Procedures + Before each product is painted, itis prepared by passing it through seven-stage metal pretreatment machine that cleans and forms a coat of zine phosphate on the metal. This process consists of the following stages: 2) two stages of alkaline cleaning b) two stages of fresh water rinsing ©) caystalline zine phosphate coating 4) fresh water rinse ©) final seal rinse Fach closely monitored stage is tested hourly, ensuring compliance with the supplier's specifications; this provides optimum perfor- mance. santa Guinot S098, ‘+ The pretreatment process is followed by a dry-off stage that dehydrates the zinc phosphate and sets it for maximum protection. This results in a surface that is in optimal condition for receiving the protective paint finish. ‘+ The protective paint finish, TGIC (triglycidyl isocyanurate) Polyester Powder, is electrostatically applied and then thermally set toa hard, durable coating. This is the same durable finish found on architec- tural products, automotive and ‘marine parts, farm and garden implements, playground equip- ment, fencing, and guardrails. TGIC powder provides a decora- tive finish with excellent ‘mechanical and exterior exposure qualities. ‘Smyrna power paint line in action using polyester TGIC resins offer excellent mechanical properties, corrosion protection, and edge coverage. In addition, they are specifically known for excellent outdoor durability. Protective Paint Finish Properties And Specifications ‘+ Material: TGIC Polyester Powder “The powder paint used at Square D’s Smyrna plant demonstrates all these desirable characteristics. It has exceeded expectations in every test of its properties. Powder paints generally outper- form other paint technologies. They are tougher, last longer, and. are more resistant to abrasion and impact damage. Powder paints are also one of the most environmentally-friendly paints in use, emitting virtually no VOCs (volatile onganic com- pounds), Coatings formulated SQUARE D GROUPE SCHNEIDER Paint Finish Process Description For Medium Voltage Switchgear ‘+ The following table compares typical properties of thermosetting powder coatings. Paint adhesion is considered acceptable upon passing of the method B cross-cut tape test, evel 5B (no loss of adhesion). ~ Gloss —Nominal specular gloss value is 55-65 © 60 degrees, pet ASTM D-523. = Impact—No cracking or chipping of paint film upon impact of 160 in-Ib (96.4 mekg) per ASTM D-2794. = Salt Spray Resistance—Painted test panels will withstand a 2,500-hour 5% salt spray test, per ASTM B-117. Film thickness applied is approximately 0.5— 0.75 mils. The interior remains the standard product color. This overspray process is used when ANSI 49 medium light gray is required to match other Square D equipment and also, at extra cost, for ANSI 61 and 70 when optional higher than standard film thickness is required. Other colors are considered special and are available at extra cost. A color chip must be provided with order entry to assist in the proper mixing of the color. Because color and gloss vary depending on paint type and application method, Square D Smyrna can not be responsible for such variations when matching the color of existing ‘equipment or equipment from other plants and vendors. ‘sauna [Be Rage Tas of Sune 0 Compa 2 1884 SaareOcereary_ Mais Rear SQUARE D er Ne O4OOHBOY Aus 194 7M OL BEA GROUPE SCHNEIDER
