20 FUSION LICKS
These licks will spark your creativity in
no time, and seriously raise your fusion
game!

LICK 1
Martin says...
This first lick, like most of the others, is supposed to be used over the Gm7 harmony that is
present throughout the majority of the track (some other licks within this package are played
over the C7 that occurs later in the track).
The first part of this example shows you a neat way to incorporate some of your Blues
vocabulary into your Fusion playing. After the initial bluesy bit, theres a triplet based Gm
melodic minor line that superimposes a Bbmaj7#5 arpeggio over the old Gm7.
Finally Im playing an F# major triad, which is quite an outside sound (F# Major against Gm7
contains the following intervals: b5, b7, b9) but you can make it work just fine by resolving it
back nicely into the harmony.
