studying music theory, voice technique, or sight singing.

Course Goals and Objectives

This class is designed to meet the specific Core Curriculum standards set by the
Utah State Office of Education: www.usoe.k12.ut.us. The Core Curriculum
standards are to perform, create, listen/analyze/evaluate, and discover meaning.
Students will learn proper performance techniques, audience etiquette, basic musical
theory, basic sight singing, listening skills, and analytical skills.

Each student will need a folder in which to keep assignments and vocabulary sheets.
Students will be expected to take good care of classroom music and will need to
replace any that is damaged or lost.
Students must have at least one sharpened pencil in their folders at all times! Pen
may be used for most written assignments, but pencil must be used to mark music.

absent will be due the day the student returns. Late work will be accepted with a
penalty. Late work will be worth 80% the first week and 50% after that. Long-term
absences will be dealt with on an individual basis.
Concerts are mandatory! They are counted as a final exam each term. The
concerts teach students performance skills that cannot be learned in any other wayplus they are a lot of fun! The students will perform at night and also during the day
