Description: The planned clinical instruction program (PCIP) provides a comprehensive attention to the related learning experience of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Level III students on the concepts of:
Mental Health and Mental Illness
Collaborative Process of the Mental Health Team
Theories of Human Behavior

Therapeutic Milieu
The Nurse-Client Relationship

Psychopharmacology
Therapeutic Communication

Psychotherapeutic Interventions
Mental Status Examination

Nursing Process: Context in Psychiatric Nursing


Psychosocial Assessment
General Objective: Through the related learning experience at National Center for Mental Health, the BSN III students will be equipped with
the fundamental knowledge, skills, and attitude in the care of patients with maladaptive patterns of behavior.

Specific Objectives: At the end of the 80-hour rotation and given clients with maladaptive patterns of behavior, the student will be able to:

Be acquainted with the structure, personnel, policies and procedures of the institution through establishing an orientation to the clinical unit.
Observe daily morning routines
Establish rapport and professional working relationship with the client and their family, the staff and administrators.
Utilize the nursing process in the context of psychiatric nursing, mindful of the concepts of:
- Mental Health and Mental Illness
- Theories of Human Behavior
5. Apply therapeutic communication techniques effectively to the clients within the duration of the nurse-client relationship.
6. Assess the client accurately using process recording, mental status examination and psychosocial assessment guides.
7. Provide basic nursing care procedures, such as:

-Hygienic measures

-Vital signs taking


8. Provide different psychotherapeutic interventions.
9. Observe Electro Convulsive Therapy (ECT) procedure.
10. Observe provision of care to patients with different mental disorders in other pavilions.
11. Appreciate the roles and responsibilities of a psychiatric nurse in the provision of care to clients and as a member of the mental health team.
