Design and Manufacture
A wide variety of aerial optical cables is offered by
nkt cables to provide most economic as well as highly
customised solutions. Supported cables types are:

Stainless steel tube

with integrated optical fibres

Optical Ground Wire (OPGW)

Aluminium-clad steel
or galvanised steel strands

Optical Phase Conductor (OPPC)

Metallic Aerial Self-supported Cable (MASS)

Aluminium or
Aluminium-alloy strands

Stranded Tube Design and Central Tube Designs

nkt cables OPGW/OPPC designs are based on highly
reliable and robust stainless steel tube technology. The
stainless steel tube is either stranded in the first layer of
OPGW/OPPC (Stranded Tube Design) or placed in the
core of cable (Central Tube Design).

Stranded Tube OPGW Design

Materials
OPGW/OPPC of nkt cables are made of materials defined
in international standards:

VALCAP Grid Monitoring

for Overhead Lines
Today ampacity of your grid is restricted by thermal limits
based on fixed and standardised parameters with high
safety margins. It is not possible to control grids dynamically and in real time.
With VALCAP you can maximise the efficiency of your
existing grid: continuous temperature monitoring and
evaluation of the actual environment conditions along overhead lines and power cables allow you to decide precisely
how much load your grid can transport safely.
Our VALCAP system will even do more for you: with its
intelligent software companion ADAPPRO you get information of expected future loads, for every day and every
hour. So you can pro-actively manage the energy load
transmission of your grid. It can be used on existing lines
as well as for solutions based on phase conductors with
integrated optical fibres OPPC.
For more information please request the brochure
VALCAP Grid Monitoring and Rating.

field of construction of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) and
Optical Phase Conductor (OPPC) including their necessary
accessories has made nkt cables a high-tech partner for
the installation of telecommunication network systems for
electricity grid operators.
As a further development to our well-known Metal Hood
Joint Type 180, we successfully launched our Universal
Metal Hood Joint VALCONNECT 180 for OPGW
beginning of 2009. This new hood joint type is easily to
install and reduce additionally the assembly time.
