COURSE DESCRIPTION
I. TECHNICAL COURSE:
A. MATHEMATICS
Math 1E - College Algebra
A course covering linear equations in one unknown, coordinates and graphs, system linear
equations, exponents and radicals, elements of quadratic equations , advance topics in quadratic
equations, system involving quadratic, ratios, proportion and variation, the binomial theorem,
progression, inequalities, complex number, theory of equation, computation and logarithms,
permutations and combinations, probability, mathematical induction,
determinants, partial
fractions infinite series method of least squares and related topics.
5 units; Pre-requisite: High School Graduate
Math 7 - Plane Trigonometry
Study of the basic transcendental properties of exponential and logarithmic functions,
trigonometric functions as applied to solutions of right triangles, the concept of trigonometric
identities and equations general angles, radians and application of these solutions of oblique
triangles.
3 units; Co-requisite: Math 1E
Math 13 - Solid Mensuration and Spherical Trigonometry
A course covering geometric property of solids, surfaces and volumes of various solids
such as cubes, spheres, cylinders, prisms, and frustum of solids and the measurement of plane
figures, solids, and spherical surfaces.
3 units; Pre-requisites: Math 1E , Math 7
Math 17E - Analytic Geometry
A course covering Cartesian coordinates, locus of equations, equation of a locus, the
straight line , conic sections, coordinates transformation, polar coordinates, parametric equations,
solids analytic geometry.
Math 18 - Differential Calculus
A course covering derivatives and differentials, maxima and minima, time rate, ,
application to geometry, physics, mechanics and solutions of equation by Newtons method.
5 units; Pre-requisites: Math 17E , Math 13
Math 19 - Integral Calculus
A course on methods of integration and application in finding areas, volumes, centroid,
moment of inertia, water pressure and work, double integration.
5 units; Pre-requisite: Math 18
C. ENGINEERING SCIENCES
ES 1A - Engineering Drawing 1 w/ CAD
A course to familiarize the students with the basic techniques and practices of engineering
drawing toward those elements and composites which are relevant to particular field of
engineering design and construction.
2 units; Pre-requisite: High School Graduate
ES 3 - Engineering Mechanics
Operations with the free body concept, equilibrium of coplanar, and non-coplanar force
system. Analysis of trusses, friction, kinematics of particles and rigid bodies.
5 units; Pre-requisite: Math 19
ES 4B - Strength of Materials
Axial force, shear and bending moment, stress-strain relationships torsion, bending and
shear stress, combined stresses, deflection, buckling, plastic behavior.
5 units; Pre-requisite: ES 3
ES 6 - Thermodynamics 1
Laws of thermodynamics, energy and property relationships, ideal gas laws, and the
concepts of thermodynamics processes and cycles as applied to ideal gases.
ES 9 - Engineering Management
Basic management skills, decision-making, planning, marketing, production, and case
studies.
3 units; Pre-requisite: 3rd year standing
D. PROFESSIONAL COURSES
ES 5B - Engineering Materials & Testing
Properties of engineering materials including mechanical, acoustical, electrical, magnetic,
chemical, optical and thermal properties. testing equipment, tension, compression, bending, shear,
impact test.
3 units; Pre-requisite: ES 4B
ES 7 - Thermodynamics 2
Thermodynamics laws governing vapors, vapor processes and vapor power cycles;
introduction to the elements of a steam power plant.
3 units; Pre-requisite: ES 6
ES 10 - Production & Operation Management
Involves managements knowledge of the operations of the enterprise and in production
areas in industry of its weakness and vulnerability, of its strength and opportunities essential to
successful leadership.
3 units; Pre-requisite: ES 9
EE 321B - EE Circuits 2 w/ Computer Application
Impedance methods, frequency response, three phase 2-port circuits.
3 units; Pre-requisite: EE 311B
EE 419 - AC & DC Machinery
Performance characteristics and operation of DC and AC machines. Losses and
efficiencies. Alternator, induction/synchronous motors, synchronous converter and transformers.
3 units; Pre-requisite: EE 321B
GE 221 - Environmental Science
Sources of water pollution, treatment of water for control of pathogens and toxic
contaminants, treatment of sewage. BOD testing and treatment of industrial effluents , analytical
methods in pollution testing and control, particular control in atmospheric discharges, testing, and
control of toxic gases, smoke stacks.
2 units; Pre-requisite: Chem. 1A (lec/lab)
GE 510 - Seminar & Inspection Trips
Study of industrial plants by making trips to local power and industrial plants.
1 unit; Pre-requisite: 5th yr. standing
