The Multimedia Design Project/Webquest was a required assignment in the ITEC 7445
course. This was an individual assignment. The assignment required candidates to
research internet tools and digital technology and implement those tools in a lesson
plan or unit plan. The Multimedia Design Project Planning Assessment(MDPA) was used
to guide candidates through the project and offer a way to reflect on the experiences of
the unit. The assessment included the following sections: analysis, design,
development, implementation, evaluation, and reflection. Candidates were required to
align the project with content and technology standards and show evidence of doing so.
This artifact demonstrates my ability to model and facilitate the effective use of digital
tools and resources to support and enhance higher order thinking skills (e.g., analyze,
evaluate, and create); processes (e.g., problem-solving, decision-making); and mental
habits of mind (e.g., critical thinking, creative thinking, metacognition, self-regulation,
and reflection). The MDPA was implemented in my 9 th grade language arts class which
takes place in a co-teaching environment. The project was part of the Shakespeare
Unit, specifically during Romeo and Juliet. The learning objectives were for students to
analyze the text the project was designed for, which was Romeo and Juliet and to
connect the characters traits to conflict and resolutions. I wanted the students to
analyze what conflict a character had in the text and connect that with a historical
conflict they researched. After researching, I wanted the student to use problemsolving skills, to find a conflict resolution that might have helped the character in
Romeo and Juliet and the historical conflict as well. The students were to complete the
Webquest through Weebly.com and I modeled how to navigate the site before the
project began and students also had a tutorial session. All digital tools and resources
were modeled to the students and along with my instruction I had the school technology
specialist and media center specialist instruct my class on tools and how to navigate the
schools research library. I assessed student learning by frequently checking Webquest
and Google activity to see if they were following directions and were able to understand
the connections and characters correctly. I simply viewed a students responses and
gave feedback and notes on their project so that they could make corrections if needed.
They also had a chance to ask questions and to clarify anything as they went along
through messaging on the tech tools. The products they used to demonstrate their
learning was Google Slides, Actively Learn, LMS, Google Apps and they were to show
their learning in the correct order as listed in the process tab.
I learned that it takes a good deal of planning and researching to find the appropriate
lesson and tools needed for your students to have a engaging Webquest activity. What
worked well for me is the planning and the time I allowed for the project to be developed
and implemented. I learned that Weebly.com, thinglink.com, and Google were good
options for a Webquest activity. For some one of the components might need to be

changed and some material might need to be shortened based on student needs and
technological resources. I learned that its important for teachers to reserve technology
early to ensure that all students will have it available when they need it. I also learned
that I can present new technology and explain it well enough that students who dont
have previous experience with some tools can understand them well enough to be
successful. This experience taught me that one of the biggest reasons this project was
a success was because I knew my students well and planned activities that are
challenging but realistic for them to complete. I would allow more technology options
and allow the students to use audio or video to present their projects if I were to do this
project again. I would choose a different audio tool for students who need read aloud
accommodations because the program had consistent difficulties throughout the project.
This field experience impacted school improvement by allowing students to work on an
activity that challenged them but was also engaging so that they understand literature,
the parts of it and a life issue even more. This will help them retain the information
better than a bland assignment would. This impacted faculty development by showing
other teachers how to use technology to help compliment their teaching and how tech
tools can improve work production. Student learning is improved through the engaging
and authentic experience and the activity connects to other subjects as well to help
enforce an all-around educational experience for the students. The impact can be
assessed through teacher and administrative observations and administrative
evaluations on teacher performance.
