Management Techniques: Agile Methods/ Scrums

Agile Methods
There are various techniques and methods of managing a large or small
scale project. As with my video advertisement, software development
projects offer many management techniques to control and organise
tasks.
In particular, agile management methods refers to basic planning
methods that can be used to keep track of smaller tasks in a larger
project. ILPs (Individual Learning Plans) and Timelines are both simple,
yet effective ways of keeping on target during a project.
In addition to this, agile project management methods usually follow a
logical and methodical plan which arranges tasks in order of what should
be completed first and what is worked on last in the project. This plan is
followed by the team/ individual that is working on the project.

Scrum
The scrum management method is currently one of the most popular
project management techniques that is used by relatively small, colocated companies. Software development businesses use this method in
particular. This is because the scrum management technique uses
computer- based planning systems such as spreadsheets to organise
backlogs of work. However, this method can gradually get less effective as
the company expands. Once a businesss backlog builds up, a more time
efficient method is usually introduced.

Contingency Plans

In relation to filming
my video
advertisement, I have various resources and personnel that I have
organised in order for the creation of my product to operate efficiently.
For the advertisement, I have requested 3 people to feature in the video,
even though I only require a single person to act in the advertisement.
The reason for this is that if one of the actors drops out for any
circumstance, I now have backup staff that can feature in the video if
needed.

In regards to my equipment and resources that I will need for the project, I
will be borrowing videoing supplies from college such as a video camera
and tripod if required. However, I will supply all props that I need for the
advertisement, for example, a pair of trainers with the logo that I designed
attached.

Monitoring and Reviews

To set targets during this project, organise my work and keep track of
what tasks I still need to complete, I will be setting Milestone reviews
that I will need to complete at various points during the assignment.
Milestone reviews allows me to evaluate my work up to a certain point
and reflect on work that I have already completed at any given time.
I will aim to set up to 3 milestone reviews throughout this project, this will
allow me to assess my work at 3 different points during this assignment.

Pre-Production Phase

The pre-production phase is the stage where all relevant planning and
organisation of the video advertisement takes place.
In relation to my video advertisement, I began the pre- production phase
by designing two sets of storyboards to sketch out my logo and trainer
design on paper and dope sheets to assist me when I film the advert.
Prior to the filming of my advertisement, I also completed a risk
assessment form. A risk assessment recognises all the potential hazards
and problematic situations that could occur whilst producing the
advertisement. I also provided a scale of action in the risk assessment
which offers me a solution in the circumstance that any of the problems
arise.
Production Phase

During the production of my video advertisement, I only required a single

actor as the idea for my advert didnt involve more than one person.
My advertisement involved filming my new brand of trainers from the
point- of- view of the wearer. It also showcased the trainers in different
situations and environments. This involved the actor walking on a road

and running in the trainer on grass. This shows that the trainer can be
comfortably used in various situations and scenarios.

Crisis Management

To help prevent and limit any damage to the project as a whole that may
happen if a hazard occurs, I created a risk assessment form. This will help
me organise another task that I could do instead of what I originally
planned if a potential hazard does transpire.
A risk assessment is carried out prior to shooting as it helps assess the
potential risks and dangers that could happen while performing a task. As
I will be shooting my advertisement mostly outdoors, there are several
potential hazards that could occur, which could damage the production of
the video shoot and assignment as a whole. It is important to calculate the
probability of the risks that could occur and have an action plan to use
any spare time wisely, in the case that one of the potential hazards
happens whilst producing the advertisement.

Make sure that all equipment

is safe and operational prior
to shooting. Treat all
equipment with respect.
Check the weather for
shooting destination at least
a couple of days before, then
check again the day before.
If extreme weather is
predicted on a day of
shooting, then alter the
schedule to get other tasks
completed that need to be
done.
If important members of the
cast or crew cannot attend a
shoot due to illness, then
video shooting could be
postponed. However, other
tasks could be completed in
this time, making it a
productive use of time.

Quality Control

To ensure that the overall quality of my video advertisement was nearprofessional standard, I used the best possible equipment that was
available at the time of filming. For shooting the video, I used a highdefinition Flip video recorder. I also used a tripod to set the camera on
when filming shots that required no movement. I did this because this is
the best method of keeping the video recorder stationary whilst filming
and it also allows me to film myself without any assistance if needed.
I also took the measure of using minor lighting equipment to help the
overall visual quality of my video as I found some shots that I took during
filming seemed too dark when I played them back. If I had chosen not to
do this the visual quality of my final video advertisement would suffer as
the audience would struggle to see and understand what was happening
in the advert.
