ENDANGERED ECOSYSTEM

INTRODUCTION
ENDANGERED ECOSYSTEM
Large agriculture of forests are cleared for extracting timber of fuelwood ,
agriculture needs, and for the sake of urbanization. Theimpacts are enormous
and outrageous. Let see what are thedrawbacks of deforestation .

LANDSLIDES
soil erosion is blocked. Thus, water flows inland andcauses flash flood and
landslides.
When it rains for a long time especially during rainyseason, the top layer of soil
loosens and slides down ,thus causing landslides.
EROSION
leaning of trees causes the loss of tree leaves thatprotect the soil from a massive
impulsive force of heavyraindrops and also causes the loss of tree roots thathold
the soil in place
The wide exposure to the raindrops forces, give arise tosoil erosion. Here ,the top
layer of soil is easily beingwashed away by heavy rainfall. The eroded soil, is
then,deposited in rivers or streams.
FLASH FLOOD
During heavy rains, rainwater flows harshly into riversbecause there is a nonexistence of retention of waterby plant roots as well as proper water catchments
areas
Due to silting in the rivers, the water flow is blocked. Thus, water flows inland and
causes flash floods in lowareas.
In addition, soil erosion contributes in the depletion of minerals in the soil,
causing the land trouble to be usedas a place of cultivation.
FARMING
In order to full fill the demands of todays foodsupplement, large areas of lands
have been usedand will be used for farming purposes.
8.Excessive use of land for farming and stockrearing lead to infertile land and
may expose thesoil to erosion by wind or heavy rainfalls.
Inorganic fertilizers usage in farming also resultsto eutrophication.
URBANISATION

ndustrialisation give off industrial waste andheated waste water causing water
pollution andthermal pollution.

Toxic gases released by industries contribute to amajor concerning problem ; air

pollution.DEFORESTATION
Deforestation results in :
*
Soil erosion - Soil erosion is a naturally occurring process that affects all
landforms. In agriculture, soil erosion refers to the wearing away of a field's
topsoil by the natural physical forces of water (Figure 1) and wind (Figure 2) or
through forces associated with farming activities such as tillage.

*
Flash flood - Flash flood definition, a sudden and destructive rush of water
down a narrow gully or over a sloping surface, caused by heavy rainfall

*
Landslides - A landslide is the movement of rock, debris or earth down a slope.
They result from the failure of the materials which make up the hill slope and are driven by
the force of gravity. Landslides are known also as landslips, slumps or slope failure.

*
Changes in the recycling of materials - Recycling is the process of converting
waste materials into reusable objects to prevent waste of ..... Any changes to
which materials are recyclable is easy to accommodate as all sorting happens in a central
location. In

Severe climatic changes - hreats from long-term climatic changes which may be

linked to global warming and other severe climatic/weather events that are outside of the natural
range of variation, or potentially can wipe out a vulnerable species or habitat

The loss of biodiversity

Why ecosystem is important

Ecosystem Services are the benefits nature provides to human well-being. The
term is frequently thrown around in academic circles, but why should you care
about them?

Although the concept is quite new, our connection to nature is not. We depend
on nature for our survival without healthy ecosystems, our drinking water isnt
clean nor is the air we breathe. We also enjoy nature studies show that people
who spend time in nature tend to be happier than those that dont. It can even
act as a natural anti-depressant. With industry and urban sprawl expanding at

unprecedented rates, Ecosystem Services attempt to translate the benefits we

receive from nature into economic terms so we can better understand the tradeoffs we are making between nature and industrial development.
This brings me to the reasons why we feel Ecosystem Services are important to
each and every person:
