Codes and Standards Training Institute (CASTI) is recognized as an approved educational institute for providing the required knowledge for qualification of
WeldingEngineersunderCSAW47.1clause6.4.3.
Companies applying for certification in Division 1 or 2 of CSA W47.1 Certification of Companies for Fusion Welding of Steel must designate and qualify a
WeldingEngineerwhoisresponsibleforweldingrelatedactivitiesasspecifiedbythecompany.

QualificationsoftheWeldingEngineer
TobecomeaCSAW47.1WeldingEngineer,thecandidatemustmeetallqualificationsunderCSAW47.1Clause6.4:
6.4.1ProfessionalEngineer
TheweldingengineershallbealicensedorregisteredprofessionalengineerinaCanadianprovincialorterritorialassociationorcorporationofengineers.When
thecompanyseekingcertificationislocatedinacountryotherthanCanada,theweldingengineershalldemonstratecomparablequalifications.
6.4.2Experience
The welding engineer employed or retained shall have a minimum of five years of weldingrelated experience in a company or companies producing steel
weldments(carbonand/orstainlesssteel).
6.4.3Knowledge
Eachweldingengineershalldemonstrateknowledgeofthefundamentalpropertiesofsteel,weldingfundamentals,weldingmetallurgy,weldingproceduresand
practice,andweldingcodesandstandards.
TheaboveknowledgemaybedemonstratedbycompletingbothCASTIcourseslistedbelowandreceiveaminimummarkof70%oneachfinalexam.These
coursesareapprovedbytheCanadianWeldingBureautosatisfytheknowledgerequirementsofaCSAW47.1WeldingEngineer.
1.CASTIsWeldingFundamentalscourse,and
2.CASTIsASMESectionIXWeldingCodesandMetallurgyforCarbon/AlloySteelscourse

DIVISIONSOFCERTIFICATION
Division1
To be certified in Division 1, the company must employ on a fulltime basis a registered professional engineer(s) responsible for welding related activities
specifiedbythecompany.
Division2
To be certified in Division 2, the company must retain on a parttime basis a registered professional engineer(s) responsible for welding related activities
specifiedbythecompany.
