Did You
Know?
Malaysia has an estimated
number of 30,000
accountancy professionals
of which 28% are registered
chartered accountants.
The country needs 60,000
accountants by 2020.

This industry is right

for you if

As Malaysia moves towards becoming a

high-income nation, more professional
accountants are required to drive the
countrys economic growth.
Driving demand for more new
accountants is the Tun Razak Exchange
(TRX), a 70-acre development in the
heart of Kuala Lumpur. This financial
district, Malaysias version of Wall
Street, is set to bolster Malaysias
economic landscape and it will bring
together local and overseas financial
institutions and other corporations in a
single area. RHB group as well as other
leading local banks have expressed
plans of setting up operations in TRX.

Nations Leading

Certified Accountants (ACCA), Certified
Practising Accountants (CPA), Institute
of Chartered Accountants in England

of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA)

Employment of personal financial

for financial planning services are
expected to increase.

Financial Officer

According to industry observers,

stockbroking is the fastest growing
occupation with strong income growth
potential in the next few years. While
these individual investors are still only
a small part of the total, the nationwide
interest in owning securities will greatly
increase the number of brokers and
investment advisers

Auditors can do the job of an accountant

but much of their core responsibility lies
in reviewing the work of accountants.
In a tough economy with a tight job
market, it is rare to find growth
industries as strong as the accounting
and auditing sector.

Every business that seeks to take

advantage of their full profitability
potential will need to hire financial
officers. Malaysias financial advisory
sector will see a leap in growth, with
the number of licensed professionals
advisors expected to double.

Actuary

Accountant

There are about 109 qualified actuaries registered as

fellows of the Actuarial Society of Malaysia, the only
representative body for the actuarial profession in
Malaysia. The numbers have been growing, and for the
past 3 to 4 years, about 10 actuaries become fellows each
year. However, only about 60% to 70% of these qualified
actuaries are practising in Malaysia.

The career prospects in the accountancy field remain buoyant

and may even increase over the next few years as Malaysia
navigates towards high-income nation status. By 2020, 60,000
finance talents are needed, according to industry forecasts.
Whether it is a small firm or a big conglomerate, more
chartered accountants are always required.

Financial Analyst
The growing number of investments and financial assets are
becoming increasingly complex. Hence, companies need
more financial analysts to advise on investment strategies.
However, there will still be considerable competition for jobs
since many people are drawn to this high-paying field.

GMI PRODUCES WORLD CLASS TECHNOLOGIST EQUIPPED WITH MODERN TECHNOLGY CENTRES

Popularly coined as GMI, German-Malaysian Institute was established in

July 1992 and is located in the picturesque suburb of Kajang. GMI
offers advanced German technology and skilled training under the
Department of Production Technology and Department Of Industrial
Electronics. It is also the only higher education institution in Malaysia
that has networking with more than 50 Universities of Applied Sciences
(UAS) in Germany.

Technology; Network Security; Sustainable Energy & Power Distribution;

Industrial Plant Maintenance; Facilities & Building Automation; Industrial
Communication System and Autotronics & Hybrid System, make almost
everything electronics-related possible.

GMI was established with the main objective of bringing German

technology and advancement closer to home. This was done to provide
advanced technical training for more Malaysians in related technology
fields which, in turn, will help accelerate the voyage into Vision 2020.

Over the past twenty years in existence, GMI has delivered over 6,000
highly-skilled graduates into the world of work. They assimilate steadily
into the workforce at various levels and in a wide range of industries.
Selected technical modules in the respective full-time programmes are
also offered to the work force in individual modules known as
short-term courses which range between two to four days, depending
on the course contents.

GMIs training philosophy, approach and equipment carry significant

German influences. All training at the institute upholds the
practice-based approach complemented by approximately 30-40%
theoretical input. This has proven to encourage trainees to be actively
involved in learning and stimulated to become life-long learners. GMI
prides herself in the emphasis placed on a hands-on approach for all
trainees full-time or short-term programmes. The 2:1 ratio of student
to training equipment optimizes equipment utilization.

For those who look forward to being in Germany for closer to the home
of the land of many opportunities, the pre-university programme is
designed specifically for it. The twenty months at GMI prepares
students with Cambridge A-Levels, the European Standard in German
Language up till B1 level and Vorpraktikum (practical experience). Upon
meeting all requirements, students fly to Germany to enroll in
engineering degree programmes at selected University of Applied
Sciences.

At GMI, it has always been more of knowing how as compared to

knowing why. The provision of a 16-week industrial placement in
Semester 5 means living up to the standards and demands of the
industries in the specialized fields. Many graduates are picked up for
employment upon completion of studies by the same industries which
had readily accepted them for in-plant placement. In their final
semester, with the first-hand experience and exposure to the real
challenges in the real world, GMI students return to campus for the
continuation of their studies. Here, they present a project proposal and
once approved, they start working on the project and present the
project to internal and external verifiers for assessment. Verifiers are
made up of academicians and industry representatives.

GMI offers diploma programmes in Industrial Electronics and Production

Technology fields as well as Pre-University Program (German A-Level
Preparatory Program or GAPP) for students who are keen to pursue
their Bachelor of Engineering in University of Applied Science in
Germany.

Seventeen technology sections (eight in Production Technology and

nine in Industrial Electronics, respectively) complement each other in
ensuring the smooth implementation of 17 Diploma programmes
offered to the public. At Production Technology, the sections which
scaffold the full-time programme training are Tool & Die Technology;
Mould Technology; CNC Precision Technology; Product Design and
Manufacturing; Sheet Metal Fabrication & Product Development;
Manufacturing System; Machine Tool Maintenance and Industrial
Design. At the Industrial Electronics Department, the Mechatronics;
Process Instrumentation and Control; Electronics and Information
