We Are Here To Help You
This is just one example of what we do
every month so if you need financial
assistance with a pet please contact us.
How Do We Do This?
To raise money, we sell items donated in
our shop. We are entirely reliant on your
generous donations. As all our volunteers
give their time and travel freely, you can
be sure that all the money raised from
your donations will go towards running the
charity and helping the animals.

FAQs
What is the excess (Co Payment) and
how does it work?
The excess is the amount that you pay out
of your own pocket. It can usually be on an
annual basis; however some policies apply
the excess to each medical condition.
Will I be able to use any doctor
or hospital or will I have to use a
network?
You can use a network of doctors and
hospitals to maximise the benefits of the
policy and therefore the premium will be
lower. The network is usually widespread
so this type of policy can provide real
value for money. You can still go outside
of their network, but be aware that the
reimbursement may be lower with usually
a monetary cap on doctor consultations.
Will my pre-existing conditions be
covered?
Generally, if you have an on-going
medical condition requiring check-ups
and medication, it will be excluded from
the policy.
You are usually asked to
complete a medical questionnaire and the
underwriters will either:

strange department to work for! As we
have it now, the roundabout works very
well
because it is simple. The French

about nowadays. Further research shows
that nearly every country had its own illogical

Local Fiestas
Los Alcazares - Fiesta del Caldero
Held during the second week of October,
with the main fiesta day being the 12th
October, which is also a national holiday,
Hispanic Day. For Los Alcazares the
fiesta signifies the gaining of municipal
independence when it was segregated
from the municipalities of San Javier
and Torre Pacheco, on 13th October
1983. Hence, Los Alcazares has a weeklong celebration of the towns municipal
autonomy, during which there are firework
displays, processions and most notable,
the Caldero Festival, where the local
fishermen light fires on the beach and
cook their catch in hanging cauldrons
(12th October). Typical dishes of the Mar
Menor, whose recipes are mainly based on
rice and fish, are cooked on the beaches
throughout the day and the public is
encouraged to join in the celebrations and
gastronomy presented by this historically
important fishing town.
.
Sucina - Fiesta del Virgin del Rosario
Sucina started its fiesta on 23rd September
and it will continue until 10th October in
honour of their patron saint, the Virgen
del Rosario. The fiesta includes concerts,
a paella competition, crazy car race, magic
show and fireworks. The highlights for
October events are:

Peach Pizza
1 (16 oz) pizza base
1 tbsp olive oil
1 clove garlic, finely minced
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 oz prosciutto
4 oz ricotta cheese (1/2 cup)
5 oz fresh mozzarella, diced into small
cubes
1 medium fresh peaches
1 cup balsamic vinegar
cup honey
Flour, for dusting
1/3 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
Place pizza stone in oven and preheat
oven to 450. Let pizza stone preheat with
oven and rest 30 minutes (assemble pizza
during last 10 minutes or so).
Meanwhile, pour balsamic vinegar and
honey into a large and deep pan on
medium heat. Allow mixture to cook and
simmer, until reduced to slightly under a
cup, about 15 minutes. Stir mixture
occasionally during first 5 minutes, then
stir constantly during last 10 minutes. In
a small bowl, stir together olive oil and
garlic. Brush mixture evenly over top of
pizza base, working to evenly distribute
garlic. Season crust lightly with salt and
pepper. Layer prosciutto over crust in an
even layer. Dollop small portions of the
ricotta over pizza, then sprinkles with
mozzarella cubes. Cut peaches in half and
de-stone. Layer peaches evenly over pizza.
Bake 10-12 minutes until edges are lightly
golden. Remove from oven, sprinkle with
fresh basil, and drizzle with honey. Cut into
slices and serve warm.

Future.
Remote
Sensing:
Enabling
our
Future is an inward looking theme, which
celebrates Earth Observation from Space
for the betterment of the human race. It
highlights a host of classic Earth Observation
missions such as the US Landsat mission,
the work of intergovernmental groups such
as GEOSS Group on Earth Observations
and emphasizes applications such as
environment and agriculture monitoring,
land-use mapping and new uses such as
location based services. Last years theme,
Discovery celebrated the exciting
discoveries in space, teaching about our
origins and our future and resulted in 1900
events in 73 countries.
Educational Programme
This programme increases educational
benefits of World Space Week by
providing teachers with classroom activities
that use space to excite students about
learning. It inspires students globally by
flying representative students in simulated
zero gravity airplane flights.

2. Improves acne scars
3. Shrinks large open pores

Getting It Right
There has been a lot of talk in the Spanish
press recently about the regulation of
the tourism industry here in Murcia,
with several articles in La Verdad over
the summer suggesting a crackdown on
rental activities in the province. There was
much talk of fines for agencies and others
involved in the sector. However, these
fines are mainly for non-declarations of
income generated by their short term
rental activities.
With 9 of the 16 Autonomous Communities
already regulating the holiday rental
industry by registering Holiday Lets, it
was only a matter of time before the other
provinces fell into line, Murcia included
and the renting of holiday homes has now
become a more organised and regulated
58
process as a result.
I see this as a positive move, which will
raise standards and improve the quality of
the rental accommodation on offer, with
the need to meet minimum standards
in each holiday home. Doubtless the
benefits to the tax office will also be a
major motivator for Spain, with hundreds
of millions of euros of additional income
derived from the tax declarations of
property owners who may not, until now,
have felt inclined to include rental income
on their tax returns!!
Think about it for a moment - would
you want to rent a holiday home for
your family which did not have to meet
minimum standards of safety, possibly
with no insurance and without basics such

A
lady near La Manga said she would love to
have the pony, so Veronica and I hired a
trailer to collect Hope and take her to her
Foster Home. At Hopes gypsy village, we
managed to load her safely into the trailer
although she could hardly walk in a straight
line, collected food that had been donated
to the dog protection association for her,
gave her a big drink of water and dropped
her off late that night, arriving home at
almost midnight; 10 hours on the road,
tired but happy that she was in a place
where she would get care and attention.
However, at 8am the next morning, the
Foster lady phoned saying she couldnt cope
and could we take Hope. Cavalli is full to
bursting, but after breakfast we were on
the road again to La Manga to bring Hope
home. Shes been with us now for about
3 weeks and is getting better every day.
Our vet, Jose, has arranged for a specialist
to take a look at her eyes to see if there is
something we can do to return even partial
sight. We will also have to take a look at
her hearing as it seems shes deaf and
blind. She has had dentistry treatment to
take away huge spikes on her back teeth
that were cutting into her cheeks. Now
shes much more comfortable and eating
well without that terrible pain in her mouth.
