Descripcin:

El puente consiste en 8 tramos de tablero de acero que se apoyan sobre 7

pilotes de hormign. La carretera elevada pesa 36.000 toneladas mtricas y
mide 2.460 metros de largo y un ancho de 32 metros y un espesor de 4.3
metros Los 6 tramos interiores del viaducto tienen 342 metros y se curva en
una seccin plana con un radio de 20 km Esto ltimo se hizo con la intencin
de dar una mejor visibilidad a los automovilistas. Tiene cuatro carriles de
transito, dos carriles de cada direccin.
El viaducto Millau duplico la altura antes conocida que hasta entonces era del
puente Europabrucke en Austria. Tambin se convirti en el puente carretera
ms alto del mundo tomando de referencia el nivel de la calzada.

Construccin:
La construccin en del viaducto empieza oficialmente el 10 de octubre del 2001
y se tenia planeado que finalizara 3 aos despus, aunque las condiciones del
clima permitieron que esto ocurriera antes de lo programado. Antes de empezar
con la titanica labor se considero lo siguiente: Atravesar a Millau por el este
requera dos grandes puentes sobre el Tarn y el Dourbie, por el oeste se
necesitaran de 4 puentes, seguir con la ruta 9 tendran que pasar por el
poblado de Millau y finalmente atravesar el valle por en medio, esta ultima fue
elegida por el gobierno en junio de 1989.
