and unholy," and children will be

Sounds like the evening news, doesnt it?

This analysis is instructive to churches. Most notably, it demonstrates the recurring problems that

WASHINGTON In a speech at the U.S.
Department of Education, William Jeynes,
a senior fellow at the Witherspoon Institute in Princeton and a Harvard graduate,
presented data from a recent major study
on raising African American student
achievement. The study was a metaanalysis, which is a very highly regarded
statistical approach. This is because a meta-analysis statistically combines all of the
studies that have ever been done on a particular topic. The findings indicated that
African American parental involvement is
a particularly strong means of raising the

On Thanksgiving,
be thankful for
"little things"
This Thanksgiving, as your family gathers together for food and fellowship,
look at your big turkey and, for a moment, think small.
It's easy to be thankful for the big
things, our homes, cars, and accomplishments, but it's just as easy to
forget the small things that make our
lives comfortable. No matter how rich
or poor we are, we all have many things
to be thankful for.
We take for granted that we have enough
food. We don't worry that our food will
last through the winter as the Pilgrims
did. We can count on the grocery store
for that.
We expect to have a home, be it fancy
or plain, but that's not a small thing
for many millions of people. So perhaps
we should take a moment to thank God
for our abode, be it ever so humble.
We can take a moment to be thankful for
our spouse, children and friends.

and changing seasons. With winter approaching, we can be thankful for our

prevails.
It is easy for the righteous to grow discouraged. This calls for the practice of
tough faith the kind of faith that is
not dependent on circumstances. Its
the kind of faith that hangs in there
when the going gets tough because of
a confident belief that "all things work
together for good for those who love
the Lord" (Romans 8:28).
God never promises that believers will
be immune to suffering. What He does
promise is that He will be there to walk
through the trials with us. He promises
to be beside us when we "pass
through the waters" and "walk through
the fire" (Isaiah 43:2). And He states
that He will be there when we "walk
through the valley of the shadow of
death" (Psalm 23:4).
What is the quality of your faith? When
life turns sour, do you turn to God, or
do you question Him or even curse
Him? One of the keys to hanging
tough is to learn the promises of Gods
Word (like Philippians 4:6-7, 11-13,
and 19) and start claiming them in
prayer when confronted with the challenges of life.
7) Keep an Eternal Perspective
We are to be in the world but not of the
world (John 17:11 & 16). Thats a difficult principle to follow. It constitutes a
daily struggle.
It is so easy to get our eyes off the
Lord and focus instead upon the world
in which we live. The daily demands
are so pressing. And one of the greatest of those demands is that we conform to the world to the worlds language, dress, entertainment, and values.
