IntroductiontoGeneralHeatConductionEquation
Frequentlyweconsideredonedimensionalheatconductionandassumedheatconduction
inotherdirectionstobenegligible.Mostheattransferproblemsencounteredinpracticecan
beapproximatedasbeingonedimensional,andwewillmostlydealwithsuchproblemsin
thistext.
However,thisisnotalwaysthecase,andsometimesweneedtoconsiderheattransferin
otherdirectionsaswell.Insuchcasesheatconductionissaidtobemultidimensional,and
in this section we will develop the governing differential equation in such systems in
rectangular,cylindrical,andsphericalcoordinatesystems.
