Dear Students,
In this course we will develop the vision of historical perspective, government, politics,
contemporary Pakistan, ideological background of Pakistan. We Study the process of
governance, national development, issues arising in the modern age and posing challenges to
Pakistan. In order to achieve the aforementioned I need your support without which it would not
be possible to realize the aims and objectives of the Course.
Course Description
In this course we will cover the era since Pre History till Present. We will divide the
whole course in to three parts. The first part deals with historical and Geographic background in
the context of emergence of Pakistan. The second part explores Pakistans History and Politics
since 1947 to present situation and circumstances of Pakistan. The last part we will focus on
Aspects of Pakistans Society and Economy. This course explores the struggle for Pakistan
Movement, Muslim separatism and nationalism then after independent there theory and practice.
We will also discuss in the post independent era the military and bureaucracy upheavals in the
political dilemma of Pakistan.
In this way we will critically examine the comparative historical perspective with the current
situation and try to analyze the future of Pakistan in this regard.
Aims and Objectives
On completion of this course, the students are expected to have acquired:
o A better understanding of Muslim Nationalism from historical point of view.
o Basic Knowledge relate to Pakistan movement and two nation theory.
o Exploration of ground realities of Muslim struggle for a separate homeland.
o Important events of history.
Teaching Methodology
Teaching methodology would be very simple. I will prefer to give lecture first and then
we will discuss it in detail. Your question, suggestions will be resumed. Hard copies of the
readings of concerning topic will be given in the class. Additional readings and books would be
suggested in course outline.

Minimum Presences
As per UET Policy, a minimum of 80% presence is essential to appear in the
examination. Those of you keen to learn and desirous to show discipline (100% presence) would
be adequately eulogized towards the end of the semester.
Access to the Faculty Member / Teacher
The students are encouraged to discuss the subjects / lessons with me at mutual
convenience outside the conventional hours. However, the approach must remain positive.

Examination Rules

Quizzes and Assignments etc
o Do not miss the quiz. There is no policy of repeat quiz.

o Submit your assignments on time.


o Utilize all the sources books, journals, e journals, magazines and books to make your
research paper authentic, impressive and worthy of submission.
o The paper should reflect your personality.
o Make it a habit to visit library at least once a week.
o Make use of Internet as much as possible to download useful information.
o Always quote reference when you have borrowed literary material from somewhere.
Otherwise it would be termed as plagiarism.
Method of Examination

The Mid Term and Final Term examinations are of 1-1/2 and 2 hours duration
respectively. They can be Open Book, Open Ended, and / or Take Home Examination. However,
based on experience it has been deduced that Open Ended is the best and most suitable form of
examination. It benefits a large majority of students. However, the subject remains open and
consensus would be taken prior deciding on a mode of examination. The paper invariably would
include MCQs., fill-in-the blanks, true / false and few subjective questions.
Award of Marks / Evaluation Criteria

The purpose of conducting examination is not to determine what you do not know but to
find out how much you know. The distribution and award of marks would be as under:

The final marks for quizzes and assignments would be based on aggregate averages and
are designated as internal marks. They would be communicated to you as per UET Policy, i.e., by
displaying them on notice board or announcing them in the class.
