Some new faces greeted Kohler Schools students as they headed back to class on September 1. The September 1 issue of The Kohler Villager
featured new high school teachers. Below are the elementary teachers.

Jordan Scheuren

My name is Jordan Scheuren. I

grew up in the village of Kohler
and graduated from Kohler Public Schools. After high school I
attended Marian University then
transferred to Lakeland College
where I graduated with a bachelors degree in Early Childhood
(pre-k through 6th grade). During
my last semester of college I returned back to Kohler Elementary
School for my student teaching,
which was an absolute honor and
wonderful experience. This past
school year I taught at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in Sheboygan as
a rst grade teacher. It has been a
dream of mine to return back to
Kohler as a full-time elementary teacher, because Kohler Public Schools provide high-quality
teachers that are engaging, motivating, and ensure success for all
of their students, which is huge
part of my teaching philosophy. I
do not just say that because it is
part of the school mission statement, but because I have experienced these qualities as a student
and student teacher. It will be an
absolute honor to be a part of the
Kohler Public Schools community
again, but as a third grade teacher
this time around.

Hello, my name is Michael

Retzinger and I have been a
speech and language pathologist
since receiving my Masters Degree in Communicative Disorders
from the University of Wisconsin
River Falls in 1977.
I have extensive training, experience and aptitude for working
successfully to develop communication skills with non-verbal children and children presenting with
a wide range of speech disorders
in the areas of articulation, receptive and expressive language,
voice & uency.
I have worked in various elementary, middle, and high school
public school settings, out-patient
pediatric clinical settings and a
private practice setting.
I believe strongly in working
with parents and professional sta
in developing practical IEP goals
and implementing plans that insure a positive outcome for the
child in the school setting.
My greatest strength is building, establishing and broadening
positive therapeutic relationships
with the communicatively challenged student and working as a
team member to help my students
reach their communication skill
potential. I am pumped to be the
speech and language therapist for
the Kohler Public School District!

James Lautenschlaeger

Hello Everyone. My name is

James Lautenschlaeger. Most of
the students and sta at Kohler
call me Mr. L. while substitute
teaching the past two years. My
new position will be the Kohler
School District Library/Media
Specialist. I enjoy working with
students and sta in the Kohler Library. My belief is that every student should be valued and treated
with respect.
I grew up in New Holstein, WI.
After high school, I graduated
from UW-Stevens Point with a
Sports Medicine/Physical Education degree. I taught in Milwaukee Public Schools and Mayville
School District. After being a stayat-home dad, I have been working
on my Graduate Degree in Library
Science at UW- Whitewater.
My wife and I live in Belgium,
WI. We have one daughter and
three sons. Our family is very active in soccer, basketball, baseball,
shing, and running. I spend my
free time using technology and
reading.
I look forward to getting to
know all of you this school year!

Rikki Bruggink

My name is Mrs. Rikki Bruggink, and I am very excited to be

joining Kohler School District as
a new 3rd grade teacher! I come
to Kohler from the Oshkosh Area
School District where I taught 4th
grade for two years. I have also
previously done some short term
teaching in dierent parts of Africa. I graduated from University of
Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 2013 with
a bachelors degree in Elementary
Education. My husband and I currently live in Mt. Calvary with our
two dogs, Reggie and Turbo, and
our cat, Gizmo. On my free time
I enjoy being outdoors, shing,
horseback riding, and playing with
our dogs. I am looking forward to
getting to know the sta, students
and family at Kohler School District!

As Kohler Schools starts a new

year, drivers should watch for
school buses with ashing amber
and red lights. The amber lights
will ash rst as a warning that
the bus is preparing to stop, similar to a trac light. Drivers should
slow down when they see the amber lights. When the lights turn red
and a red stop sign on the bus is
activated, vehicles should come to
a stop. Be aware it is against the
law to not stop for a stopped bus.
The four amber lights (two in
front and two in back) were added to the existing four red light
system in 1968 by the Federal
Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
While many states adopted the
eight-light system during the
1970s-80s, Wisconsins adoption didnt take eect until August 16, 2016. A demonstration

Municipal Court partners with Department of Revenue to collect forfeitures

SHEBOYGAN, WI On Wednesday, August 31, 2016, the City

of Sheboygan/Village of Kohler
Municipal Court clerks prepared
4,277 letters to send to defendants
who owe money to the court for
unpaid forfeitures as a result of
ordinance violations. These letters inform defendants of a new
partnership between the municipal court and the State Debt Collection program (SDC), a part

of the Wisconsin Department of

Revenue, to collect past due forfeitures. Defendants are being
notied that they have 30 days to
pay their forfeitures before more
aggressive collection methods
will be employed. If a defendant
does not contact the court to satisfy their judgement within 30 days,
they may be faced with a 15% surcharge or a minimum of $35 paid
to SDC in addition to their forfei-

tures. Banks may also charge a fee

to levy funds from defendant bank
accounts. SDC is a State-run collection authority in which the fees
are passed back to the defendant
instead of the municipality. You

she is now implementing the program at her court to increase compliance with court orders. Judge
Torry was impressed to hear of
municipalities that tripled their
forfeiture collection after partaking in the SDC program and is
hopeful for similar results here.
Currently, there is $2,381,906
in past due forfeitures due to the
court. SDC is equipped to collect forfeitures by levying bank
accounts, garnishing wages, and
executing tax intercepts. This new
partnership will enable the City
of Sheboygan/Village of Kohler
Municipal Court to collect previously uncollectable forfeitures
dating back to the start of the
court. Previously, the court could
only garnish wages if a defendant
voluntarily provided their social
security number and employer information.
To avoid referral to the SDC,
defendants are encouraged to contact the court to arrange to pay past
due forfeitures immediately. For

The City of Sheboygan/Village of Kohler Municipal Court
was formed in 2006 to oversee
non-criminal trac and ordinance
violations. The mission of the
court is to provide access to justice
to the people of the City of Sheboygan and the Village and Kohler
in a timely and cost-eective manner. Municipal Court Judge, Natasha L. Torry, was elected April 7,
2015 and began her 4-year term
on May 1, 2015. Judge Torry is a
2001 graduate of the University of
Wisconsin Law School. She is past
president of the Sheboygan County Bar Association, past chair for
the Supreme Court of Wisconsin
Oce of Lawyer Regulation District IV Committee, and currently
serves on the State Bar of Wisconsin Public Relations Committee.
Court Clerk, Caroline Fortin, has
been with the court for 10 years.
Ms. Fortin received her Bachelor degree in Civil Law from the
University Ottawa in 1993. Megan
Marver is a 2016 graduate of the
paralegal program at Lakeshore
Technical College.

Army Pvt. Michael A. Kral III has graduated

from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, OK.
Kral is the son of Mike and Mary Kral of Kohler
and will be graduating from Kohler High School
in 2017. In parallel, Kral is currently serving in
the Wisconsin Army National Guard. He will attend Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee
in Virginia next summer and begin his freshman
year of college in Fall 2017.
Basic Combat Training (BCT) is a training
course that transforms civilians into Soldiers.
Over the course of ten weeks, the soldier learned
basic tactical and survival skills along with how
to shoot, rappel, and march. He also learned the
basics of Army life and military customs, including the Seven Core Army Values.

Riso Quartet to perform

at the Waelderhaus
KOHLER, WI A quartet of accomplished young women will
perform a free recital at the Waelderhaus next month. The event is

The Riso Quartet is a group of
classically trained musicians, appearing under the guises of piano quartet, string trio, string duo,
and any other imaginable combination. The four musicians are
graduates of the Leonard Sorkin
International Institute of Chamber
Music at The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukees Peck School
of the Arts and met in 2011. All
four members became fast friends,
and upon nishing school with
many performances under their
belts, decided to create music together for the long haul.
Megan Buschkopf began her violin studies at the String Academy
of Wisconsin as a student of Susan
Dominguez and Elizabeth Pabon.
She continued her studies at the
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, earning a Bachelors degree
in 2009 in Violin Performance
under the guidance of Dr. Myron
Kartman and Dr. Bernard Zinck.
Megan recently graduated with
Masters degrees in String Pedagogy and Chamber Music Performance. During her time as a
graduate student, she performed
extensively as a member of the
Leonard Sorkin International Institute of Chamber Music, receiving coaching and instruction from
the faculty of the Peck School of
the Arts. During this time, Ms.
Buschkopf was also given the
opportunity to work with the esteemed Arianna String Quartet.
Megan currently serves as a faculty member of the String Academy
of Wisconsin, Waukesha String
Academi, and Wisconsin String
Studio.
Rachael Charles began her
studies on the viola at age 9 in
her hometown of St. Charles,
MO. She received her Bachelor
of Music in viola performance
at the University of Missouri-St.
Louis in 2011, and her Master
of Music at the University of
Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2014.
Her previous teachers include
Lewis Rosove, Joanna Mendoza, and Robert Meyer. While at
UW-Milwaukee Rachael served as

Alicia Storin began playing cello at the age of 10 with the public school music program in her
hometown of Mequon, WI, and
continued her studies through
high school with Greg Mathews
of the Milwaukee Symphony
Orchestra. Alicia earned a Bachelors of Music from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities,
and her Masters of Music from
the Cleveland Institute of Music
in 2007, where she studied with
Stephen Geber. Upon her return
to Milwaukee, Alicia served as
cellist in the Leonard Sorkin International Institute of Chamber
Music at UW-Milwaukee, where
she graduated with a performance
certicate under Stefan Kartman
in 2013.
As a founding member of local ensemble Cadance Collective,
Alicia works with musicians and
dancers to create collaborative
performance pieces using innovative musical scores and original choreography. She has also
performed at both the Milwaukee
Repertory Theater and American Players Theatre as the cellist/Muse in An Iliad opposite
Wisconsin favorite, actor James
DeVita. Alicia teaches as part of
the faculty at both the Waukesha
String Academie and the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra.
A Sheboygan-area native, Johanna Schilling graduated with
a bachelors degree in piano performance from Houghton College
in western New York in 2010.
She received her Master of Music degree in piano performance
from the University of WisconsinMilwaukee in 2012, where she
studied with Judit Jaimes and Elena Abend. Since graduation, Jo-

hanna has worked as a company

accompanist for the Milwaukee
Ballet, piano faculty at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music,
and currently as an Associate Lecturer in Piano at UWM. She is also
the accompanist for the Lakeshore
Chorale in Sheboygan and teaches
piano privately and at St. Robert
School in Shorewood. When not
teaching, practicing, rehearsing,
or performing music, she enjoys
the outdoors, preferably on her
motorcycle.

Bright Program Seeks Volunteer
Support for 2016 Show
SHEBOYGAN, WI September
12, 2016 The Making Spirits
Bright Steering Committee is
looking for businesses and organizations to volunteer their time
to assist with setting up and taking
down the holiday lights show presented in Evergreen Park. Making Spirits Bright needs teams of
10-20 individuals to work on the
weekends leading up to the holiday event to help with the installation of the many temporary light
displays that populate the park. A
similar eort will be required of
teams to participate in the disassembly eort in January.
The volunteer teams will perform scheduled activities that can
be tailored to a groups abilities.
Activities may include lifting,
assembling, or providing light

electrical work. Volunteer teams

should provide a Team Leader
who will receive direction from
the Making Spirits Bright design
team. Teams are needed to begin
the set up process on weekends
in October and November and for
the rst two weekends of January
to take down the event displays.
All participating teams will receive mention in the published
event booklet.
Making Spirits Bright is entering its fth year of providing
this unique holiday event. The
drive-through holiday lights
show is staged in Sheboygans
Evergreen Park, running during
evening hours in November and
December 2016. The Making
Spirits Bright presentation is a
service project of the three Rota-

ry Clubs of Sheboygan County,

initiated to collect pantry items
for the Sheboygan County Food
Bank and to provide an exciting,
aordable and quality family

from area businesses, churches,
and organizations assisted in all
aspects of organizing and staging
this event. More than 21,000 vehicles entered the park and pantry item donations totaled 73,000
pounds, resulting in a ve-month

Public Library Director Erin Coppersmith announces the publication of a new video presenting the
librarys commitment to universal
literacy and lifelong learning.

Libraries of Pewaukee, WI, the
video highlights contemporary
and historic imagery of the village
and public library.
The recently refurbished library
features new lighting and seating
arrangements which reect current assessments about independent work as well as collaborative

studying.
Kohler Public Library, a member of Eastern Shores Library System, is located at 333 Upper Road
and shares space and resources
with the Library Media Center in
Kohlers K-12 public school. This
arrangement provides the school
district with access to millions of
