Construction of a concrete deck, curb to curb
Sidewalks be maintained, or pedestrian detours created
Decking will serve as the temporary street surface

La Brea Station:

Local Access
Phase 3 Resident and Business Local Access
North Wilshire sidewalk is open from La Brea to Highland.
South Wilshire sidewalk closed from La Brea to Citrus.
Sidewalk re-opens between Citrus and Highland.
Pedestrian detour signage will be in place directing
people around the closures.
Access to businesses and apartment buildings available
via north/south from 8th/6th Streets and Carling Way.
Citrus will remain open to north/south traffic throughout
closures.
Mansfield will remain open to north/south traffic
throughout closures.
Sycamore Ave north/south closures for all 16 weekends of
Phase 3.
Orange Drive closed intermittently. Updates provided
weekly as work progresses.
Jet grouting activities to occur between Orange and
Mansfield and Mansfield and Citrus.

La Brea Station Excavation

Scheduled to start in September thru the


Fall of 2017.
Work hours are 7am-11pm, 11pm-7am as
needed.
Excavation will occur under the concrete
deck, with intrinsically safe equipment
thats been certified by the State of
California.
Excavation material will be removed from
the staging yards at Wilshire/La Brea,
loaded into trucks, and hauled using
approved haul routes (SB La Brea to I-10).
Street level excavation has started as a
part of decking excavation and utility
hanging under the deck will continue
behind the closure on Wilshire through the
Fall of 2016.

Deck Openings
What:

Deck openings are openings of the street-deck for


the purpose of delivering materials for underground
construction.
Deck openings will be done at locations of the deck
that are designed to open and close.
Deck openings will occur periodically, as needed
Deck panels are 8ftx14ft

Jet Grouting
*Dates and work activities subject to change

Overview

Jet grouting is a construction process that uses high-pressure air and


grout to create a deep soil-concrete block.
The purpose of jet grouting is to reinforce and strengthen the soil
with concrete to support tunneling and cross-passage

Locations

Jet Grouting will occur at 16 locations along Wilshire between La


Cienega and Western.
There will be no more than two jet-grouting operations being
performed at one time.
Approximately 6 weeks at each location.
Work hours M-F 7am-9pm, Sat 8am-6pm

Wilshire between Orange and Mansfield-UNDERWAY


Wilshire between Rossmore and Lucerne- start September 24th
Wilshire between Lucerne and Windsor anticipated start Nov. 2016
Construction notices will be sent and outreach will be conducted for
each location

Fairfax Station
Pile Installation Overview

Pile installation includes:


Rig to construct 95ft (L) deep
Crane lifting 95Ft (L) , 24 Inch H-piles into
holes
Approx. 490 piles
Drilling, pile installation and backfilled
concrete completed same day
Piling will start in August 2016 on the north side
of Wilshire.
Operation anticipated to take approximately 4-6
months on each side of the street.
Typical work hours 7am-11pm with potential
nighttime work hours from 11pm to 7am.
Wilshire is reduced to two lanes in each direction.
Directional closures on Fairfax and Wilshire will
take place on weekends.

Traffic reconfiguration will be installed over a single weekend using
intermittent lane reductions.
Wilshire will be reduced to two lanes in each direction for approximately 46 months.
Potential off-peak lane reductions to one lane in each direction.

Construction of a concrete deck, curb to curb
Sidewalks be maintained, or pedestrian detours created.
Decking will serve as the temporary street surface. Traffic will
travel on the installed deck panels while the station is
constructed underground
Fairfax Station:
Approx. 800 feet long
Approx. 70 feet wide
Approx. 60 feet deep
Will follow pile operations; anticipated to begin January 2017
Additional activities under decking closures: piling, temporary
civil improvements.
Will work closely with First Responders on emergency access

Approximately 18 weekend closures, scheduled in three phases beginning east and moving
west on Wilshire Blvd.

Phase 1: Ogden-Fairfax 10 weekends


Phase 2: Fairfax intersection 4 weekends
Phase 3: West of Fairfax 4 weekends

Friday 8pm: Full closure of Wilshire or Wilshire/Fairfax intersection (Phase 2)


Monday 6am: streets open
Work occurs continuously throughout weekend
Working with DOT on early lane reductions to start Fridays 10am (similar to La Brea). Wilshire
would reduce to one lane each direction to allow for the loudest work (breaking of concrete)
to be completed during day time hours.

Financial assistance to small mom & pop businesses impacted
by Metro transit rail construction along three project areas:
Metro Purple Line Extension, Phase 1
Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project
Regional Connector, Little Tokyo area & 2nd/Broadway segment
Businesses must be located immediately adjacent to the rail
corridor and meet other eligibility requirements
Grant amount determined by demonstrated loss of business
revenue directly related to the period of construction disruption
Maximum annual grant amount per business is $50,000
