TheLM317/LM338/LM350voltageregulatorsareexceptionallyeasytouse,requiringonlytwoexternalresistorstosettheregulated
outputvoltage.YoucanexpectperformanceofboththelineandloadregulationusingtheLM317/LM338/LM350adjustablevoltage
regulatorsoverthatofstandardfixedvoltageregulator.TheLM317/LM338/LM350voltageregulatorsofferfulloverloadprotection.
Normally,nocapacitorsareneededunlessthedeviceissituatedmorethan150mm(6inches)fromtheinputfiltercapacitorsinwhich
caseaninputbypasscapacitorisrequired.Anoptionaloutputcapacitorcanbeaddedtoimprovetransientresponse.Theadjustment
terminaloftheregulatorcanbebypassedtoachieveveryhighripplerejection.Refertotheadjustableregulatordatasheetsbelowfor

Calculatorwillworkforallvoltageregulatorswithareferencevoltage(VREF)of1.25.Typically,theprogramresistor(R1)issetat240
ohmsfortheLM117,LM317,LM138andLM150regulators.FortheLM338andLM350regulators,120ohmsistypicallyusedforthe
programresistorR1.However,othervaluessuchas150or220ohmscanalsobeusedforR1.TheLM317/LM338/LM350seriesof
