Introduction
A. Charades
1. Have students think of a word and act it out.
B. Transition
1. What did you see? What were your friends doing?
2. Would this game be easier if you knew what your friends were thinking?
3. Are we able to read each others minds?
Lesson: Psalm 139
A. 139:1-4
1. While reading through, have the students do the actions David describes
(e.g. sitting down, getting up, lying down). Emphasize the things that we
can see versus the things only God knows (e.g. knowing our thoughts,
knowing everything we do).
2. Are you able to know what someone else is thinking? Why not?
3. What are we able to see? W
hat does more does

God see?
B. 139:11-14
1. Have students close their eyes. Ask them what its like (what he can see,
whether its dark or light, etc.).
a) Were they able to hide from us?
2. What kind of darkness might be see today?
3. When might be some times we want to hide from other people? From
God?
4. Have you ever tried to hide because you did something wrong? Why?
5. Make it clear that we can try to hide from people, but we cannot hide from
God.
6. We also shouldnt even want to hide from God because He made us,
knows us, and loves us. So We can tell God anything!
C. 139:23
1. Turn to Job as an example of us being honest with God about how we
feel and what we are worried about.
2. David wants to talk to God like he talks to a really close friend.
Lesson: Job 7:11
A. Job 7:11
1. A really good friend is someone you can talk to about anything, and they
will listen.
2. That means that whether were happy or sad, afraid or worried, angry or
hurting, we can always tell God about it.
Hebrews 4:16
A. We can be sure that Jesus is a good friend because He knows what its like to
feel and experience all of these things.
B. Because He knows, we dont have to be afraid to tell God anything. Through
Jesus, we can pray freely to God and be totally honest about how we feel, and
also know that God will help us when we need it.

We can tell God anything.

Psalm 139
O LORD, you have searched me and known me!
2
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
3
You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
4
Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O LORD, you know it altogether.
11

If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me,

and the light about me be night,

even the darkness is not dark to you;
the night is bright as the day,
for darkness is as light with you.
13
For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother's womb.
14
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.[a]
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
12

23

Search me, O God, and know my heart!

Try me and know my thoughts!

Job 7:11
11

I cannot keep from speaking.

I must express my anguish.

My bitter soul must complain.
Hebrews 4:16
16
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and
we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
