MONSOON WATCH
· Conditions are becoming favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon over some more parts of
Karnataka.
· The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) continues to pass through Lat.12.0°N/ Long.60.0°E,
Lat.12.0°N/Long.70.0°E, Kannur, Bangalore, Cuddapah, Bapatla, Lat. 17.0°N/Long. 85.0°E, Lat. 20.0°
N/Long. 92.0°E, Agartala, Dhubri and Gangtok.
MAIN WEATHER OBSERVATIONS(Recorded during past 24 hours)
· Heat wave conditions are prevailing over parts of Orissa and isolated pockets of coastal Andhra Pradesh.
They would abate during next two days.
· The highest maximum temperature of 45.8°C has been recorded at Hirakud (Orissa).
Synoptic features (based on 0530 hrs IST)
· The depression over south Pakistan weakened further into a well marked low pressure area and lay
centred at 0530 hours IST of today, the 7th June, 2010 over West Rajasthan and adjoining central
Pakistan.
· The western disturbance over Jammu & Kashmir and neighbourhood persists.
Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) Guidance
· The western disturbance would affect northwest India today.
· The fresh western disturbance would also affect northwest India from today evening onward.
Satellite Observations:
· KALPANA–1 Cloud imagery at 0530 hours IST shows convective clouds over parts of Rajasthan,
Saurashtra & Kutch, Gujarat Region, northeastern states, south Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, northeast &
southeast Arabian Sea, southeast and adjoining southwest, eastcentral & westcentral Bay of Bengal and
Andaman Sea. Low/medium clouds are seen over parts of rest northwest, central, east and peninsular
India.
Major features of weather forecast (upto 0530 hours IST of 10th June 2010)
· Fairly widespread to widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over northeastern states.
· Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Lakshadweep, Kerala, coastal & south interior
Karnataka, Konkan & Goa and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
· Scattered rain/thundershowers would occur over Madhya Maharashtra, north interior Karnataka,
Rayalaseema and Tamilnadu and isolated over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telengana during next 48
hours and increase thereafter.
· Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, scattered
over Gangetic West Bengal and isolated over rest east India.
· Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and scattered
over West Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh and Saurashtra & Kutch during next 24 hours and
decrease thereafter and isolated over East Uttar Pradesh and East Madhya Pradesh during next 48 hours.
· Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during next

48 hours and decrease thereafter.


· Scattered rain/thundershowers would occur over Jammu & Kashmir during next 24 hours and increase
thereafter.
· Maximum temperature would fall by 2-4°C over parts of northwest and west India.

Warning
· Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur over Assam & Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh,
Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan and isolated heavy over Punjab, Haryana and West Uttar
Pradesh during next 48 hours.
· Thundersqualls may occur at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and
Madhya Pradesh during next 48 hours.
Weather Outlook (upto 0530 hours IST of 12th June, 2010)
· Fairly widespread rainfall activity would occur over Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan Goa, coastal
Karnataka, northeastern states and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
