Invitation for the Selection of the Sub-Committee Members of the
25th Hong Kong Union for Young Leaders (2016 2017)
On behalf of the 25th Hong Kong Union for Young Leaders (HKUYL) Executive
Committee, I would like to express our earnest gratitude for your perpetual support
throughout the past years to the Union. As the new school year commences, I am delighted
to notify you that the 25th HKUYL Executive Committee is officially in office, and the
selection of Sub-Committee members shall begin in due course.
As a Member School of the Union, your school is most welcomed to nominate
Secondary Five Students (or equivalent) as candidates for the selection of the SubCommittee members, in which a maximum of TWO non-Campers are allowed to enter the
selection. Ex-Campers who are currently attending one of the Member Schools are NOT
included in this quota, and are all eligible to apply.
The Sub-Committee is comprised of the Promotion Department and the Publicity
Department. Applicants are required to complete the attached Application Form and the
respective tasks for their department of choice. Applicants, according to their performance
in the tasks, will be invited to sit for an interview scheduled on Saturday, 8th October, 2016,
or Sunday, 9th October, 2016. Academic strengths, global and social awareness,
participation in extracurricular activities, proficiency in English, leadership skills, and
knowledge of the Union will be taken into consideration during the selection process.
Enclosed please find an Application Form, a Principal Endorsement Form, an
introduction of the Sub-Committee Departments, and a list of Tasks for Nominees. Each
candidate is required to return his/ her Application Form and Tasks for their department of
choice completed, together with a photocopy of his/ her School Report Card of the
previous academic year, a Personal Rsum, and the Principals Endorsement Form to the
Union via mail to the General Post Office Box 10379 AND via email to info@hkuyl.org.hk
latest by Thursday, 6th October, 2016.

Introduction of Sub-Committee Departments
Promotion Department
The Promotion Department focuses on both creativity and innovation. Throughout the year,
committee members will design souvenirs, newsletters, and webpages. Applicants who are
interested or experienced in either art design or computer technology are recommended to
apply for this department.
Publicity Department
The Publicity Department is responsible for promoting the image of the Union, managing
contacts and links including Alumni, Honorary Advisors, Sponsors, Schools, and the Media
Press. Applicants who are interested in handling public relationship, and possess effective
communication skills and English proficiency are recommended to apply for this department.

List of Tasks for Nominees of the Sub-Committee
Complete ONLY the tasks of the Department you opt for. Please be reminded that you may
find information regarding the Union and its Projects from the Unions webpage
(www.hkuyl.org.hk).
Promotion Department
Candidate applying for a post as a Sub-Committee member of this Department must
complete Section A and ONE task from Section B.
Section A:
Produce an art piece along with an art statement explaining your work. All presentation
mediums are allowed. The piece should surround the theme of .
Section B:

Design a name card for the Committee Members, following the guidelines given
below:
a) Include a name, a position, a phone number, and an email address. You are not
allowed to use your own information for the work.
b) Specification: 2 Sided, 850 mm x 550 mm, CMYK Colour Mode, and 300 PPI

Shoot and edit a video with the theme of Innovation. The video should be no longer
than 5 minutes, in 16:9 ratio, and include more than one video clip. Upload the video
to YouTube and submit the link that leads to the file.

or Ms. CHU, Natalie Wing Tung, at 5533 6822 after school hours for the use of the Union
Logo.

Publicity Department
Candidate applying for a post as a Sub-Committee member of this Department must
complete ALL tasks.
1.

Currently, the Union uses Facebook as a major channel of promotion. However,


some question the effectiveness of such measure. Suggest and explain in details two
other practical ways, as to how the Union can increase its public exposure while
upholding its reputation.
(Minimum requirement: 300 Words)

2.

Every year, the Union invites its Honorary Advisors as the guest speakers in the Annual
General Meeting (AGM). Yet, most of the Advisors retain particular political
backgrounds. Express your opinions on whether the Union should invite Advisors
with political stance to present a speech in the AGM.
(Minimum requirement: 400 Words)
