Introduction:
TheWorldHealthOrganization(WHO)andFoodandAgricultureOrganizationofthe
UnitedNations(FAO)recognizedlowfruitsandvegetableintakeasakeyriskfactorfor
severalnoncommunicablediseases,thereforerecommendaminimumdailydietaryintakeof
146kgFruitsandVegetables(MinerandKehane,2008).
Fruitsareconsumedinmanyformseitherasfreshfruit,inprocessedformsofjam,
jellies(usedtogarnishsnacks)andjuices(asdrinks).FruitshereinPhilippinesarebeing
facedwithvery fierce competition whichis harbored bytradeliberalization.Developing
countriesthatwerehithertolimitedinchoicesofgoodsandservicesarenowfloodedwithan
array of imported and local products, thereby giving the consumer vast options among
varieties(Udinetal.,2008).
InPhilippines,importedfruitproductsconsumptionisviewedas astatuspointer;
hence the native seems to have develop a great penchant forimported products. This is
evidentinthequantityofimportbothofmaterialsandfooditemsintothecountry.
StatementoftheProblem:
1.WhataretheimportedandlocalfruitssoldinDonDomingoMarket?
2.WhatimportedandlocalfruitsaresalableinDonDomingoMarket?
3.Whatistheperceptionofthecustomers/buyers/usersonthesefruits?
Hypothesis:
1.Theperceptionofthecustomers/buyers/usersaffectsthemarketabilityofthe
importedandlocalfruits.
2.Theimportedfruitsaremoresalablethanthelocalfruits.
SignificanceoftheStudy:
Theresult ofthis studywill benefitthe producers ofthelocal fruitproducts and
importersofdifferentfruitproducts.Localproducersandimporterswillbeabletoknow
whataretheygoingtoimportandproducemore.Also,theresultofthisstudywilldirectthe
Philippinegovernmentsonpolicyandcampaignstrategyforconsuminglocalproductswhich
aimstohelptheeconomyandboostmarketabilityoflocalproductsandsocioeconomicwell
beingoflocalproducers.
ScopeandDelimitations:
Thestudyislimitedonlyinthecomparisonofthemarketabilityoftheimportedand
local fruits. It focuses on the different perceptions of the consumers/buyers/users on the
importedandlocalfruits.
