Mile High Amazing Race Rules

The Mile High Amazing Race is a test of strategy, challenge and thinking outside of the box. Some
challenges or detours are ambiguous; as a result, they are left open for interpretation.

There are 7 checkpoints located in seven different locations. Teams must decode the clues to reveal
their next checkpoint. The initial checkpoint clue is included in each team’s clue bag. Teams must
follow the order of the checkpoints to reach the Finish Line. When your team arrives at a checkpoint, a
race host will give instructions for the quest to be completed. Make sure your race host records your
score on your score sheet before you leave that checkpoint.

All team members must participate at each checkpoint and follow the instructions given to receive full
points. Upon completion of the checkpoint challenges, our Patient Heroes (those battling a blood
cancer or those who are in remission from a blood cancer) will give you a clue to your next
checkpoint. Be sure to get to know the Patient Heroes! Hint! Hint!

Detours are optional challenges that allow for additional points. The optional detours are part of your
score sheet and detour questions will be located in each clue bag. These are random optional
challenges that can be completed along the course. (If your team chooses not to participate in many of
these detours, you will have a hard time winning the race!) Detours will be scored throughout the
course at each checkpoint to expedite the scoring process at the Finish Line.

The team that finishes first is not necessarily the winner. It is the team with the most points.
Each Checkpoint Challenge and Detour is an opportunity to earn points. Remember, this is a game of
strategy. Your team must decide together, which of the detours they would like to participate in, while
trying to finish in the quickest time. The first team who completes all six checkpoints and returns to
the Finish Line is rewarded 45 points, the second place team earns 35 points and the third place team
earns 25 points.
Each team has a score sheet in their clue bag. KEEP TRACK OF THIS, AS IT IS THE ONLY MEANS TO
DOCUMENT THE POINTS YOUR TEAM HAS EARNED ALONG THE COURSE. At each checkpoint, scores
will be marked for that checkpoint challenge and detour questions that have been answered at that
point will be tallied. This will help expedite the scoring process at the end of the race. All detours, trivia
and challenges must be completed before going to station #7. Anything not done when you get to
Station #7 will not be included in the score total.

How do you win? After successfully completing all required checkpoint challenges, adding up all of your
team scores and detour points, your team will be matched against the other teams for a final point
count. The team with the most points wins! There are prize packages for the top three teams!

Please be safe out on the course. This is not a closed course. Adherence to all city, state and federal
laws is mandatory! Teams that are found to be breaking any laws are immediately DISQUALIFIED.
Unmarked Marshals are posted along the course to observe team behavior during the event. Please
remember that we are conducting this event to help all of those patients, families, friends, etc. that are
battling a blood cancer. Please respect the checkpoint businesses who are allowing us to use their
facilities as well as other local businesses as it is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society that you will be
representing.

Acquisition of items: All items at the checkpoint challenges and detours can be obtained and
performed legally. It may involve smooth talking, or something else, but it is all possible. The judges,
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Fun Productions take no responsibility of any team ending their
race in the Denver Jail. (This is not an authorized checkpoint!)

Fair Play: Sabotage is bad karma. Sabotaging other teams can lead to an immediate disqualification.

Organized Chaos: Much of the “race” is just that. Once teams get past the first checkpoint, they will
generally find a rhythm that works for them. Race hosts have limited information, but they can answer
most basic checkpoint questions.

Points: Point totals are final. Judges give out points in the spirit of the items presented. Since many of
the clues are ambiguous, items may be interpreted differently, the judges make the final determination
of the points awarded. The points system has changed from last year. The points will not be in the
thousands so please don’t be alarmed if it appears that your score is lower than last year.

On behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society , our patients and Fun Productions, thank you for your
much needed support. Be sure to check out the attached biography on one of Mile High Amazing Race
Patient Heroes. With your help, we WILL find a cure for blood cancers. We hope you enjoy the race and
learn a little more about what you are made of by the end of the day.

Please forward this email on to your teammates in case their email was not given at the time of
registration.

Thank you and have a great time on Saturday at the Mile High Amazing Race!!!!
