug (H) you will need to strip back some insulation from the cable BUT DO NOT CUT IT!!!
You will need to strip wires; GREY (3 ; +12v Accessories), BLUE/YELLOW (4 ; +12v Battery),
BROWN (8 ; 0V Ground/Neutral/Earth/Negative) WARNING USE THE LARGE BROWN CABLE
IN PIN 8!! The smaller brown cable in pin 7 is for the screening of audio cables!! Using this
cable will result in buzzing/interference in your audio and will possible damage your new
head unit due to the cable being too small for the job intended.
NOTE if your new head unit has an orange (illumination) cable this can be connected to
GREEN (10 ; +12V Illumination)
Using the loom from your new head deck, attach and solder the wires as below GREY -> Red
BLUE / YELLOW -> Yellow
BROWN -> Black
GREEN -> Orange
Install your new head unit into the vertical mounting brackets. I had to drill new holes in the
mounting brackets to suit my head deck. FYI was able to use the original mounting screws from the
EMV on my new head deck as I lost the supplied screws that same with the unit.
4. Remove your rear seat and locate the RADIO RECIEVER + AMPLIFIER just below the front
passenger side of the seat.
The next step gets a little tricky!
5. Remove plug (B)and (E)( Note plug (E) is hidden down the side of the radio receiver towards
the middle of the car) from the radio receiver and remove the protective sleeve covering the
cables on both these plugs.
As close to the plug as possible, cut the BLACK, WHITE, RED & BLUE wires on plug (B)
Find the RED, WHITE, GREEN, BLACK wires on plug (E), DO NOT CUT THESE CLOSE TO THE
PLUG! you will need as much length on these as possible
6. Using the wires you just cut, attach and solder the wires as below (see attached image
also)
(B1)BLACK -> (E1)RED
(B5)WHITE -> (E5)WHITE
(B2)RED -> (E2)GREEN
(B6)BLUE -> (E6)BLACK
7. RADIO ANTENNA
You will have a couple option here. The easiest option is to buy an antenna extension cable
from Autobarn/Repco/super cheap auto or a car audio store.
Unplug the original antenna from the RADIO RECIEVER and run the extension cord under
the glove box and beside the shifter to your new head unit.
You will also have to hard wire the original power antenna to the ACC wire otherwise it will
never turn on again
To do this locate the BLACK/RED wire on plug (B) pin 6. cut this wire with enough length left

on the plug so you can tape/heat shrink the end as this is no longer used.
Attach the BLACK/RED wire to the GREY wire on plug (B) pin 3. This will turn on the power
antenna on whenever you turn your head unit on with the ignition key.
ALTERNATIVELY
I have used the now redundant TV antenna cable as my new head unit antenna cable.
Locate the tv antenna cable. It will run along the rear seat and up behind the side of the rear
passenger seat. Cut the cable where it begins to duck under the side of the rear seat.
Cut the end of the existing RADIO RECIEVER antenna cable and carefully attach and solder
the old TV antenna cable to it then follow the steps above to complete the install.
8. Once you have get all your wires soldered and heat shrinked/taped.
Re-connect your battery and turn your ignition to ACC.
Turn your existing volume know to half way, you will hear the hiss from the original radio.
Press the TV button on the TAPE DECK this is the input for your new head deck
Play some music on your new head unit/tablet/phone to test your work and set your volume
on your new head unit/tablet/phone.
Note if you have used the HI amplified output on your head deck you will not have to set the
volume very high at all HOWEVER if you are using the head deck RCAs, a tablet or a phone
you will need to turn the volume right the way up on your device.
9. Once you have tested all your work the last step is to either modify your old emv facia to
retain the climate control buttons or do a TT climate control conversion. You can find
detailed instructions on how to do this in the SOARER CENTRAL ARCHIVES.
I used a grinder and cut along the top of the screen then glued what was left of the left and
right buttons to the facia. Once the glue was dry I glued the facia to the dash surround.
When all the glue was dry I installed the climate control buttons back where they belonged
and put the dash back together.
I had a small gap (around 7mm) between the head unit and climate controls. Used some
foam with double sided tape from Clark Rubber to fill the gap.
