Answer:
We would like to hire a great manager for our Brunt Hotels in France. What a good opportunity
for working abroad and have a new journey for your job!
Support and develop staff so they can reach their full potential.
Ensure that all hotel buildings, fixtures and fittings are well-maintained in a proactive
manner.
(Activity E) You are a management consultant who must design a selection process for the
candidates. There is no budget limit for the development of the process; the senior
management team knows that it is important to get the right person for the job. However,
because the new hotels must be up and running quickly, they ask you to design a selection
process which will take a maximum of two days. You must present your ideas and be able to
justify why your method is appropriate.
In Day 1. We can give some case study to all candidates. We will see how they solve each
case. In this method, we can know who can solve any possible problems that can happen while
working in Brunt Hotel with efficiency and have a good time management. The main point
here is how to solve any problems especially while working not in home country. We can know
how they survive with any conditions when they are far away from home and face the new
culture in France.
In Day 2. We can conduct a basic knowledge test about French customs and cultures and their
interest in learning further about French.
(Activity G) The management team asks you to conduct Internet-based research to find out
what expatriate support services are available in France. You should create a list of the
services that are available and provide details of at least one organization which could
provide the services. These services should then be listed in order of priority for the
expatriates. You will present your ideas, so you should be prepared to justify your reasons
for prioritizing the services:
There are some services available for UK or non UK expatriates in France that might be useful,
as follows:
http://www.messageparis.org
Message is a support and contact group for parents and parents-to-be living in and around Paris. Message
is an English-speaking organisation but includes members, who speak English, from every corner of the
globe and all walks of life
http://www.britishassociation.info
The British Association Alpes Maritimes is a benevolent association, established under the French law of
1901, which provides welfare, social and general help and advice to British visitors/newcomers to, and
residents in the Alpes Maritimes.
http://ccb-lille.com
The Centre Culturel Britannique (CCB) is an independent voluntary organisation dedicated to providing a
warm welcome to all English-speaking residents wanting to make contacts in the Lille area.
Do you think Brunt Hotels should mostly hire expatriate or local managers? Why?
In my Opinion, Brunt Hotel needs to hire mostly Expatriate managers first, in Order to
redistribute the company values as well as taking control of the process of rebranding new
hotel so it would suit with the Company vision which at this point should be well
accommodated by the existing managers in UK. These managers know the culture of working
in Brunt Hotels, the strength and the weakness of Brunt Hotels, and what kind of issues that
frequently happen in any condition of customers and situations.
After placing those existing managers in France, they will also need to hire the locals. The
cooperation between the locals and expats will get a very good result in the future. Locals
know the culture of their home country and expats have much knowledge of working
especially in Brunt Hotels.. Expats may be more expensive than hiring the locals, since the
management needs to spend more money for tickets, visa, the raising of new salary for them,
etc. But it will get more results in the future and less expenses later on.
Which of the six managers (Case Study - Part Five) is most qualified to head the new
division? Why? Which training should they attend to complete their skillset?
The Manager with the best leadership skills as: strategic thinking, effective problem solving, good
communication skill, and best time management will be qualified to head the new division.
Besides language and culture training, they will need to deepen their knowledge of being a good
transactional Leader as they will head a new hotel branch in a new country so the process of
incorporating brunt values to the new employees will go smoothly and as well as developing a
healthy and conducive new working environment.
