This week our folks serving 40

Days for Life had the blessing of
encouraging a young girl at
Planned Parenthood and giving
her a Gospel of John. In another
instance our folks got to pray for
a woman who was experiencing
back and leg pain.

I believe that as Christians we have an obligation, no

friends we have an imperative call, to pray right now,
and for the next 28 days into the election.
,
No candidate or leader apart from Jesus Christ will
ever meet the moral and ethical standards of the
Bible, so we must pray for the leading of the Spirit.
Every candidate is deeply flawed, just as we are
(Romans 3:23), so we pray for the intervention of the
Spirit.
We dont stop, get still, and pray because we are
undecided and unable to act, but because we believe
that God is at work and we want to act as His
messengers.
We can't lose focus that Christ is coming and on that
day it won't matter who won in 2016, but who was
won to Christ for eternity. Pick up a copy of the
election prayer guide and join me in praying for our
leaders AND our neighbors.

In the first few weeks of Awana Cubbies we

teach the kids a core truth in a powerful way:
Sin is anything that we THINK (point to your
head), SAY (point to your mouth), or DO (hit
your fist into your hand) that disobeys God!
So often we judge sin by actions alone, but we
would be shortsighted to not consider that
sinful actions come from sinful hearts. Genesis
6:5 tells us The Lord saw that the wickedness
of man was great in the earth, and that every
intention of the thoughts of his heart was only
evil continually.
What is interesting is that Genesis 6 doesnt
detail for us the actions of men, but by the
nature of their thought and heart life we know
what their lives were like, wicked.
One of the great problems that plagued Israel
in the Old Testament was their unwillingness to
see sin and address it, and in every measure it
led to their fall.
Jesus said: For from within, out of the heart of
man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality,
theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness,
deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride,
foolishness. All these evil things come from
within, and they defile a person.
Matthew 7:20-23

A recent study by psychologists in a leading

Christian counseling journal suggests that we
only act upon 20-25% of the thoughts we
actually entertain. That means what we see is
but a small part of the wickedness of the heart
and mind. For Christians that ought to give
great weight to how we consider the sinful
actions of people. What do their actions say
about their thought and heart life? As an
anonymous author so eloquently stated, The
well is always deeper than the spring.
The Bible says our thoughts are to be held
captive by Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5), having
the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:6), bearing
a responsibility to yield to the Spirits leading
(Ephesians 4:30), allowing the Spirit to
transform and renew our minds (Romans
12:1-2) that we might walk in the Spirit
(Romans 8:4).
We as Christians must hold ourselves and the
culture at-large to a higher standard, not
because we view ourselves as more righteous,
but because just as the serpent was lifted up in
the desert (Numbers 21:4-9, John 3:14-15) we
must lift the sinfulness of the world to the
righteousness of Christ.

Mens Coffee
This Saturday
7:00 to 8:30am

This study also takes place on Sundays at 9:30am

Join us as we
gather together
and discuss the
Book of James.

No matter how deeply bound we are to any

given stronghold, through Jesus Christ were
able to overcome it. Christ is mightier than the
most stubborn heart and the greatest lie of
Satan. On the cross Jesus showed us that He
is mighty enough to redirect our sin-rich hearts
heavenward so that we can get back on the
track of spiritual growth.
Join the ladies on one of two nights to learn
how we tear down strongholds and strengthen
ourselves in Christs promises.
