1.

1 =Background of study
Every student have their own goals to achieve in their life especially in studying as
well as they study hard to get a better result in their examination. Also, every student have
their own study skills. It is proved when they use their own techniques to master in their
studies. They have various of study techniques to remember what they learn in the class.
So, this study was conducted in UiTM Kota Samarahan Campus 2 which is focused
on BM232 students only. We focused on BM232 students because it will make easier for
us to distribute the questionnaire since we are at the same place of study. Hence, we could
also know what is the studying technique that has been used by the students in mastering
their studies.

1.2 Statement of the problem


According to (Dunlosky, 2013) in his article Strengthening the Student Toolbox, he
stated that many students rely on strategies rereading, highlighting and cramming the
night before exam. Quite often, students believe these ineffective strategies are actually
the most effective and at least on the surface they do seem sound perhaps because even
after pulling all-nighter, students manage to squeak by on exams. By doing this research,
we can know the students problem in their studies whether it is the problem at the
campus or how their studying skills. This is because majority of the students do not know
the effective ways to study. It is proven when most of them more to study hard than study
smart.
Other than that, the wrong studying techniques will lead to students CGPA decrease from
the previous semester. So, research is needed to explore the studying skills among BM232
students.
This research is also relevant to students where they can know the best techniques that
majority of the students used in their studying skills. We can also develop our own
personal approach to study. Besides, it will increase our awareness of how our study can
become more confident in order to increase the examination result for every semester.

1.3 Purpose of the study


The purpose of the study is to find out the different types of study techniques applied
by BM232 student. It is because every student applying different techniques in their study.
There are several skills and techniques of the study such as studying by understanding,
memorizing, and study group. Basically, this phenomenon is normal towards human being
because we possess different level of intelligent quotient (IQ). Therefore, the way we think
and we sense must be different from others.
1.4 Objectives of the study
1. To find out what are the techniques that student used in their daily study routine
2. To determine the best tecniques tTo identify the most techniques that student used.
1.5 Research Questions
1. What are the techniques used by students in their daily studying routine?
2. What the most techniques that student used?

1.7 Scope of study


Like the other studies, this particular study has its own scope. First of all, the study was
carried out in the UITM Campus 2 in Kota Samarahan. Thus, the result might only get from
BM232 students based on their perception for each items on questionnaire. The respondents
of the study are BM232 students which are .. This study starts from week 1 until week
6 ,so the duration is 6 weeks.

2.0 Literature Review


2.1 Definition of Topic
This study is to find out the studying techniques among UiTM student in Campus 2,
Samarahan. There are various techniques might use by the student. Thus, in this study it is
focuses on study by understanding, momorizing and group discussion.

Types of Techniques

1.

Understanding

According to (Strauss, 2013) most of the students report are highlighting and underlining
textbooks and other materials, rereading, and summarization. These techniques were rated as
low utility because these techniques do not consistently boost students performance.

Memorizing

Memorization defined as learning an isolated fact through deliberate effort. It exercises the
brain and even fuels deep insights (ORLIN, 2013).

Group Discussion

People are reluctant to form study groups and rather self-study. This is, when you are
studying in a group there is a higher chance that most of the things you are uncertain about
will pop out. Next, it is often quite hard to understand every detail of the lecture when doing

self-study. The best way to really learn and understand something is through explaining it to
others (BURDEA, 2013).
