DIGESTIVE ENZYMES

The digestion is one of the body processes that require enzymes

to function properly. The digestive enzymes are as follows:
1. Enzyme: Ptyalin
Source: Found in the saliva produced by the salivary gland in
the mouth.
Function: converts starch to maltose in the mouth.
2. Enzyme: Rennin
Source: Found in the gastric juice produced by the gastric gland
of the stomach
walls.
Function: converts soluble caseinogen (milk protein) to
insoluble casein(curds) in the stomach of children.
3. Enzyme: Pepsin
Source: Found in the gastric juice produced by the gastric gland of
the stomach walls.
Function: Converts protein to polypeptides in the stomach.
4. Enzyme: Amylase
Source: Found in the pancreatic juice produced by the pancreas
Function: converts starch to maltose in the duodedum.
5. Enzyme: Trypsin
Source: Found in the pancreatic juice produced by the pancreas
Function: converts proteins to polypeptides in the duodedum.
6. Enzyme: Lipase
Source: Found in the pancreatic juice produced by the pancreas
Function: converts fats to fatty acids and glycerol

7. Enzyme: Enterokinase
Source: found in the intestinal juice produced by the intestinal
glands.

Function: converts trypsinogen to trypsin

8. Enzyme: Maltase
Source: found in the intestinal juice produced by the intestinal
glands
Function: converts maltose to glucose
9. Enzyme: Lactase
Source: found in the intestinal juice produced by the intestinal
glands
Function: converts lactose to glucose and galactose
10. Enzyme: Sucrase
Source: found in the intestinal juice produced by the intestinal
glands
Function: converts sucrose to glucose and fructose
11. Enzyme:Erepsin
Source: found in the intestinal juice produced by the intestinal
glands
Function: converts polypeptides to amino acids
12. Enzyme: Lipase
Source: found in the intestinal juice produced by the intestinal
glands
Function: Converts fats to fatty acids and glycerol.
