CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION
A. Background
News is an information about recent events or happenings, especially as reported
by means of newspapers, websites, radio, television and other forms of media. News
can be classified by seeing its contents. There are several type of content of news such
as straight or sport news, investigative or precision, writing, feature and opinion.
Now days, many people still cannot distinguish the differences between the
component of news, they often see the news in their television, radio, newspaper or
other form of media but they thought that it is still the same kind news. Because of that
the writer decided to write a paper for elaborating those components of news. In order
to make the readers understand about type of components of news especially News peg
and News Angle.
B. Problem Questions
What is News Peg?
What is News Angle?
C. Purpose
To know the differences between News Peg and News Angle.

CHAPTER II DISCUSSION
A. News Peg
News (News) is a report of actual events, factual, important, and interesting
events. In an event of no such thing News Peg. News Peg is also known as News Hook
and Hook Story. News peg is the trigger news, news momentum, hooks news, headlines,
topics or actual events, or situations that become newsworthy (news value). News Peg
a major consideration media / journalists to write and publish a story. The Oxford
Pocket Dictionary (2009) defines News Peg as an aspect or angle of a story that makes
it newsworthy. However, there are also distinguishing News Peg with Angle. Example
Flooding is Angle. News Peg are the flood victims or displaced people. Reporter who
covered an event usually already know or assigned to focus on News Peg were raised
in the news.
When pitching story to the press, there is something important to keep in mind: if
we want to get the attention of the press, we have to think like the press. If you want to
pitch your story to the press, you have to be able to demonstrate what makes your story
relevant now. Thats why the writer created this easy guide to help you to determine the
news peg.
1. Provide a twist on trending news.
If a particular trend or topic is hot in the media right now, we can bet that
journalists are scrambling to one up each other with new stories. We can fill that void
but we absolutely, positively must show up with a twist to the story theyre already
reporting. Share a personal story, a surprising survey result or the contrarian view.
2. Localize a national story.
Pick up our local newspaper or flick on your local ABC affiliate and we will see
countless examples of businesses that got their 15 minutes by being the local example.
These types of stories are the bread-and-butter of our hometown press.

3. Nationalize a local story.

This trick also works in reverse. Scan we local news for hometown stories and ask
ourselves: Does this story have national relevance? How can I frame it for a reporter,
and insert myself in the story in the process? This is how a lot of freelance writers get
their ideas and it can work wonders for you, too.
4. Be a contrarian.
Objective journalism these days often hinges on getting Both sides of the story.
If were seeing a one sided media conversation about our industry, its an opportunity
for us to break through as an expert especially if were willing to champion the underdog
opinion.
5. Personalize big data.
Very few micro businesses have the data samples or poll results that attract press.
But that doesnt mean we cant be the case study that helps the reporter tell the data
story. Set up alerts for surveys and polls on topics relevant to our business, and let the
media know when were the case study for the results (or the exception to the rule).
6. Reinvent the holiday story.
Sick of reading the same old holiday or seasonal stories? Journalists are tired of
writing them. And, yet, its inevitable. Every Mothers Day, were going to read
countless stories on gifts for mom. If we can give a reporter a new spin on that seasonal
feature she has to write every year, were on the fast track for being her go to source
when shes writing a story on a deadline.
7. Are you releasing something new? Use it!
This is the most obvious way to create a hook, but its my least favorite (look! Im
being a contrarian). Most of the time, our new product or service isnt newsworthy in
itself, and announcement press releases are the biggest waste of time for us and for a
journalist. But (and this is a big but), if we can demonstrate how your product or service
is new and that it ties into a trend, weve got a great hook.

B. News Angle
Angle of news is the viewpoint of reporters to an event or case. Angle is what will
distinguish between the content of the news media with other media. The same events,
but because of differences in news angle, the content and the message the story will be
different. In literal, news angle means that corner or side of the news. Angle a story
appears on the terrace (lead). Dictionary "defines news about journalism angle" The
angle is the point or theme of a news or feature story. The angle is found in the lede of
the story. "There is another definition of news angle; the angle is the point or theme of
a news or feature story. The angle is found in the lede of the story. Also Known As:
theme, point.
Angle is a news standpoint, he is usually formulated in the form of questions to
facilitate the definition of the problem. Angle is necessary so that a clear writing
problem stood to address the issue that appeared intact and inside. Besides the writing
process Angle is necessary in order to avoid overlapping or overlapping, facilitate the
sharing of posts and sharing of data. In general, the news angle is the viewing angle of
a story or event. A similar event will be written in a way that is different by every
journalist depends viewpoint from which the authors see it. We see a simple example,
such as some journalists covering the event of flooding of the Ciliwung River in Jakarta.
Reporters who come there will be writing news with a perspective different. Usually
journalists came up with the viewpoint or angle of news that had been prepared by the
editor, or on their own accord. In principle, journalists will seek the viewpoint of most
interest to readers. On the field, journalists are not very free to write to the viewpoint at
will. There are several factors that determine the viewpoint of reporters, causing the
difference between the authors of one another.
First, the angle is determined political news media, where journalists work. If the
media is a supporter of the Governor Jokowi, then the viewpoint taken by journalists is
how the spirit of the governor to help the refugees. Journalists will write Jokowi who
voluntarily break through murky water with no prestige at all. Reporters might describe
how Jokowi very friendly to people who greeted him. Jokowi hero! What if the media
has a position at odds with Governor Jokowi? Journalists who served in the field will
4

take the news angle of Jokowi who just likes blusukan to the villages but did not clear
the basic concept in dealing with the flood. Reporters will be looking for people who
can tell him to his demands Jokowi to work better. Journalists will also contact an urban
observer about the need for flood management as a whole, not just reviewing the flood,
then forgotten.
Second, the media type will also determine the angle of news. Media general will
vary with special issue. Journalists in general newspaper story covering the flooding of
the angle of a general nature. Media such as these will contain flooding in the general
description, such as how extensive flooding, how many refugees, aid has come
whatever, and so on. Unlike the case with media specific nature. For example in
economic magazines, journalists will write about the effects of flooding to economic
life. Journalists will write about many roads, fields, damaged irrigation. Reporters will
make calculations about the impact of floods to the farmers. His perspective would be
different if it turned out to be the focus of media news to stock trading. Reporters will
see a flood of economies of scale and impact to the ups and downs of the stock market.

Third, the standpoint of writing will also be determined by the character of writing.
Some wrote in top down from top to bottom. Instead the article was written with the
technique of button up, from bottom to top.
Media with style top down will see a flood of official viewpoint. Journalists
representing media issued by the government, for example, will tend to start writing
with officials citing then other details. If the journalist covering the flood, then he will
start from the statement of Minister of Social Affairs on the rocks for refugees. Only
after that, the reporter will write about comments population. For example the statement
refugees who expressed his gratitude to the government for help.
Another reporter-style button-up will write the revelation of flood victims
beforehand about how he was feeling, suffering, and hope to the government. The next
news is filled with the revelation that the government respond to the expectations of
citizens.

Thus, the viewing angle is determined primarily but not exclusively concerned media
character and the character of journalists concerned. But keep in mind, whatever angle
is written, the fact remains to be the number one.
Journalists should not be fabricated. For example journalists to express the
suffering of refugees without direct interview, just make an estimate. It violates the code
of conduct. The fact remains the main grip, any news angle made.
Angle forced news would enable journalists to distort the news. For example,
media reporters that "critical to Jokowi" will seek revelation denouncing the governor.
It could be the atmosphere on the field was not found Jokowi criticized the story
population. Then journalists, for the sake of duty editor, find fault Jokowi to report. It
must be remembered honesty is the weapon of journalists to gain the trust of the reader.
