TheWETCcomprisestwocourses:StageOneandStageTwo.Thefirststagefocusesonwellsite
operationsanddevelopingwellsitepositions.Incombinationwithrelevantfieldexperience,this
training will provide candidates with an excellent basis for the position of Well Site Drilling
Engineer.Stage2focusesforagreaterdegreeonwellprogrammingandplanning.Incombination
with field and office work this part will provide a solid basis for the position of Senior Well
Engineer.

TheWellEngineeringTrainingCourseissetupasaselfstudycoursewithlimitedinstructiontime.
Asignificantamountofmaterialiscoveredinthetraining.ThedurationofStageandTwooneis
oneyeareach.Duetothelengthyprocessandvolumeofwork,dedicationandfocusisrequired
from the participant as well as employer to successfully complete the program. In order to
evaluate if candidates poses a required minimum level of competence and to maximise training
efficiency,anassessmentisperformedatthestart.

CourseStructure
Both Stages start off with an introductory training session of one week in which the course
objectives and structure are laid out and the first topics are discussed. Following this session
participants continue to study the training material by themselves, guided by the instructor as
coach in online sessions. Test questions are provided and answers need to be submitted by
participants on a regular basis. The handin will be followedup by an online meeting with the
instructorasanopportunityforthetraineestoaskquestionsandfortheinstructortogetanidea
abouthowwellthecourseisbeingfollowed.

As a platform for the online meetings we use GoToMeeting from Citrix (for more information
see http://www.gotomeeting.com). This software has been proven to work well, also in The
Sultanate Oman, and besides speech also a desktop and webcam can be shared, allowing to
effectivelydiscussdocumentsorimages.ThecostofGoToMeetingisincludedwiththetraining
packages.

Once per quarter a classroom coaching session is organised that covers the training of the past
threemonths,onhighlevelwherepossibleandindetailwhererequired.Duetothesmallclasses
thesesessionsareideallysuitedforinteractiveandtailoredinstruction.Duringthesesessionsthe
course instructor evaluates if the course participants are up to the required level and whether
furthertutoringisrequired.Thehighfrequencyofthesessionsstimulatescandidatestostayon
theballwithselfstudying.
As an option an EnglishArabic translator with relevant technical experience can be provided
duringtheinstructionsessions.

Intensivepersonaltraining
Additional intensive tutoring can be beneficial for fast track participants who need additional
coaching,orforparticipantsforwhomspecificstudyareasrequireextraattention.Alsoadditional
topics may be covered through such training, for instance handson training of Landmark well
designsoftware.Thisadditionaltutoringwillbequotedonrequest.
Evaluation&Certification
Uponcompletingtheselfstudycoursestheparticipantisevaluatedwithanexam.Duringthelast
classroom training session attention is given to the preparation for the exam with mock exam
questions.
AfterpassingtheexamthetraineeisawardedwithaWellEngineeringCertificateforStageOneor
Two.

TrainingMaterial
WEP will provide a training manual in printed and digital format at the start of the intensive
training. The manual comprises the volumes Core Knowledge and Well Engineering Knowledge.
Foranoverviewofthecontentsseethefollowingtable.Notethatthevolumesarenotbasedon
the distinction between Stage 1 and Stage 2, but for each Stage selected sections from the
volumesareused.
