The Weberian dictionary defines Compassion as a feeling of distress and pity for the suffering

or misfortune of another, often including the desire to alleviate it.

Moreover, the Wikipedia states Compassion as an emotion that one feels in the response of the
suffering of others that motivates the desire to help.
For me, it is just the tip of the iceberg and compassion means lot more than that. The meaning of
the words extends from the core principle of compassion ,and should be more than thoughts,
feelings, prayers and meditation and being kind to people we meet [1].
It is an ethic that should be extended to our ordinary every day habits how we use energy,
transport, food, and clothing and so on [1].
Issues of universal responsibility such as environment requires action in everyday lifer not only at
the level of an organization but also it extends to the level of an individual.
The term used for such practice is eco-ethics [1].
The West is facing the problem of consumerism which implies to over acquisition of goods and
services .An ideology leading to Tragedy of Commons .However, this practice is not restricted to the
West with rise of economies in the east .Similar ideology is witnessed .
What is the result of this: The Rise in emission of Co2? With rise in the emission of the gas .Global
warming will lead to rise in the sea level up to a 1m by 2100. For many living in the High terrain this
would be just a number to remember .However, for the people living less that meter high. The
threat is faced by the smaller island like Papua New Guinea, Maldives to lose forever their culture,
their land, their history.
Many top countries deny brusquely from reducing their emission .However, as an individual we can
do that. For me day of Compassion would be try to cut the Carbon emission as much as possible.
That connotes to the Reducing the usage of personal transport .Buying locally grown vegetable
rather the one imported from the other countries.
Day-1
For me, the day of compassion began with usage of public transport. Rather than using my own car
.Then drinking tea rather than coffee. People may ask why? The answer to it is. The tea requires
1/10th of water to coffee for production .Moreover, the clearance of land in the countries Latin
America for the production of coffee leading unsustainable usage of the land .And asking people to
do so.
With regards to my experience .I would say the people were bit reluctant to give up their practices at
the expense of luxury .However, they were quite happy to take tea instead a coffee. I would
travelling by bus more time consuming and tiring as well. However, I believe I could bring some
change.
Day-2
On the day 2, I took the assignment of acting compassionately to my cohorts. While at work, we
regularly come across the backlogs .Due to someone getting ill. Most of the people are reluctant to
work extra hours and this adds to frustration of the manager and to fallout between person and the
manager. I requested the manager to hand over any backlogs for the day, due to absence of one our
cohort. As, next day we have to deliver the final product.
This could have resulted in something bad .This was completely unplanned .I have just finished the
work of my cohort. And have received a phone call with words full of gratitude. I feel tired but happy

and surprised that I could actually be a day saver for somebody .It has boosted my confidence and
has given me a sense of relating to others.
Conclusion
I would like to conclude from the two days of compassionate life. That it has given me so much as
person. That I would like to take this forward in my life
