INTRODUCTION

Assessment is an important component in the learning process and

promotes learning by motivating students to improve their performance
and academic achievement. Through assessment, a teacher is able to
know the performance of students in the test and could compare the
performance of the students in different tests. Knowing the performance
of the students and the level of difficulty of the test can help a teacher to
plan his teaching strategy to improve the students performance. The level
of difficulty of the test can also be adjusted according to the ability of the
students. The mean marks and the standard deviation are usually used to
show the performance of the students and level of difficulty of the
test.Besides, composite index can also be used to show the students
performance and the level of difficulty of the test.

Aim
The aim of this project is to apply the concept of statistics in knowing the students
performance in a test and the difficulty level of the test.

Objectives
a) Calculate the mean and standard deviation of the mark of the students.
b) Calculate the composite index of the marks.
c) Use the mean mark, standard deviation and composite index to compare the
students performance and the difficulty level of different tests.

DEFINITION OF MEAN
The "mean" is the "average" you're used to, where you add up all the
numbers and then divide by the number of numbers.
DEFINITION OF STANDARD DEVIATION
A quantity calculated to indicate the extent of deviation for a group as a
whole.
DEFINITION OF COMPOSITE INDEX
A composite index is a grouping of equities, indexes or other factors
combined in a standardized way, providing a useful statistical measure
of overall market or sector performance over time.

First and foremost, I would like to thank my Additional

Mathematics teacher , Rohaida binti Abdul Ghani as she gives

me important guidance and commitment during this project

work.
I also would like to thank all my friends for helping me
and always supporting me to help complete this project work.
They have done a great job at collecting form 4 result for and
sharing information with other people including me. Without
them this project would never have had its conclusion.
For their strong support, I would like to express my
gratitude to my beloved parents. Last but not least, i would also
like to thank all the teacher and my friend for helping me
collect the much needed data and statistics for this. Not
forgetting too all the other people who were involved directly or
indirectly towards making this project a reality. I thank you all .

Questions in Mid Year Examination

are more difficult compare to questions in
Final Year Examination

I have learnt the application of statistic

while doing this project. I also able to recall
the formulae and manage to apply it in the
questions .Moreover, I also practice some
moral values while doing this project such as
time management. I was able to manage my
time and complete this project before the
death line.
