ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS

Digital circuits
(involves quantities
with discrete values )

21

Analog circuits
(involves quantities
with continuous
values)

Muhammad Usman Arif

8/26/2015

ANALOG
Being continuous or having continuous values.
Opposite to having a set of discrete values.
Can be represented by a continuous graph.
Most quantities in nature are analog

quantities.

DIGITAL
Related to digits(1 or 0) or discrete quantities.
Opposite to having continuous values.
Can be represented by a set of digits(1 or 0) OR by

digital waveform .
We can convert an analog quantity into a digital
quantity by using analog to digital converter.

The Digital advantage!

Digital data can be processed and transmitted more

efficiently and reliably than analog data.

Digital data can be stored more compactly and
reproduced with greater accuracy and clarity then is
possibly when it is in analog form.
Noise (unwanted voltage fluctuation) has less effect
on digital data than analog data.
Digital techniques and systems have the advantages
of being relatively much easier to design and are
lighter than their analog counterparts.
